  1. something like Steven Matz got this year? 2/15 ?
  2. At the end of the days its immaterial really. I don't blame him for trying to get every cent given his age and his career arc. At the same time though, if he wants a bigger multi-year deal as a starter in 2027 and beyond, then he needs to just keep his head down and pitch his ass off when called upon. Like, what's the expected contract term and value for a 32 year old backend starter anyways?
  3. Your shriveled left testicle > Leo Jimenez
  4. Berrios All-Star nod and 5-10 in Cy Young voting coming up
  5. suffice to say that projections systems are going to have more difficulty with a guy like Lauer depending on their weighting of recent performance vs older performance when there is a large gap where he pitched elsewhere. Error bars are probably a bit more pronounced. I like Lauer as a backend guy, given he's more of a command guy than a stuff guy and his margin of error is much smaller. He's a guy that's going to ride the babip and HR rate roller coaster at the end of the day since doesn't walk a bunch of guys, and doesn't strike out a ton either.
  6. anyone have a stream going?
  7. He also played football in high school. Started as a tight end but ended up a wide receiver.
  8. 1.35 million is like what... 0.4% of their CBT. I get that ya cant just pay every guy whatever they demand just because they made the finals last season .. but it seems like this was a weird hill to go to battle over.
  9. Indeed. Then instead of "what if our 31-year old shitballing swingman demands a trade if he's not in the starting rotation from day 1 of the season" we could be consumed with "what if our near 35-year old shitballing swingman demands a trade if he's not in the starting rotation from day 1 of the season"
  10. Sure, they should care to the point where it might take away from the team's success like theyd care with any other player. At the same time, I do find it odd they would go to arb over a few hundred grand at this point when he's about to go into FA at the end of the year. It's not like that new number is going to make future arb deals more expensive since there are no more future arb deals.
  11. He was already DFA in December. Then went unclaimed, so he was outrighted to AAA. There's no option process involved. He's in AAA until his contract is either purchased again by the Jays again or traded. The way the Jays did this with timing was pretty smart. They DFA'd him a few days before the Rule 5 draft when teams were purging roster spots instead of adding. Plus, if they took him then, they'd be taking his entire salary commitment.
  12. That would be ideal. I don't care if a player is unhappy about his role if it ends up being reduced from the previous year and he did well in that role. That's a completely normal feeling to have. What matters is whether he lets that feeling change how he competes. Players should all be aware that 29 other teams see how well you perform. He's going into free agency after this season. It makes all the sense in the world to shut-up, pitch his ass off and make himself the most desireable asset he can for 2027.
  13. Term just tried too hard. It was a solid joke.
  14. I don't think that will be much of a problem. The practice they are all getting in ST with this and the rules laid down by management about who can challenge, what counts and situations you can challenge in etc... i doubt the 1st inning will be very high on the list of important situtations. Kirk will probably have the green light to do whatever he wants since he's a wizard.
  15. Phillies GM thought the deal was done with Bo. According to Dombrowski, Bo had said he would sign if the Phillies agreed to 7/200 ... they did, and he even called Realmuto's agent, who at that point hadn't signed yet, and he told him they were likely going in another direction. So, effectively they had an agreement in principle and just hadn't started signing paperwork before the Mets called with a dump truck full of cash. Story makes sense since Realmuto signed within a few hours of the Mets and Bo announcing their deal.
  16. Those kinds of infections always get you in the end.
  17. Jays no longer wanted him at SS? no s***. nobody else did either. In other news, water is wet.
  18. a Montreal franchise may be joining the Frontier League for 2027 or 2028. It's not guaranteed yet, but its apparently pretty close to being a done deal.
  19. Independent baseball leagues are reaping those benefits right now. Those players still have places to play. Atlantic league, Frontier league.. American Association have all expanded since 2020. Pioneer League, Appalachian league (former full affiliate leagues) are still active and are still partners with MLB. Virtually all of the teams from those leagues that were purged from being official MLB affiliates are still operational. Most of the teams in the NY Penn league are still affiliated as minor league teams, just in different leagues. Some went independent, Auburn joined the Perfect Game Collegiate summer league. Baseball is still fine and thriving in small town USA.
  20. 103.4 EV 26 Degree LA 431 feet. Wind blowing out a bit today? Still, that was a nice nuke.
  21. I hope so too. It's very much in-line with how poker decisions are made. You may know you're behind, but you still call knowing you only have to have it work out 25-30% of the time to be profitable in the long run. You're right though that this type of nuance will not be something most fans would even think about.
  22. Absolutely. Gonna be a Vardano statue outside the RC one day. Book it.
  23. That's how Spanky says hello.
  24. I don't think anyone said everything he has done was good. It's also not his job to handle Oakland and Tampa stadium deals. I think the trimming of the minor league teams was great. The bloatin at the very bottom end of the minors, specifically rookie level leagues was pretty bad. Nobody needed a complex team and 2 rookie level affiliates plus more DSL teams. Individual negatives aside, the game as a whole is in a much healthier and lucrative place for both the owners and the players since the start of his tenure, and fans are taking it in in greater numbers. For context, the same could be said for Selig... and he was the biggest, scum-sucking POS human to be commissioner. Manfred presents at least somewhat likeable.
  25. Manfred has done as good a job as can be expected really. As long as he doesnt lose games in 2027 his record is about as good as it gets
