  1. I agree. As much as Lindor and Carrasco would have been nice. When it wasn't us, I was glad it was the Mets because I think that takes them out of the Springer sweepstakes.
  2. Just offer 5 and 125 and get it done.
  3. What I don't get is they wanted Gurriel from us plus prospects. Giminez and Rosario aren't near as good as Gurriel IMO. I think Gurriel is only improving with the bat. This return looks light, but they seemed to be asking the world from us.
  4. Does this mean they are out on Springer? They have Conforto, Syndergaard and Stroman to deal with next year. I'm assuming they want to keep 2 of those guys and I'm assuming Lindor signs a big extension getting 30+ mil a season. With Cano money coming back on the books next year having Cano, Lindor, DeGrom plus Syndergaard and Conforto adding Springer to that might be a bit much if they don't plan on exceeding the luxury tax.
  5. Last year's market isn't anything like this years. There's a reason no one has signed. Roark's deal was bad even by last year's standards where teams were paying. Who's paying 4 and 56 plus a 10 mil posting deal making it an average of 16 a year in this market. Kikuchi has put up 1.4 wins total over the last 2 seasons. He's the cautionary tale if anything. Give me Kluber, give me Paxton, give me Hendriks if that is what it's going to take to sign Sugano.
  6. If he stays the 3 years it's 8 mil AAV. 8.75 mil with a buyout on a 2 year contract. I still can't believe Hand didn't get picked up for 1 and 10. If Treinen get's almost 9 guaranteed over 2 years. 3 and 33 is probably fair for Hendricks. 3 and 30 with a 4th year 10 mil option and a 4 mil buyout. An extra mil for Hendriks guaranteed and there is a chance he's still good and we pick up that 4th year and we have an extra mil to play with each year.
  7. It's less about his ability. His funky delivery would drive me nuts though too. If we got him, I wouldn't be disappointed at the right price. I really just want to get Kluber. Elbow's, rotator cuffs, labrums. These are injuries that happen to pitchers and they just can't throw like they used to when the return. Kluber had a broken bone, which is a freak accident injury. He also had an oblique and a teres(basically a mini Lat) injury. The soft tissue injuries are concerning because he rightly contains more risk for reoccurrence. None of those injuries are ones that make me think they will diminish his ability to throw the way he used to. Kluber could just be a guy who's largely rested his arm for 2 years. I think he could be the steal of the off season.
  8. Turf technology has come a long way and turf is being replaced far more often. Day one of turf is far different than the same field 10 years later. Thankfully the Jays are replacing the turf this offseason, so we will have the best possible version of the turf day one of the season this year.
  9. Yeah if no one would take hand for free for 1 and 10 maybe hendriks tops out at 10 mil a season. Given that Melancon got 4 and 62, 3 and 30 or even 4 and 40 seems pretty reasonable for Hendriks.
  10. I hope we don't get Sugano.
  11. and he had a draft pick tied to him.
  12. Hendriks put up 3.9 wins in 2019 and 1.4 last year in 60 games. He's been the best reliever in baseball the last 2 years. I don't think his AAV will get to 15, but in a non covid year 3 and 45 is pretty fair.
  13. You don't remember that well because we traded Hendriks for one year of Jesse Chavez, which some on here didn't mind. I feel like it was Jonn who was deathly against the trade because Chavez was owed something like 5 mil and Hendriks was league min and he figured we could have signed someone similar for chavez for the difference and held onto Hendriks. As it turned out it was a pretty lopsided trade.
  14. Tanaka himself post red on Twitter he was considering all teams who had interest. So there’s that.
  15. I'm so grateful for these posting players who have an actual deadline to give us something to talk about. 13 of top 65 free agents(according to MLB traderumors) have signed and 2 were qualifying offers and one was Kim who had a posting deadline.
  16. Place your bets. Where is Sugano going? I'll take the Giants or the Mariners.
  17. Smoak got a one year deal in Japan. Japan pays a lot more than Korea. Sugano probably is getting a pretty high offer in Japan. Teams will have to offer at least 8 to 10 per year for 3 or 4 years I'm guessing.
  18. A guy with a sense of humour. Get rid of him!
  19. There's a whole lot of guys who must be getting antsy. There sure seems like a lot more players to be bought than there are buyers. There may be quite a few free agents with no buyers or one buyer. Marcell Ozuna was 79% better than league average with the bat and I haven't even heard of teams kicking the tires on him.
  20. You're right. They shocked me when they signed Ryu. That's why I have some hope and faith that they will spend uncomfortable money to sign a free agent that many on here will say that's too much for that guy! I absolutely hated the Roark signing. Signing Ryu was a turning point of sorts. My faith in management took a u-turn last year. I can't complain about the moves they made at the deadline last year either. I actually liked the Ray signing. We'll see what they do the rest of the off season.
  21. Signings are usually broken on Twitter. Why do I get the feeling Bauer will do a youtube live to announce his decision? He'll go with the top 5 going through each team with commentary revealing the team he ultimately signs with last.
  22. he's not looking fit, but you forgot how fat he actually was. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eV2Bncv83c4
  23. Springer is a 5 plus win player who derives most of his value with his bat. He was on pace for 6 plus wins last year. The previous year he put up 6.5 wins in 122 games. Why can't Springer bring us a WS next year? Even if we signed him our payroll would still be under 100 million. We don't have to be the Yankees. We just have to be the Jays circa 2015 and 2016. The Jays had one of their highest payrolls in 2016 and probably made their most money in that season. There's a business case for spending money at this point. We are a really good team. We don't stop at Springer. Kluber, Paxton, Walker, Odorizzi, Rosenthal, Hand, Hendriks, McGee, Yates...maybe JTR, DJL. There's zero reason this team couldn't spend 150 to 160 million dollars. The money will be there from Rogers. They are just expecting results if they payroll goes there. It takes some balls to make the moves. Everything that has come out of Shapiro's mouth suggests he's going to make a splash. You value hunters are going to be complaining about some deal. Some were complaining about Ryu and 4 and 80 being too much.
  24. I really didn't even like the idea of Springer a couple months ago. Then I kind of warmed up to the idea and the possible fits. Now I think I just want to land him because everyone in the entire baseball world believes he will go to Mets. All these people are probably right, but the shock value of landing Springer would be fantastic. I'm not getting my hopes up, but if we overpaid and got him I won't be bothered by what we had to pay to get him.
  25. Any top free agent is going to come with angst on the back end of his year. You don't think a 300 mil deal for Lindor doesn't come with a few scary years at the back end of the deal? DJL is a year older than Springer and looking for a 5 year deal. 6 for Springer and 5 for DJL comes with the same risk. If you think DJL is a better fit and the AAV is lower then go that direction. There are multiple paths for the Jays to improve their team. Any of these paths will involve a risky contract.
