  1. Much of his no trade list has been made public. Yankees, Boston, Detroit and Toronto are on his very long list.
  2. You also have to factor in their complete return for Utley, Young and Papelbon. If Texas, Detroit and Boston all go hard for Papelbon, the Phillies will win big. The Utley to Baltimore rumors won't go away and LJ Hoes would certainly be in that deal if it happens. He's likely ready to play in the Majors. That would be a nice young outfielder for Philly.
  3. Don't forget the option/ buy-out. Also factor in Peavy's injury history and remember that he's injured now. They almost passed on resigning him this year. Anyway, the Chicago media speculation values him for 1 very good prospect if the ChiSox eat a lot of salary or a lot less if they dump it all.
  4. No, no and no! I'm guessing that he stays in Philly, for a lot less guaranteed money and incentives. I could also see him taking the same kind of deal with Colorado. Being at home, coming off this kind of injury might appeal to him. He's a Denver area guy afterall and they have a decent and improving club.
  5. Eat all of Peavy's contract, toss in $800k slot allocation and send two C+ prospects.
  6. Lets just say they land Peavy. That would make the current rotation: Peavy, Dickey, Buehrle, Johnson & Rogers. Plug in Stroman/ Nolin in 4 weeks once Rogers is out of innings. That probably puts them 2 weeks (3-4 starts) away from Happ and possibly Morrow returning. Next year you qualify JJ and take the pick and have Peavy, Dickey, Buehrle, Morrow and one of Rogers, Happ, Hutchison, Stroman, Nolin, Drabek or Romero as the 5th man.
  7. Peavy is a good fit, though Garza or Norris wouldn't be terrible options. All three of those pitchers come from teams that are interested in international free agent slot money.
  8. Dare to dream but Lee has Toronto on his no trade list and current reports out of Philly suggest that Lee won't be traded. They are looking to contend next year and it's suggested that they will trade Utley, Young and Papelbon and then spend on free agents during the offseason. It's even been suggested that they will trade and resign Utley.
  9. The Cubs got Arrieta and Strop, a 27 year old starter who has been bad for 2 years and a wild 28 year old reliever. While both have skills and upside, a C prospect and a minor leaguer with upside is probably better being that two 40-man roster slots don't get eaten and the players would be younger. The slot money was this deal and the Cubs even tossed in a backup catcher.
  10. Ummm ok. Yep, I'm wrong. The O's got Feldman instead of Garza and the Cubs have only traded for $963,000 in international free agent slot money so far. I will always speak with confidence but for sure I'll be wrong plenty when speculatating on player movement. I will never be wrong when I say that a team is interested in player XYZ because I'd never say so without knowing so. Btw, at least 80% of what I stated in this thread has been said by baseball writers all across America and has been posted on the Internet. Just an FYI, I was the first person on the planet to report that AA was going to Tijuana to watch Gonzalez pitch last Friday. Try not to hate when someone is merely trying to share.
  11. I'm not saying that. Tendinitis doesn't have to be a big deal. That said, whenever he is injured, it will be a challenge for him to recover. McGowan is a pretty close to home example.
  12. Have some of you been hiding under rocks? He is out until mid August at earliest. He may be gone for the season. Forearm tendinitis. And he is diabetic, which impacts recover time.
  13. This year I would have traded away most, if not all of the slot money. There's still over a million remaining to deal away and the Cubs are thought to be looking for more to use for international free agents.
  14. Or less. He's being billed as Darvish ready and it's been said that a max of 2-3 minor league starts and then a call up will be a commitment he's looking for when signing.
  15. Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos watched Cuban right-hander Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez pitch on Friday in Tijuana, Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun reports (Twitter link). The Jays made a high-profile signing out of Cuba three years ago when they signed shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria to a four-year, $10MM contract. I did report this Friday here and on Twitter btw.
  16. Pointing out that he's 38 really doesn't mean much. He is a knuckleballer and it is generally thought that his prime has at least 5 more years to it. His just win the Cy and is coming off a complete game shutout. I just don't know here. I mean if you're really supposed to assume that a knuckleballer hits his prime 5-7 years later than a conventional pitcher and also assume that his career lasts 5-7 years longer, isn't Dickey just 28 or 29 in pitcher years?
  17. The Cubs wouldn't do that deal, agreed. Unlike the ChiSox who are looking to dump a salary and while looking for position players, maybe one near to the Majors, the Cubs probably want arms who are in A-ball.
  18. Pretty sure Garza lands with the Orioles, maybe the Red Sox. I'm still guessing 2 prospects, neither elite but each good and some international free agent spending money.
  19. Firstly, C prospects are sometimes potentially elite players but get a C due to how far away they are. Secondly, packaging non elite prospects to the Cubs can work and will be done by others and here's why. No matter if they deny it, it's known that they will be looking for international free agent cap spending money in the deals they make in order to load up. This spending money can be reallocated in trades. Dealing with the Cubs may not be so much what kids are sent, its the cap cash that is added.
  20. Omar Infante was a big part of the Tigers trade with Miami as well.
  21. I think that you believe that only elite prospects or As and Bs have value. C prospects are highly valued. Out top 19 preseason were C+ or better.
  22. Supposedly he is looking to sign and join his MLB club after 2-3 minor league starts.
  23. Gonna try to find out how many scouts are going with him. The Red Sox had 8 scouts-- 8 at his last game.
  24. And I believe that for the first time ever I beat the planet on reporting something on the web.
  25. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/danny-knobler/22537375/teams-lining-up-to-watch-cuban-pitcher-who-may-get-60-million AA on a plane to San Diego. It's a 30 minute drive to Tijuana.
