    I guess if you truly believe that Aaron Sanchez will become a legitimate #2 in a quality rotation, it's not a good idea. I can't help but think that landing Shark with an extension for Sanchez plus a lower level B prospect would help propel this rotation. Look, I get it. I don't like the direction this team is headed in either. I'd rather blow it up and take on prospects too for guys like Bautista, Reyes and Edwin. I just don't see AA going the Miami Marlins route a year and a half after he was on the other end of the deal. Shark, along with healthy years from the entire staff and position players, and I do believe the team is close. Also, Sanchez for Shark is nowhere near the same as Wil Myers for Shields, or the raping he'll give another team when he trades Price.

    I'm not against acquiring him. If the price was Sanchez + a lesser piece I think it would be worth it. Realistically, if Sanchez became what Shark is, most people would be ecstatic. He shouldn't be considered depth either, as the only innings he should throw would be in September. Keep Stroman, he's viable depth. Dickey Shark Morrow Mark Happ Stroman Hutch Rogers It's realistic, and about as best as we're going to do IMO.

    Great, out depth can lead us out of the bottom of the AL East! All I'm saying is all the depth in the world doesn't matter if it isn't supplemented properly. Guys like Romero and Drabek are hardly depth, and if we're counting on Richmond to step in when Morrow goes down, we're in very big trouble. Yes, I realize everything is hypothetical. But if we were the Red Sox, everyone would be sitting here bashing their rotation, talking about what shambles it's in, and how they have no depth. I'm just playing devil's advocate.

    Realistically, would you be comfortable on betting on him to provide 180 innings?

    Depth means f*** all if the starting 5 aren't very good. I'm expecting a rebound year from Dickey, Mark B to do his same old thing, and other than that there are 3 other spots to fill. Not sure about you, but all the depth in the world doesn't save a rotation like that.

    Exactly. If we're going to roll into the season with Dickey, Morrow, McGowan, Jeffress and Happ which was suggested earlier, who cares what our depth is?

    Who gives a s*** if you have the best depth in the league if there is nothing on top? Pretty pointless if you ask me.

    Just because you can list a whole bunch of names, doesn't quantify them as the best depth in the league. Depth of guys who are all #4-5 and swingman type pitchers really isn't that big of a deal.

    So the Red Sox are worse because they lost Ellsbury, and the Yankees aren't any better because they added Ellsbury, because they're banking on continued performance? Right.

    Saunders is interesting, Montero is JPA with a bat. Ackley/Franklin would be real nice. I guess if you're dumb enough to overbid by 70 million for Cano you just might overpay for saves. Creates a logjam in the OF, but 2015 looks bleak anyhow. PLUS HE'S CANADIAN! MARKETABILITY!

    I really don't see the need to. If AA can sign Garza, it is definitely better than trading Sanchez/Stroman. Hutch the first call when someone inevitably goes down. Dickey Garza MB Morrow Happ/Esmil/Nolin Stroman addition at AS break So much depends on Morrow staying healthy and making 25+ starts. If you could substitute the 5 spot with Hutch, and have Happ/Esmil/Nolin/Stroman as depth, with Sanchez still on the farm, it has the potential to keep us in games. I know thats not what people want to hear, but it's realistic. Absolutely need to add one more starter, whether its Garza or Tanaka (ya right).

    Weight lifting doesn't stunt growth. That's a myth spewed by uninformed individuals. Although at a young age, kids should focus on resistance training and less on trying to become "big". Technique first, and then weight. Slow and steady wins the race.

    Not the MLB per se, but the Jays I was referring to. If Darvish is worth 110, I'm assuming we will see roughly the same for Tanaka (because of hype, and Darvish's success). 5/75?

    Bidding, and being serious about a contract will be two different things. What's he worth? 5/70?

    That's easy to do when you're one of the best franchises in the MLB. I'm sure it wouldn't have been that easy for AA to lure Ellis here. I'm not disagreeing he should've been a target, but this isn't takeout where you just call and order what you want and pick it up.

    Sadly, probably true. FFS if he can't add one #2 at least, there is virtually no point in trying to compete. Blow it up. I have confidence in a guy like Hutch, but who knows how many innings he can realistically throw. Until I see Drabek throw strikes at the ML level I see no reason to believe he can start, Morrow is glass and Happ is Happ. Watch our pen get taxed this year, and all of our ace relievers get injured because of the workload.

    Does this give the Jays a better chance? It seemed evident AA would never put an aggressive posting bid in, but now that it's only 20 million to negotiate, he should be inclined to at least bid that and give himself a chance. Teams that are close to the luxury tax may shy away, since I'm assuming a larger AAV will be given to players. Probably just all wishful thinking on my part.
