  1. Btw I could see Boni as valuable in a playoff series. Some teams carry just 11 or even 10 pitchers in a short series. I suppose that Boni would have value as a pinch runner. I guess.
  2. And yet Philadelphia, Atlanta and Pittsburgh have expressed interest in him. Cincy too I believe. I personally think that he's worth a bag of popcorn but if someone else actually sees something in him, you trade him, you don't DFA him. And by trade I mean add him as a throw in on a deal. Bonifacio is no center piece.
  3. They should just let Verlander participate. He wants to and is actually very proficient at hitting BP home runs.
  4. Maybe we get lucky and Bonifacio is suspended after the break for PEDs.
  5. Watch AA pick up Bonderman. A typical AA kind of move. Surely Seattle is hoping that someone will trade them NOTHING and eat something off what's left on that contract.
  6. If his arm is fatigued due to innings, they will just stick him in the 15-day DL with a sore arm and then activate him in September when rosters expand. He probably maxes out about a week into August.
  7. Absolutely. A little slump does not define a player. He has a plus arm, is a good defender, has a high baseball IQ and hits right handers well. He'd fit very well today in a platoon with Davis and would slide in nicely in the 2-hole. If Melky came back healthy I would view it as a good problem to have.
  8. Relax guys. The entire conversation was about Wheeler being the center piece and how much Miami likes Wheeler and his years of control, ceiling, etc.
  9. Ya, they specifically pointed out that 3 years of service wasnt enough for what they'd be giving up. Also pointed out that the Mets are probably 3 years away from being a serious contender. That would be Stanton's walk year.
  10. Peter Gammons was on the Joe and Evan Show and suggested Wheeler, Flores and one of Syndergaard/ Montero. Also said that would be too much without an extension.
  11. Here's a good gauge of what the Cubs are trying to get and how he is valued outside of Chicago. The Cubs asked Baltimore for Jonathan Schoop and Eduardo Rodriguez and cap slot estimated to be around $750k. The Orioles didnt think twice about rejecting that. In fact Baltimore thought that Schoop straight up was too much for a rental.
  12. I can't think of a single midseason trade that was contingent to an extension. That said, the Mets are apparently talking to Miami about Stanton but only with an extension.
  13. Drabek was optioned the second they had a roster spot. This stopped the clock on the MLB service time he was accumulating. The service time was becoming an issue.
  14. Lol it's year 1 from a 2nd Tommy John Surgery. He's not going to throw more than 40-60 pitches per appearance this year.
  15. There would be no window. They are trying to deal now and before Garza's next start. They need extra slot money now! They are running out of time. I wouldn't be shocked to see Garza dealt today.
  16. In fairness to Drabek, I've seen games in which he had 10+ strikes turned into balls simply because Arencibia was handcuffed by his late movement. Heck, I saw Drabek fire a strike that was missed clean by JPA that was a ball after it went off the umpire's chest pad. And I'm not exaggerating. In a game v Texas JPA blew 7 in one inning and Drabek ended up not making it out of it. That's brutal! When you have a pitcher with filthy late movement and questionable command, a catcher has to receive and frame every pitch well. Many do pass through the zone but you're never getting the call if you lunge and slap at it. Last year Drabek seemed to be doing very well with the Juan Guzman formula of just fire away and let the ball move through the zone. Arencibia did him no favours.
  17. Arencibia is naturally gifted. He even had Joe Torre gushing over him this Spring. A lean, muscular athlete with a strong arm and a power bat at the catcher position? Sounds too good to be true. It is. He just doesn't get it and simply doesn't improve. The stone hands, the bad footwork, the bad pitch selection, the refusal to square up behind the plate, the never positioning his mitt over his right knee with left handed batters at the plate, all of it just ruin what baseball people see in him. There's no denying that the kid has a ceiling far beyond what we've seen but without the work and an open mind, there's no way he reaches it.
  18. With Morrow and Happ unjured and Romero not rebounding from surgery, this is what you get. Add in that Jenkins has really not developed into anything other than a long reliever, Stroman delayed by the suspension and Deck not developing at all and it worsens. Then you can also factor in that Johnson pitched in pain and then missed time and still hasn't found command of his secondary pitches. Yikes! The club needs a decent starter now!
  19. Sadly Garza has pitched so well that he's now the top available arm (according to Onley and Rosenthal) and would cost more than Peavy. Cleveland are apparently hot after him.
  20. Oh ya, Doc will also throw a cutter and take a ton off it and use that as a change too. Forgot about that.
  21. I hear what he's saying. At times Halladay would have 120 pitch outings and throw 95 cutters. It would seem like he only had 2 pitches. He actually has a straight change, which is really a palm ball, a slow splitter that he learned with Toronto but started to use more in Philly, a 2-seam fastball, a 4-seam fastball which he used a lot early in his career and rarely uses now and two different curve balls, one being a 12-6 like Chris Carpenter's and a slurve. He has all of those but he simply throws so many cutters, it's hard to notice the other pitches.
  22. Pete Walker recently compared what's going on with McGowan to how John Smoltz was handled when he returned from injury. Smoltz spent time as a closer, quite a bit of time actually. Smoltz had trouble with the touch on his offspeed stuff and stamina/ arm strength was a concern. McGowan is using all of his pitches which indicates that he'll start again at some point but while he has shown excellent movement and sharpness to his breaking stuff, he has shown that there's little command at this point. He is missing spots and living on his fastball and on hitters chasing and on luck. Watch McGowan and you'll see sliders snap off but miss. You can see his face when he misses the corner by several inches and he's not happy. He's not far off but he's not there. He'll freeze a guy with something filthy and back door and slightly miss. Well that's an out pitch if he's on. He just isn't ready yet. He needs to find that touch and then you can stretch him out. I think if it happens this year, it's a gift. By next Spring is more likely.
  23. Could claim that the comments caused him personal emotional stress. Could claim that they have hindered ability to do his job by alienating him from Arencibia's teammates. Could claim that he's been but in an uncomfortable situation being that he works for a company that also owns the Blue Jays. There is also the possibility that Sportsnet sues. This would make the most sense. Zaun would be named as a plaintiff but it would be a suit filed by his employer. This isn't unheard of. Divisions of GM have sued other divisions. Companies within Time Warner have sued each other, the Oakland A's are a defendant in the City of San Jose's suit over moving the A's to San Jose. I guess that it's benificial at times for businesses to use the legal system.
  24. I have no idea if he will or not. It'll come down to what he's advised to do. When he was asked about this on PTS he simply said that he hasn't ruled it out. He has a year to decide? I think it's a year...
