Re: Peavy
The Chicago media disagree with you. The general take is that they need him to return from the cracked rib quickly so they can get a decent prospect by eating some salary or a few ok ones by dumping the salary. He isn't cheap and that option year is hefty for the age he'll be.
Yes but they want him stretching out into a long man before even considering it. Commanding his breaking pitches has to come first and he'll get several more short outings to improve that command and feel before building up his stamina.
Sorry, blame Cliff Lee.
Though not all teams have been confirmed (though some are), the 8 teams that Lee has listed as his only trade destinations are thought to be Texas, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Anaheim, the Bronx, Atlanta, Miami and San Francisco.
Funny thing is that I know several MLB umpires and they love the guy. He's all friendly, while not being a kiss ass on and off the field with umpires and during ST he's paid some umpire bar bills on the QT. Spring Training is the only place this would fly btw. He's thought of as respectful, though not very good at catching. He also apologizes like mad when he lets one get by. That's also appreciated.
Ya, I'd say that he's improving. Repeating release point and landing and with velocity up. Those are steps in the right direction. He's not short arming his pitches either. There will be ups and downs as he tries to regain form but I believe that there's been progress.
Cliff Lee and his 21-team no trade contract that includes Detroit, Boston and TORONTO is not a choice. The Jays have Romero improving, Stroman and Nolin maturing, Jenkins struggling, Drabek set to relieve all year as he rehabs from his second TJ Surgery and Hutchison perhaps returning by late August... Perhaps. With Morrow likely out until mid-late August, if not out for the season, Happ not even throwing off a mound yet and Rogers running out of innings, the club NEEDS another starter...
Not even close. Garza is a rental who wouldn't get a qualifying offer coming off his injuries. Peavy would be inexpensive too as the ChiSox are dumping the salary. Those are as close as you can get to an ace, as Lee has Toronto on his no trade list. Step down a notch to Feldman and he's also a rental. Norris would cost some talent but not the kind you're suggesting. He simply isn't elite.
Excess arms in September? No problem! The roster is expanded. Hutch has an outside shot of maybe 2-3 starts this year but Drabek has none. Morrow may be back but not before Rogers is out of innings.
He has to trade. And honestly, though Peavy will still be out a few weeks, he can be had for as little as Nessy and Pillar. And I don't want to hear Pillar is a stud bs. He's a future 4th outfielder on a contender. He is Jim Negrych with more power. The ChiSox would be happy to get rid of the contract.
