  1. Clearly McCann would be nice to have. He's going to eant 5 years and around $14 million per. He'll probably sèttle on 4 years, for around 13-14 AAS.
  2. I believe that Scott Gracey and Kenny Wilson have to be added to the roster. Add the returning wounded like Hutchison and Perez and Morrow and it will be a numbers game in November.
  3. Of course he is moved. Trade for PTBNL or let go on waivers. The Blue Jays need to clear up multiple 40-man roster spots before September 1st and more after the season. They are log jammed badly.
  4. Catcher is the one position where I could live with a full time platoon. Catchers can't play every game and do need rest. Toronto rode this before with Whitt and Martinez with good results.
  5. He'll only get 7 years and $160 million. Lol.
  6. The only name that jumps out is McCann. Expect him to look for 5 years and $70 million. Watch him take 4 years and $57 million. Toronto could jump in and I hope that AA does.
  7. That's over 2 years. He's looking at around 14 million/ year.
  8. Not surprising. They made their intentions clear weeks ago.
  9. Thole is not an everyday catcher but he is good enough to be the primary half of a platoon. He is a good receiver and does get on base v rhp when he plays with some regularity. I'm not talking about a potential all-star here but a player who is younger than JPA who has the upside to be a solid backstop.
  10. Do you actually watch the games? He's a singles hitter who has been working on driving the ball. It was working in Buffalo. He hasn't had any regular ABs in Toronto. If he were hitting .400 the sample size would be too small to judge and hitting well below the Mendoza line also doesn't change the sample size.
  11. He's hit at least 3 balls that were yard if the dome were closed. I was there for the shot to left centre v Houston that was run down and caught against the wall. Part of the problem, other than sample size, is that he's hitting infield choppers or shots to gaps that are being caught on good fielding plays. He's not knocking any of his typical singles just over the infield. It'll work out in time.
  12. They won't be tanking. They have 3 with Houston, 1 with the White Sox, games at home with the Angels, who have packed it in and a ton of games with the free falling turmoil team known as the New York Yankees. Also keep in mind that the Jays' depth of relievers makes them one of the best constructed September teams in baseball with the expanded rosters. They almost can't help but make up the 7 games under .500 and then some and even pass the Yankees. Shame they threw away the season so early. Watch them win 83-84 games and frustrate all of us by missing the playoffs by 7 or 8 games.
  13. Just go look at some video. Romero lost all command and walked the World. JJ has been tipping pitches and it's been identified and is being fixed. Nothing wrong with JJ other than a 3-5 inch release point differential on his breaking balls to his fastballs post triceps injury. He had it mostly matched up last night. When 49% of your pitches are flat 4-seam fastballs, try to succeed when your slider, change and curve are being released from a different slot. No one has been fooled for weeks and they've been teeing off. JJ just needs to match his release, add some more 2-seamers and sliders and he'll be fine. Like to see that 4-seam rate drop to about 40%, maybe even 37-38%.
  14. I've pointed this out before and the Jays staff are very aware of it. JJ has tipped his pitches since returning from the triceps injury. His breaking balls have been released at 2 o'clock and his fastballs closer to 1 o'clock. Last night he had his release point matching on all pitches until the 5th. They got him out with a pitch count under 85. This is a mechanics work in progress to get him back to his old self. No point on ripping on Johnson. His stuff is fine, even with a flat 4-seamer that has always been pretty flat. He's been beaten up because hitters have known what's coming. That kinda makes hitting pretty easy. Love Thole catching btw. Leave him in for a few games and allow him to get his hitting stroke going. He's historically a solid OBP guy v rhp.
  15. His WAR has nothing to do with his popularity. They love Jeter. That's just how it is. Swisher was more popular than A-Rod in New York. Pettitte-- more popular.
  16. New York and Yankees fans in general have never really warmed up to A-Rod. They love Jeter. Rodriguez has often been tagged as not a true Yankee.
  17. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/1146955_10151498853976536_1749209948_o.jpg
  18. And one player coming off a serious injury, while the other played over his head for a few weeks.
  19. Be ready to spoon feed or explain more when September call ups happen and people wonder who some of them are or why they're up. Relievers like Scott Gracey and Alan Farina are possibles. Might as well see them up close before deciding if either gets a 40-man roster spot before the Winter Meetings. Gracey is intetesting, though the club is deep in relievers. He's like a new man since adding a cutter this year. He's 91-92 on the 2-seamer, 87-88 with his cutter, which is his newest and best pitch, and has a change and slider. He joins the long list of useful relievers, though he may land elsewhere before next season.
  20. There were more buyers than ever the past two years and still the sellers could move players. I'm not sure that moving the deadline later would help. If anything I would think that it would create more sellers and fewer buyers. Removing compensation for players traded for mid-season has killed the trade action more than anything if you ask me. You want more trades? Have a second supplemental round before round 2. Teams would get compensation in S2 for losing a qualified player who was acquired during the season. I'd figure more trades.
  21. There's some very guarded secrets being protected when it comes to A-Rod and this scandal. Sure, there is speculation that Rodriguez tried to pay career criminals to break into the lab and steal documents. That all sounds very b-movie or Watergate to me but who knows. If his role includes criminal activities, not sure if the FBI doesn't get involved, if they aren't already. Suspension might be the least of his problems, or perhaps it is the key to some back room dealing to keep him out of handcuffs. This all seems to be much, much bigger than all but a small handful of people know about. I'm guessing that there's enough dirty laundry to suspend him for life. The deal he's being offered will keep him HoF eligible.
  22. No they don't. It's in use at Yankee games and on their broadcasts simply because the MLB offices are in New York. The company that came up with this is working with MLB on more practical uses.
  23. You'll see this 3D replay system in Toronto next year.
  24. Redmond is not that good but not horrible either. He has 5th starter upside and value as a depth starter who can be optioned. With that said, Weber has better stuff and is perhaps better now. Neither of them will ever be stars but by now we should all realize that guys like them do have value!
