  1. lol it was a response to your post "Maximizing player value is never a bad thing. Biagini as a back of rotation starter >> swingman >> reliever." Implying that trying him as a starter is maximizing his value. Obviously it could backfire. I think it's a pretty poor decision to try him there. Name me one pitcher in recent memory that went from a good (not great) reliever to decent starter around his age. I can't recall any, would be glad to discuss examples that I'm missing.
  2. How so? Is alcohol not cut off before the 9th inning in the US? The TV deals and advertising isn't affected each game... if anything you'd think broadcasts would enjoy this type of rule and maybe put more trust into the game cutting out several programs they promised viewers they would offer. I agree it's obviously stupid from a baseball standpoint. All they care about is dollars. We would all still watch the games and it might draw more viewers in and make ESPN, fox sports etc a bit happier. Might make me watch less often though, to be honest.
  3. I agree that God Bless America is annoying and probably not needed but the National Anthem is a good way to start the game in the country the ball game is being played. I don't think many (intelligent) people would argue that.
  4. lol wow! Can't wait for the day that there's no national anthem before our sporting events! Hopefully you are either trolling or realize how stupid this sounds.
  5. Did not know that thanks, that is actually really interesting.
  6. I think everyone is aware that it is a small building in St. Mary's, Ontario- a boring town north of London known for stone. Doesn't mean that we shouldn't be happy Halladay is being inducted and earlier than most others from what I remember.
  7. Roy Halladay will be inducted into the Canadian baseball HOF. Also, he has talked to the Blue Jays about returning to baseball in some capacity: "TORONTO – He’s not yet sure where or in what capacity, but Roy Halladay intends to work in baseball again soon. The 39-year-old, whose upcoming induction to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame was announced Thursday, says he expects to be working for a big league team this spring. And who knows, it could be the Blue Jays. “I do have plans to get back into baseball,” Halladay told reporters on a conference call. “At this point I don’t know what team it’ll be with or in what capacity, although I can say I have talked to the Blue Jays.” With six all-star appearances and a Cy Young Award in 12 seasons in Toronto, Halladay ranks among the greatest players in franchise history. He built on that resume in Philadelphia, where he won a second Cy Young, pitched a perfect game and authored a playoff no-hitter. Also up for induction in St. Mary's, Ont., this June 24: longtime Expos outfielder Vladimir Guerrero, past Baseball Canada president Ray Carter, the 2015 Canadian men's team that won gold at the Pan-Am Games and umpire Doug Hudlin, who will be inducted posthumously. Halladay worked as a guest instructor for the Phillies in 2014, not long after he officially retired from baseball with the Blue Jays. Three years later, he’s ready to find another job in baseball. Now it's a question of matching his skills with the needs of MLB teams. “I really do want to get back into baseball,” Halladay said. “I really do enjoy working with younger players, younger pitchers.” The Denver native says he feels a connection to Toronto after spending so much time playing in Canada. Not only did he enjoy lots of success with the Blue Jays, fans welcomed him back warmly when he returned as a member of the Phillies in 2011. “I really feel like I was part of the city, part of the town,” Halladay said. “To get the (Hall of Fame) announcement I was obviously thrilled. Being able to retire with the Blue Jays and getting this honour it feels like everything’s come full circle.” Of course much has changed since the Blue Jays traded Halladay following the 2009 season. After years spent chasing the Yankees and Red Sox, the Blue Jays emerged as legitimate contenders. The fans have returned, too, with an AL-best 41,878 fans per game in 2016. All told, the Blue Jays teams that reached the ALCS in consecutive years made a strong impression on Halladay. “I am so jealous you have no idea,” he said. “It’s just completely awesome seeing that stadium sold out, seeing the excitement of the fans, the excitement of the city, across Canada. They deserve it. “For the Blue Jays to get themselves back into the playoffs, it’s awesome for the team, it’s awesome for the fans, it’s awesome for the city.”" http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/halladay-plans-get-back-baseball-possibly-blue-jays/
  8. If you cherry pick stats, just about any player can look good. I get that it is a fairly recent performance for Upton, but he's not an everyday player IMO.
  9. They obviously screwed up on Edwin (so did his agent... both sides messed up). Don't think there's a legitimate argument against that.
  10. Andy Marte also died in an unrelated car accident
  11. Wow what a lopsided trade! Even with the Travis injuries.
  12. Nope you're thinking of someone else. Was he the only Blue Jay to have 0 male, heterosexual fans?
  13. Much like Steve Pearce, he was pretty solid overall for the Rays, based on a small sample size of WAR.
  14. Shouldn't be much to get Bruce, what are they asking for? Maybe they Jays want some salary relief.
  15. That was a lot easier to read and a no brainer... but anything to make you feel good about the weak offseason.
  16. Interesting but it's still pretty concerning. You form some belief about a player's market, but they had no clue... actually it looks like they had no clue about the DH market overall, since it seems like Morales would be signing for less by now.
  17. Admitting they were clueless on something is pretty surprising, yes.
  18. Yikes. Did he actually say that?
  19. possible, but disappointing!
  20. Good point. Hopefully they ask some difficult questions, although I really doubt it. Will still tune in.
  21. Fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion. Their clearly poor offseason is a reason why I do not support the current FO. They've made some good moves sure, but completely blew it during the last few months. To each their own.
  22. What's so surprising about the results? More recent events are likely to influence these types of polls. It's not a stretch to say the offseason has been poor, from a fan's point of view.
  23. If they're giving him away maybe he's worth a look as a last resort. But in no way should they get him, a couple relievers (not the ones who signed) and think they had a successful offseason. It's been pretty pathetic since the season ended, other than the Gurriel signing.
  24. Ya, Bruce is trash IMO. 30 HR and not much else.
