    Vlad's season is easily one of the most disappointing performances for an individual player on the Jays for quite a while, especially considering his price-tag.     Do you often see pitchers used on 1 day rest after throwing 44 pitches in a game? Let alone the situation you described in wanting him to throw 3 days out of 4 when the first day was 44 pitches?? Let alone with a guy who's pitched 15 innings total over the previous 2 seasons and is already 1 out shy of 90 IP this season? Didn't think so. And you think the Jays braintrust doesn't know baseball??? Jesus.....

    And for all we know, he had the green light and just didn't make the decision to go because he didn't have Jansen's timing down. No way the red light was on in that situation.

    It is at least somewhat interesting to wonder how a guy who was high level in Cleveland, an org that had churned out solid pitching consistently for years while he was there (and still has in his absence).... hasn't been able to replicate that system in Toronto, even now with the cutting edge sports complex and lab. Possible reasons: 1. Not a primary focus since he has far more resources here to make FA signings. (this would be a silly reason, but ... it's kind of a theme in teams with large payrolls) 2. Hasn't been able to poach all the right staff from other orgs yet for the system or the lab. (more plausible) 3. Just not drafting the "right" pitchers, aka scouting not very good combined with chronically low draft position and reduced # of picks. (definitely at least part of the story) 4. Perception of success only being developing an ace every other year (exaggeration for effect - also a factor) Thoughts?

    why would they project a bunch of .500 teams to do anything but play .500 ball ? Should get a monkey to post for you, it would be more interesting, and at least a full level of magnitude more insightful.

    Vlad almost always takes the 1st pitch automatically from relievers he sees. It's like a programmed part of his brain or something. It's rather irritating

    Yes, in general an improvement in LA would translate to more power in theory, but... LA is only 1 part of the barrel rate. Barrell rate also incLudes EV, and his avg EV is still 3rd percentile, which is probably strongly incluenced by his bottom 10 percentile swing speed. So, his LA is actualky pretty ok, butvhis barrel rate is garbage becasue he swings woth pool.noodle intent. He can square up and get a good laucnch angle 35% of the time all he wants (which is where he is now, and its above average) but until more of those swings are swung with more damage intent ... yeah 10 HRs over the season is probably even reaching. I don't even think his problem is getting his A swing off, the problem is his A swing is a regular players B or C swing. The question going forward is how much swing speed he can coached and/or bulked into without detrimentally impacting other underlying metrics.

    Certainly possible since team's generally only insure their higher earning guys. Vlad's? For sure it's insured. Cease? Pretty much guaranteed to be insured. they probably had Springer, Gausman and Berrios insured. Those premiums are not cheap though.

    1st in the Cy or second... Cease has had Cy Young caliber season. Whether he wins the award based on a few points of ERA is immaterial really. The two are as close in results as you can possibly be almost. There's no reason why Schlittler should clearly win, also no reason why Cease should clearly win. It's a 2-horse race and should be a split decision. For Cease though, finishing second in the Cy costs him 25 grand since his contract Cy bonus is 150k, 2nd place is 125k. Already banked 50k for the AS selection. NL Cy is much fun even though the Misiorowski dominance narrative is overblown. Chris Sanchez is right there with him and the race is certainly not as slam dunk as people would have you believe. Even Sale and Luzardo should be in the conversation though Sale's IP totals might cost him. Overall I'd still say the Miz wins, but dismissing everyone else to 2nd place just cuz 100mph is kinda silly.

    Vancouver is up 2-0 in the NWL Championship series, it's a best of 5 vs the Eugene Emeralds. Last nights game was won with a walk-off sac fly in the 10th. Their playoffs is where the first half winner plays the 2nd half winner. Vancouver was actually dead last in the league in the first half (27-39), Eugene being the first half winner. However, Vancouver came alive and was 2nd in the 2nd half (37-29) but again Eugene finished first by half a game, so Vancouver gets in as the 2nd half representative. First 2 games were in Van, last 3 games if needed are in Eugene.

    Santander's first rehab game in Buffalo, 0-4 with a K. At least he didn't die.

    Which I think is exactly what the plan was when he was acquired. I really don't think they acquired him with plans to chuck him into a starter's role or bulk-guy-after-the-opener down the stretch. Injuries forced it when he's not really ready for it. He's the kind of guy who will really suffer in a lockout situation since he absolutely needs to live in the lab in the offseason, but won't be able to if the players are locked out.

    For me, I enjoy sports for what it is... a nice distraction from life for a few hours. Oddly, I think knowing way more about the sport than the average fan actually makes it easier to let go of bad results most of the time. Yeah, it's frustrating watching a half-billion dollar dumbass play like a replacement level scrub, but I still have to go to work/school/practicum tomorrow whether he hits well or not, so ... his failures or successes, or team failures or successes really don't matter to my life. When this kind of thing bothers people to the point of screaming at clouds, just turn it off.

    As an opener for 2-ish innings... maybe. Gotta remember he pitched a grand total of 7.1 innings in all of 2024 and 8.2 in all of 2025. He's already pushing past 85 IP this year. The arm is likely getting pretty worn down. If they squeak in the playoffs he'll most certainly be on the playoff roster too. I really don't think they want to push him much past 100 IP.

    How many innings does he have left after spending all that time injured? If they want him as a starter it wont be until next season and it'll probably be in Buffalo to build up innings first.

    I mean, Schneider had to have been a decent defensive catcher since he couldn't hit for sh*t in the minors
