  1. Great story about Busch Stadium that I love... the Busch family of course owns Budweiser and the Cardinals, and wanted to call it Budweiser Stadium. MLB wouldnt let them so they named it after the family instead.....Busch Stadium.... and then created a new line of beer called Busch after the fact. The old middle finger to MLB!
  2. Seabold signed with Detroit. Apparently he triggered the release clause on the Jays, he signed a split deal with Detroit and will make the opening day roster thanks to the injury to Beau Briske
  3. So basically, the changeup drops waaaay more than others?
  4. Yesavage isnt being stashed in AAA though...
  5. I think now that he's opening the season on the IL, he's getting service time. Besides, even if he was healthy, the Jays shouldn't be worrying about service time manipulation in a season where a deep post-season run is a legit expectation
  6. Yes. He apparently showed up to ST with the issue, and theyve been building him up slowly. per Schneider
  7. f*** at least he's already throwing and being built up. He just wont be built up in time to start the season on the big club. He tossed 35 pitches in a minor league game earlier in the week and felt good, but there isn’t enough time to complete his ramp-up before Opening Day. He is scheduled to throw again on March 25, though no formal return timetable has been set.
  8. Its also very odd that he is pain and symptom free. That seems like it shouldn't be the case, and he has looked fine throwing in ST. Weird situation for sure
  9. insert "old man yells at cloud" gif. 10 year old quotes. Is he dead yet?
  10. WBC entirely in Australia would be perfect to see someday.
  11. I know people are upset at Little's playoff performances and rightly so, but when you have a a guy with 100th percentile whiff rate and 97th percentile ground ball rate, you definitely want to keep him around and do whatever it takes to make it work. His 7% throw rate cutter sucks. If he can dial in a 4 seam at 96 even just to keep it in the heads of the hitter(especially RHB) that something other than a sinker or curve is coming 93% of the time.... it might be what the doctor ordered even if the pitch itself isn't that impressive from a pure "stuff" standpoint. As with anything though, gotta be able to land it for strikes.
  12. They'd never be able to grow the game across the Atlantic pond if that were the case. Israel is the biggest fake team though. Their citizenship rules are extremely broad and WBC rules say anyone who "could" become a citizen of the country can compete. Basically means anyone with Jewish heritage within like 3 generations back or who is married to a Jewish person can compete.
  13. 4seam fastballs are already a tick or two faster than sinkers usually. There's probably some exceptions for certain pitchers, but.. in general the average is like 1.5mph slower. Touching 94.6 with a sinker and touching 98 with a 4 seamer probably isnt THAT weird. I'd be more interested in the avg velo comparisons.
  14. Its possible, but if he finishes high in ROY voting he gets a full year of service time automatically. I'd say that's a pretty decent possibility. So why not just break camp with him, hope he wins ROY and nets a draft pick as well to go along with being one of the best options the Jays have for their rotation?
  15. It COULD be closer. In a 1 game situation, anything is possible. The Canada squad could just have the game of their lives while the US quad has that weird day where everything seems off - stuff happens. It's not probable, but it is possible.
  16. Willful ignorance cannot be educated.
  17. The full quotes for context as im not sure he was intending to compare playing baseball against other countries as the same as being in the military, just that it would have been an honour to serve in the military and it's still a great honour to represent your country in a world baseball tourney. But I can certainly see how it could be taken that way and it's still pretty tone deaf. “I went to the Air Force Academy for two years,” Skenes said. “I wanted to serve. I was intending on serving. Ended up transferring out to [Louisiana State University] and won a national championship there and did some cool stuff there." He continued, “There was a big part of me that was fully intent on serving in the military as a career after college. This isn’t serving, but it’s a pretty close second.”
  18. He has the same type of "ranking" problems that Alan Roden did, and Spencer Horwitz before him and many many others over the years across MLB. Contact, walks, limited power. There's some line in the sand where that power has to play to a certain level before the walks and contact matter all that much at the major league level. What is really encouraging is the leap in max exit velo last season and being above the 90th percentile in line drive + FB rate in all of the minors. There may have been a tweak they found to help unlock something, but I doubt he becomes a true regular. Sure would be nice to have more found money in a guy like Schreck though.
  19. THe problem is the players have to agree to attend and go. Pitchers like Pivetta, Brash, Cade Smith, Sabrowski... that's 4 arms that would make the staff immediately better, but pitching is always going to be Canada's weakness. At their best they'd be able to snag Vlad and Freeman, but that's liekly a pipe dream since Vlad will likely always pay for the DR and Freeman, after this year's decline to play to be closer to family in ST probably won't play again next time around. On the position player side... the rosters is about as good as it gets for Canada right now. The best guys are there. Maybe the 3rd Naylor is ready to contribute next time around, and Cassie takes a step forward? Who else is waiting in the wings as a top tier bat for Canada?
  20. Yeah thats also true. The Canadian squad is one that has just enough ceiling to beat any team when things go really right, but the floor isnt high enough to cruise past the nobody teams when things go wrong like they did last night. The top 4 of the lineup went 2-17 with 2 walks.
  21. Most of the the good pitchers declined to play. Pitching and D was suspect right from the get-go of rosters being announced.
  22. that's some garbage AI generated pics. LOL
  23. Its not a formal contract, it's an agree to sign when he turns 16. it's totally non-binding. They're just agreeing now to pay him 1.8 million in 2031. Just like all the other teams that already have informal agreements with kids before they turn 16.
  24. They have a few junior college arms, and a Div 1, but yeah... household names like: Terrin Vavra (2B) – Former Baltimore Orioles infielder with MLB experience. (160 games, career OPS+ of 83) Marek Chlup (OF) – NPB minor leaguer and 2023 WBC breakout star with a .888 OPS. Martin Muzik (1B) – Team captain and former DII National Champion; hit a key home run in 2023. Martin Schneider (RHP) – Pitcher who threw 5.1 near-perfect innings in 2023 and is a veteran of the Czech Extraliga.
  25. Berrios is an All-Star and will get Cy Young votes. Barger hits 40 HR Clement wins the batting title. Hoffman only allows 3 HR all season.
