  1. http://www.closecallsports.com/2013/06/major-league-umpiring-debut-will-little.html?m=1 It's a fantasy league based on blown or correct calls, tough calls and ejections but that aside, the info and analysis is interesting IMO. Worth checking out.
  2. The timing would have him back to start the home stand after the all star break. Have to admit that I figured he'd be gone at least 2 weeks longer.
  3. Sure, during an offseason. Not when you're contending and looking for a piece or two. Nate Schierholtz isn't an old player and would be more than a rental. Selling high on Perez is just smart. His value is down the road. He probably has no more than 60 innings left this season.
  4. You have to either remember or realize that Rose is MLBs all-time fielding percentage leader as an outfielder. He also had really soft hands as an infielder and while his throws were often described as short armed or awkward looking, he was very accurate.
  5. I think the word, "Quite" jumped out. As for defense, Rose was solid at 2b and the outfield long before he shifted to third where he was good. He was also good at 1b.
  6. Crap? If you say so. But if you really don't think that he can play 2b, put him at 3rd. His mobility has been more than solid for Philly this year at 3b btw. He'd be a gigantic defensive upgrade at 2nd over Bonifacio.
  7. I make 2 trades (as mentioned before)... Nate Schierholtz and Matt Garza from the Cubs for a package around Nolin (Nolin, Rogers, Sierra and Thon) and the Phillies deal for Young I just suggested.
  8. If by a few weeks you mean 5-7 weeks, and you want to get by with Izturis at 3b and Bonifiasco at 2b until then, by all means don't make a trade. And while I get how good Delabar has been, there are so many good relievers in the organization and more getting healthy. Selling high on a relief pitcher with no options when there is a line to fill his role and address a team weakness seems logical.
  9. Cliff Lee's contract allowed him to name 21 teams he couldn't be traded to. He has already been quoted as saying that he would likely stick to his list. Toronto is on that list. Boston is too actually.
  10. A few more Phillies losses and Michael Young becomes available. Delabar and Bonifacio would probably be enough. They like Boni, though the reason escapes logic as far as I'm concerned. Just play Izturis at 2b and Young at 3rd. When Lawrie comes back, shift Young to 2nd.
  11. Everyone aside from Oakland, Miami, Tampa Bay, Minnesota and the Yankees are probably interested.
  12. To answer the question of the day-- yes, the Jays scouted him and are interested. At last count 17 MLB clubs have scouted him and the list should grow to over 20. Now here's the issues. (1) It'll be a over weeks before he's cleared to play. (2) He will be expecting to be on a 25-man roster in under 3 weeks. (3) He'll probably cost 5-years/$70mm, though this year would be a short one. (4) He'll want a signing bonus and back ended money because this year will be pro-rated.
  13. Huh? I wouldn't offer anything to get Headley. I was merely pointing out what kind of deal San Diego are looking for. They want far too much. I wouldn't be in on him.
  14. And fair enough but until Stroman gets more work, Nolin matures, Ricky is Ricky again, Happ is healthy-- there isn't much behind the 4 1/2 starters we currently have.
  15. Not much. He's a soon to be DFA by the Padres. So what if we used him for 5 innings twice?
  16. Volquez would be dirt cheap. Rogers is going to run out of innings and Happ isn't healthy yet. Acquiring him for a bag of balls isn't the worst idea.
  17. -Nate Schierholtz and Matt Garza from the Cubs -Michael Young from the Phillies Nolin, Rogers, Sierra and someone with upside who hasn't done much like Thon to the Cubs would work. Rogers has more value next year when he'll be ready to go more than 100-120 innings. Bonifacio is liked in Philly. The can have him, along with Delabar and done.
  18. Them wanting more than what they got for Latos for a player who will be wearing pinstripes in 2015 makes it not worth it.
  19. At least. Try Lawrie + Gose + Stroman.
  20. Headley is a player the Padres would like to keep. He's looking at about 6-years/$100mm. San Diego have also indicated that if he were to be traded they'd expect more than what they got for Mat Latos.
  21. By decent I am not talking top 30 in the organization or anything but good enough that his ceiling gives him a shot at being a fairly good MLB player one day.
  22. Perez has been so shut down that yes, a contending team that is short on relievers would probably give up a prospect and a decent one as long as he's years away and in A-ball.
  23. No one is touching a guy coming off his second TJ surgery. Drabek has microscopic trade value at best.
  24. Just DFA Perez. There will be multiple claims and several days to work a trade for a small return.
  25. McGowan threw 11 pitches and 8 were strikes. He struck out 2. The only hit was a meaningless mop up home run. He was bad?
