  1. So here's the guy who didn't vote Jeter. Now that's a ballot! https://twitter.com/TerryGreenbeans/status/1219800579830112262/photo/1
  2. I could personally care less. Jeter was a hall of famer for sure. There were plenty of better players in the Hall who never got unanimous votes. It'a amazing how many writers voted Visquel and not Walker. Longevity clearly was important to these voters. Hall of fame weekend should be fun. Derek Jeter the first ballot no doubt Hall of Famer and Larry Walker who was clearly the more talented ball player who just couldn't stay healthy and just squeaked in.
  3. I doubt it ever will be released. Here's a ballot. The question is right at the bottom. https://twitter.com/markkiszla/status/1219775017547755521/photo/1
  4. nope...they actually ask the question of whether you want your ballot to be made public. I think about 25% of the ballots remain anonymous
  5. I'm guessing he put checked the don't make my ballot public box.
  6. man it's going to be close. He's got all 9 votes from first time voters. Of the handful of guys who aren't voting this year that voted last year, I'm guessing most didn't vote for Walker. I just hope in the end he gets in. I don't care if he gets exactly 75%.
  7. yeah, but you don't understand the game of football, so that factors in.
  8. I'd rather watch two sexy women playing at a sub par level than 2 elite men battling it out. That's the appeal of women's tennis and why they get paid so much!
  9. I don't know why they won't hesitate to move Biggio or Bichette, but they are steadfast that Vlad must play 3rd. Vlad was the worst defender in baseball. Our best defensive 3rd baseman is Shaw and our best defensive alignment is Vlad at first and Shaw at third.
  10. do you enjoy men's tennis?
  11. Panik is a nice pick up on a minor league deal. Now go get Salazar!
  12. I thought you guys were talking about a female getting a job as a coach. Why are you talking about a woman's ability to compete athletically with men? Men are clearly superior physically. Coaching is using your mental ability. Are you suggesting men are mentally superior?
  13. There could be a few teams scrambling for a manager on short notice. Maybe Gibby gets a shot at one of the jobs. Baseball really could use more John Gibbons quotes.
  14. I miss JD...I wish he would have signed in the National league. That twins lineup is scary.
  15. I would have loved to get Wood for 4 mil with incentives to make 10. He likely wanted to go back to LA though.
  16. You made the account. Prospects are cool, parades are cooler. I'm not the only one who feels this way. These are subjective matters. I'm fine with people have different opinions and discussing things. There isn't a right or wrong. You honestly think another pair of Drury and McKinney is going to help this team win. You don't need to reply. I fully recognize the trade could yield more, I'm just pointing out an example of how it's far from a slam dunk that trading Giles will yield anything. So there's no right or wrong. Get off your high horse.
  17. 1. You didn't need to create another account and pretend to be a first time poster. 2. I never said we need to extend Giles to get Betts. I said, the better the team is the more likely Betts is to sign. We have 2 above average pitchers. Ryu and Giles. I expect Pearson to be the 3rd, but what if he struggles out of the gate. That isn't going to make our position better come free agency. 3. I never said Giles would give the Jays a 20 to 30 percent home town discount. I acknowledged he had some arm issues last year and 2018 wasn't his best year. I said if we signed him today we could get him 30% cheaper than we would if he had another stellar largely injury free year. Yes, we bare risk, but we get the discount. If he pitches lights out his market value increases. His signing today doesn't mean he's giving us a home town discount, it's a mutual share of the risk. There have been reports in the media he likes it here and would be open to an extension. 4. The last time we had a similar pitcher on an expiring contract it was Happ who had put a 3.78 FIP through 114 innings. We got Drury and McKinney. You guys are convinced we're going to get a prospect that will definitely help our team in the future. We could get s***. 5. The history of getting free agents to come here is not great. That's just a fact. I was first in line to praise bringing in Ryu. I don't know how you prospect lovers expect the Jays to compete in 2021, or 2022 without a half way decent pitching staff. Who are the above average pitchers that will be on this team that will allow them to compete in 2021, 2022, 2023? I'm all ears. 6. I stand by my assertion that we should extend Giles. I can even acknowledge that I understand both sides of what people might want to do. I understand that it's a general rule that giving money to relievers is stupid. I don't believe Giles is in the category of your average every day reliever and there are plenty of great modern day GMs that have given big contracts to relievers. Yes, a Giles extension comes with risk, but a trade of Giles doesn't guarantee that the prospects coming back will ever add anything to the team. 7. I don't think assembling bo, vlad, jansen, biggio, bichette, pearson all coming up within a year of each other is easy to replicate. If you are talking about signing betts in 2021 the window starts in 2021. Grab a pair of balls and quit trading players that can help you win in your window.
  18. This team is still woefully short on pitching. We need a lot of upside surprises or we're going to have to get very active on the trade market or free agent market to get a staff that can compete. We do have a ton of financial flexibility and prospect capital so it's not out of the question, but it's a pretty big hill to climb.
  19. Yes, let's trade Giles for a guy who might provide 2 wins a season for 6 seasons in 2023 or 2024. Making a trade doesn't exist in a vacuum. If you waste all the excess value a young core like Vlad, Guerrero, Biggio, Pearson and Gurriel bring by never building a winner, you'll be talking about trading them for the next rebuild in 3 years when your prospect you've traded for hits the majors. It's not exactly easy to get a guy like Giles on the free agent market. There was only one comparable reliever to Giles available on this year's market and you have to compete with 29 other teams. I prefer Giles to Harris too, and I think the comp pick you give up to sign that elite reliever will be just as valuable as what you're going to get back for Giles in trade.
  20. It's just a matter of risk tolerance. You have risk tolerance for prospects all day long. I have no problem betting on proven major league players who are not old, but not exactly young and you have to outlay significant capital for these players. There are countless examples of success and failure on both sides. I'm extremely optimistic on the young core here now and I don't want to waste opportunities to win. I want to accelerate the process not make moves to delay it. I could be over estimating how good we are now. I realize I'm a fairly optimistic guy and willing to roll the dice.
  21. In what planet does not trading Giles make us better in the short term? You're listing prospects. The closer to the MLB they are the lower their ceiling. Luzardo great. Cherry pick trades, but you're talking a guy that's 3 plus years away. We traded Roy fricken Halladay in his prime and got what turned out to be nothing. Prospects are either gold or fools gold. You can go back to the top 50 lists from the last 10 years and you will see guys are all stars and guys who are busts. Even the most highly ranked prospects are far from a sure thing. You would have given your left nut to acquire Matt Moore when he was the number 1 ranked prospect in all of baseball and he's pitching in Japan now.
  22. I don's see how we could possibly be in any better position to make a historic offer. In 2022 our payroll commitments are Ryu for 20, Grichuk for just over 10 and Lourdes who is just under 5 and all the kids are still pre-arb except Vlad who's super 2.
  23. sure. I would love to use the Yankees playbook. I'm not sure we're quite as desirable as the Yankees. If we trade Giles, our odds of signing him are not great. I feel if we extend today we also save 20% to 30% because I believe Giles is going to have a good year and his price will be higher next year in free agency.
  24. I'm the converted. Gurriel can hit. When he came back from his hamstring injury the guy was clearly not healthy and he was still getting his hits and then he could barely hobble to first.
