  1. Common sense says that people don't make lengthy, multi-million dollar contract offers to people that they sincerely don't want to employ You're a strange person. But, maybe you're right. I'm not so arrogant that I won't admit that.
  2. If Toronto thought it was a net zero move, why would they do it?
  3. You can dislike a guy as captain of the ship but still appreciate his limited talents. Baseball in general is moving towards recognizing the significant value of investing in front offices. This is just Friedman padding his organizational depth in another area. Nobody would deny AA's skills as a talker, an extrovert, a people person, a negotiator, a guy who gets things done, etc.
  4. IMO it's hard to "pretty much fire" someone whose contract of employment has expired. Perhaps they made a decision to not offer him a contract, and the public expressions about a five year offer being rejected came from a mutual agreement by the parties, so that: a) the organization would gain a public relations benefit from apparently having offered a popular executive a lengthy contract to stay, and Anthopoulos would gain the within industry benefit of apparently making a powerful personal decision to refuse the offer (rather than the reality of having not been offered a deal). I think that's hard to swallow. It takes a lot of assumptions. For one thing, I don't think Shapiro would care all that much about the PR benefit of a fake offer and rejection, because fans would still be mad that AA left and in any event fans tend to get over things like that pretty quickly (coaching / executive changes). Also, I think the "AA saving face" angle is a bit flawed because something like that would be pretty transparent within the industry. These people all talk, and all have webs of contacts within other organizations. So that leads me to believe that they really did make an offer to AA that he rejected. And I suppose it is possible that they made an offer while hoping that he would reject it, but again, this seems unlikely to me. I doubt they would risk him accepting for significant money if they sincerely wanted him to leave. IMO, Shapiro sincerely wanted AA to stay as the nominal GM. Shapiro sincerely offered him a contract. Both parties realized that it would be an arguable role reduction, and perhaps Shapiro also told AA about plans to bring in Ross Atkins in some sort of almost parallel role. I think AA chose to reject it for this reason (reduced autonomy) and/or relationship reasons (just flat out doesn't like Shapiro or Ed Rogers or whoever). I think if we act like rational, reasonable, well-adjusted people, and follow the breadcrumbs of logic, this is where we end up.
  5. It was a family based decision. Had to think about his wife and kids when he decided to turn down a very stable situation in his home country and uproot them all so he could take a demotion in California.
  6. Did everyone actually get my mass email?
  7. that's my junkmail account, had it since grade 2 for some reason proboards stopped supporting mass-emails from Yahoo accounts so I had to switch my connected
  8. Thanks, cleared it. Everyone should send SVG a message on PB / email expressing how happy you are that he isn't leaving
  9. I contacted silvergun through email and we exchanged some messages. A few other people also contacted him independently. He's not leaving the DDL. Basically, he rage-quit the message board because it sucks and in a fit of fury he lumped the league in with the board, since it's a board league. But in the light of day he realized that he could not leave the DDL. It's just too good. He is done with the message board though. He made a ProBoards post in the Chat thread about all of this. So I'll take this opportunity to say that while this thread has a lot of utility, the official spaces for the DDL are ProBoards and Yahoo. I encourage everyone to update their trade blocks on ProBoards. Any official league polls or announcements happen through ProBoards, Yahoo, or email. We have a few members now that basically don't post on BJMB. Jaysblue hasn't been around in forever, for one. Torontofan and Gibbers barely post at all. FTD is MIA (but that's a bit different). On the subject of co-managers, they remain frowned upon. I think they can be more annoying than helpful. I do recognize the usefulness of temporary supports like such as GD for North right now, though.
  10. We aren't moving forward with anything at the moment. I'll talk to silvergun via email and try to get to the bottom of things. #1 priority is retaining silvergun
  11. How many bbdl members do we even have involved as co-managers? I would root and and destroy the presence of all of them if it meant keeping silvergun, who is a pillar of the DDL community.
  12. Co-managers are now illegal in the DDL. Existing ones may or may not be grandfathered.
  13. Name 1 person on this message board that hasn't been trolled so hard by me that they spat out their milk
  14. Bad year to do it with the loonie being so floppy
  15. The trade works because of team need. Pompey is probably at least as good as Revere. And despite rumours to the contrary, Michael Saunders is still literally alive (he might not be kicking, though). Storen completes the back end of the bullpen well. Now there are two good RHP in him and Osuna and two good LHP in Cecil and Loup. It bumps someone like Biagini/Schultz/Tepera who are probably replacement level. It also increases the ability to maybe stretch out Sanchez or Osuna, which may or may not be good. Since Washington matched salaries, arguably the teams gets a bit better without increasing payroll. Revere is an interesting case study in past WAR vs. expected WAR though. He has been a league average OF consistently and he has two years of control left. In theory, he should be worth more than 1 year of Storen. But WAR is a descriptive stat, not a predictive one. There are legitimate concerns that Revere's skill set has changed a bit since the past descriptive results. He may be more of a poor LF now defensively than a decent CF. He also doesn't have a "robust" skill-set in any sense of the word, having maxed out his physical tools in the past to only achieve ~2 win results. Obviously Toronto doesn't see Revere as a rock solid 2 win LF going forward. It will be interesting to see how he does in the next two years. The Nori Aoki situation from this winter kind of tells us that teams don't value corner outfielders like this (no pop, mediocre D) very much.
  16. I like this trade because it makes BTS look stupid
  17. Halladay is the best. Clemens essentially makes something up, for all intensive porpoises, in order to hit back. Doc is squeaky clean and everyone knows it. Guy is a frigging Mormon. dum dum dum dum dum
  18. It's not my fault that the sport is in decline, you big poof
  19. The Iginla / Doan auction is over. Almost no bids were received. I decided that the two for 1 offer was better since the player coming back (Kevin Hayes) actually has real keeper value. A steal for GD for his championship run. The rest of you were asleep at the wheel. Have a good season. Never invite me to a fantasy hockey league again, plz.
  20. poofs get poofed
  21. I may have been looking at last year Anyway Doan would be like 5th
  22. oh one of those types
  23. Well then you are dumn Iginla's st. dev. is better than all but four of your skaters, lolololol
  24. Still the top offers ^ Very little interest in Iginla and Doan. Kind of surprising. I know they are old but they are first line PP guys that are putting up points. Must not be very many teams going for it this year.
