  1. How is it possible for one team to trade for Darvish, Snell and Musgrove in the same off season!
  2. We have a lot of payroll coming off at the end of the year. Next year we have 35 mil committed. Arb players aren't all that expensive add another 12 to 15. 55 mil for springer and Bauer would have us sitting at 102 to 105 committed plus league min spots. We would still be able to add next year with Bauer and Springer signed. Grichuk would only have 2 years left at 10.3 per year left too.
  3. I'm my fantasy dream world, we let Vlad play 3rd for a year and we sign Springer and Bauer. Then Cleveland sucks and with all the prospect capital we horded we empty the farm next to acquire Bieber and Ramirez when they have 3 and 2 years of control left. Cleveland will realize they need a reset and we will have a super team.
  4. Yeah last time I checked Bregman was a third baseman. I'm pretty sure Correa is Huston's primary shortstop! Bregman a 3 year college player like Martin. Martin actually had better college stats. Bregman played his age 21 season after being drafted in A Ball. The following year he started as AA moved to AAA and made his debut in the bigs and got 217 at bats with a 16% better than league average bat in his first year. If Martin follows the same path he would be up this year mid summer. I'm not saying Martin will be Bregman, but they have the same pedigree. You at least prepare for the possibility a guy like Martin might be ready to come up next year.
  5. The one player I don't think I've seen us linked to is Trevor Rosenthal. Am I the only one who thinks he's be a great add? I feel like he will get something similar to Treinen.
  6. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought that. The idea of trading 3 years of Teo who might be turning into an elite offensive talent for 4 years of a solid but not spectacular player and have to eat 17 mil plus give up 7 years of Martin seems insane. Just go sign Springer..lol.
  7. You could have said the same of Kirk last year at the beginning of the year, but he was promoted. The clock did start, so maybe the mindset has changed. Getting the most high upside prospects up at the same time gives you more opportunities in the playoffs. If Martin comes up next year that gives him, Pearson, Biggio, Vlad, Cavan, Bo, and Kirk 5 years to go for it in the playoffs.
  8. I'll include it in my bold predictions thread. Martin makes his debut with the Jays in 2021. The consensus around here is "no chancey". It's not like I would be counting on for sure. I just see it as a more realistic potential than most it would seem. The Jays brought up a 21 year old Kirk who hadn't played above A ball to support a 7th place playoff team. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that we see Martin in 2021. Regardless this team needs pitching!
  9. That's going to be Martin because he's going to kill it! It could be Bo, Vlad, Cavan or Rowdy. There's less odds that someone doesn't get hurt than they all stay healthy. Even if they all stay healthy Martin could come up. You don't hold top prospects back when you are a playoff team. If he's killing it in the minors you bring him up to see if he can help the big club. My whole premise is based on my belief that Martin will kill it this year in the minors. You obviously aren't as high on him as I am. That's fine.
  10. So...mid season the Jays are in a playoff position. Cavan Biggio goes down with a season ending injury and Martin has a 1.050 .OPS that started in AA and has continued in AAA. You are not going to bring him up.
  11. Martin was the consensus number 2 overall draft pick. He's one week younger than Vlad. It's not like he's an 18 year old who is still physically maturing. College is not that different than the lower levels of the minors. He was a 3 year college player who had a .500 OBP the last 2 years when you combine the years. He was at the alternative site facing AA and AAA pitchers last year. He's the 20th ranked prospect in baseball. I don't need to see him play a full year a A then another full year at AA and a full year at AAA with him making his appearance at the MLB in 2024 in his age 25 season. Scouts believe his hit tool is really good. Martin is part of my win now strategy because I think he's really good. My ideal scenario is sign Springer and Gurriel, Grichuk and Teo rotate through the DH position. Vlad plays third to start the year. Martin starts in AA and if he does well a quick move to AAA and if he's killing it you can't hold him back. I can see a scenario where he comes up mid season and Vlad moves to 1st/DH. The reality is this assumes we have no injuries. We will likely have some injuries leading to Martin's opportunities. You don't buy a Ferrari and park it in your garage for your friends to look at when they come over. You drive it.
  12. This team needs pitching and where are you playing Martin the next 4 years?
  13. He was hitting 94 in an off season throwing session. I'm sure he has some more left in the tank. One of Paxton's greatest attributes is he's a guy who might actually come here. No one else will!
  14. Now who's Paxton going to pick!
  15. If the Jays paid Springer 5 and 250. Obviously not going to happen, just illustrating a point. Next year our payroll would be 85 million committed. We'd still have room to add multiple guys and his deal would expire when the same year Vlad, Bo and Cavan become free agents. 5 and 135 for springer. Make it happen. 6 and 150 if you have to. You can front load some of the contract.
  16. Shapiro came out and told everyone that would listen that he was hopeful to get one or two impact free agents. He is part of the group that wants to accelerate the competitive window. I don't know how you shorten it by signing free agents. You keep all your prospects.
  17. The Atlanta Braves are sitting at 120 mil in payroll. The Giants are losing almost their entire payroll at the end of the season. Now is not the time to get cute on Springer. Teams can jump in and steal him if you try and get cute.
  18. You can compare any 2 players and contracts and who got the better value. These two particular players are ones where one got 92 mil guaranteed and one got 90 guaranteed. They seem like the ideal guys to compare value wise. They got the same money! I wouldn't have even mentioned JD if BTS hadn't said that he didn't think the Yankees got a good deal. I just took the player who got similar money and given the years and luxury tax consideration and all that goes into suggested that DJ deal represented far better value and why some feel the Yankees got a deal.
  19. I'll take that bet. I really don't get a steamer over projections like you do. I think DJ will have more FWAR than JD next year. For a team that pays a 50% luxury tax and 8 is more meaningful.
  20. I'm saying Donaldson had a higher injury risk premium than DJ. DJ put up a 5.4 win season followed by a 2.5 win season in 50 games. Donaldson had a 4.9 win season going into his free agency year preceded by 2 injury plagued years. You think the twins signed him thinking at age 34 to 38 he was going to be able to capture his past glory and be a 7 or 8 win player? I think they thought he could be a 5 win player for 2 or 3 years. DJ looks like a 5 win player for the next 2 to three years. JD got 23 a year. DJ got 15 a year. DJ's deal when you consider the tax implications was a far better deal than JDs deal even if you think JD was a slightly better player at the age of 33. Are you trying to say that the Twins got the better value?
  21. D DJ was on pace for an 8 win season, coming off 2 very good years in which he was healthy. JD missed 50 games, then almost missed an entire season, came back and had a nice 4.9 WIN season, but not near his peak, he was 2 years older and he got his 92 mil over 4 years AAV of 23. As I said, 15 mil for DJ seems like a deal compared to what JD got even if you feel he was a better player considering the injuries.
  22. Josh Doanldson was in his age 34 season the first year of his deal and he had injury issues. He got north of 90 guaranteed. DJ is in his age 32 season this year and he got 90 guaranteed. Seems like a deal to me.
  23. He's half the size so he's worth half the money. I guess he should eat some more cheesecake. Maybe he'd be worth more.
  24. The time is now. Go sign Paxton and one of Yates or Rosenthal. Give Springer a reason to want to come here.
  25. Kluber was the guy I wanted...now I'm pissed.
