Central has been dogshit for years now really. Occasionally a team pops out and wins 90 but usually it's 1 team that's good and beats up on 4 crap teams that inflates their Ws and they get blasted in the playoffs. That said, alot of talent is signing in the NL / signing with the Dodgers every offseason. That is also coinciding with the smaller market teams seeing the benefits of having seemingly 3 or 4 extra picks every year for the past 10 years and getting the young talent up at the same time.

Bieber... feels like old Yeller time for the season but ... his injury is just inflammation, nothing structural. Two weeks, likely a rehab start then maybe gets 1-2 more with the big club as the season winds down. A real decision is coming with Trey - if they don't think he can make it back for the end of the season they should probably shift him to the 60 day IL to make room for Guerra or Stanifer. Clase might be able to be shifted to the 60 day as he's dealing with plantar fasciitis which can take a long time to recover from... he's already been out just over a month. Urias ... that's a mystery card for now as it's a quad strain and he would be on track to come back in mid September if all goes well in rehab. Any setback and he might be 60 day IL Josh Smith will likely be back as soon as he is eligible or a few days later depending on how they want to manipulate the roster.

Do GM firings really wake up a team though? The manager ... sure, players spend every day with the guy but the GM? I doubt the players really care one way or the other.

And Seattle once, Can't lose that either. Realistically they have to see it like they can't lose any series the rest of the way unless they toss a sweep or two in there.

This most interesting part about this... yesterday Brown was interviewed somewhere and said straight up how great it was working for Crane and how he felt like it was a great place for him. Next day? Hit the bricks champ. He was a lame duck GM anyways but ... the timing of the firing is just dumb. There's no trades left, all the GM duties there are now till the end of the season is deciding on any applicable DFAs, callups etc and hopefully nailing down a post-season roster. Just wait till the season is over and his contract is up and announce you're not renewing it. Now Crane himself is taking over baseball ops till a new GM is found, there's not even an interim GM. Espada is probably just waiting for the axe to fall too since his contract is up at the end of the season.
