  1. What a great year to be a free agent....
  2. Hernandez is both a frustrating and intriguing case. He did make small steps to improve defensively. He just seems to lack focus at times. He's got tons of speed and a strong arm. I find the sunflower seeds throwing incredibly annoying,(I'm not sure why) but that doesn't help perception. He did have an incredibly strong second half at the plate. It's tough to bounce back after the abysmal first two months he had. I still have hopes to see a breakout offensively with the bat. It certainly couldn't hurt to try him at first, or just us him to DH a lot. I still think he can be a close to average defensive corner outfielder, but we have a surplus corner outfielders.
  3. I was thinking more of signing a player similar to max scherzer. I'm not sure your idea will help the Jays.
  4. I didn't even mean it as a slight to the people working in the Jays organization. Masai is one of the most charismatic GMs in professional sports.
  5. I'm just stating what's currently on the books for next year...Grichuk Gurriel and Tulo's 4 mil without any big arbitration numbers and bunch of league mins. I'm not saying they won't spend next year, I'm just saying there's a crap ton of room.
  6. I think aggressive in free agency, but 9 300 would scare the crap out of me.
  7. Literally every media article references the challenge of getting guys to come to the Jays. They certainly don't make it sound like the Jays are a top 10 destination. I'm sure for some of the more open minded players Toronto clearly is a top 10 destination. Really any big free agent they are in on should be flown in and taken to a Raptors game and have Masai take him out to dinner. Masai has more Charisma in his left pinky finger than anyone in the Jays organization.
  8. I believe in this core. Vlad, Bichette, Gurriel, biggio, Pearson. They are all here next year. I make fun of Grichuk, but I think he bounces back to be a 2 win player. The Rays, A's and Twins all made the playoffs without perfect lineups. Go get Ryu. There's a lot cheap high upside arms out there. Lindblom, Walker, Wood, Salazaar, Pineda. You could pick up two of those guys without breaking the bank. Eddie on a one year, Tsutsugo....you could get both without spending a fortune. They could acquire enough talent to have an outside shot this year, and if it doesn't work out sell at the deadline and the payroll commitments would not be long term so you wouldn't jeopardize your ability to sign free agents in the future. Who knows really. They may surprise us and spend some money and get some guys in here. There's still time, but patience isn't really my strong suit...lol
  9. I'm all for overpaying to get some guys in. 18 million next year without any major arbitration salaries. That's pathetic. Rogers needs to spend some dough.
  10. Fun Fact....We have 18 mil on the books for 2021 and 4 of that is Tulo...15 mil in 2022. Now that's hilarious.
  11. so Gerrit Cole 33.5 AAV...is it going to land over or under?
  12. At the very least we should be going after guys like Salazaar and Wood, but you need that second year option.
  13. so when are we going to be ready to compete? If we wait until next year when the market is weak you could overpay for crap.
  14. That would mean overpaying for a guy.
  15. We should go after Ryu now. Give him a 4th year and get it done.
  16. You're completely discounting Wheeler's development potential. 5 118 is a long ways from cheap, but I think he will earn every penny.
  17. yeah, but he didn't have 6 wins combined in the previous 3. Wheeler and Corbin were the same pitcher this year.
  18. I'm interested to hear the final terms on this one...well that dream is over.
  19. I'm shocked you're being critical of AA. They seemingly overpaid a couple guys, but there's no long term commitments there either and they got the pieces they wanted.
  20. The stats aren't that much better. Merrill is a number 5. If we sign Lindblom, we get another 5 hoping for he pitches like a number 3 or 4, but not something you can count on. We have a surplus of number 5 pitchers and the young guys have a better chance of upside surprise. We need to go get a number 2. We can sign Lindblom after we sign Ryu, bumgarner or Wheeler..or at the very least keuchel.
  21. I'm not against signing him, but he better not be the only starting pitcher we sign.
  22. man don't get my hopes up!
  23. I'd give him that too, even 6/120 and given where our payroll is right now, we could front load it to some degree to give us flexibility on the back side of the deal.
  24. I’ll play devils advocate. Wheeler throws 97 with good movement. He has above average spin rates and is amongst the league leaders in weak contact. Maybe surpressing home runs is less about luck and more about stuff. He has 750 innings under his belt. That is not a lot of innings. His walk rate is trending in the right direction. He certainly could still be developing from a pitching standpoint. He could take that next step and be a five or six win pitcher. If he is truly healthy now, maybe the lack of mileage on that arm is a good thing. His contract comes with a lot of risk in the 20 AAv level for 5 maybe 6 years, but if he turns into a 6 win pitcher whoever signs him will look like geniuses.
  25. clearly we didn't have this conversation last year..lol. I stand corrected. As long as we sever ties with Drury before the first day of the season, his salary is not guaranteed. There's still hope.
