  1. I've never watched Nicolino pitch, but it must be exceedingly weird. Nicolino in Miami might be the most TTO averse pitcher of our generation. If you set the min IP to 70 and look at every pitcher in the last 25 years, only one guy has a lower TTO/9 (add up BB/9, K/9, and HR/9) than Nicolino. Nicolino's is 6.20.... Bob Tewksbury. 31.3 career fWAR. 6.09 TTO/9. No relation to Bobby Tewksbary, Donaldson's hitting coach guy.
  2. Wow, DeSclafani had 3.2 fWAR last year... that hurts. I knew he was productive but didn't realize he was that good.
  3. I think he'll just have 2B/OF. Of course, he has a realistic chance of gaining CF/3B/1B/SS in any given season, depending on where he signs and who gets hurt on that team.
  4. I'm in a tradey mood again. If anyone has 2B needs, I could move Walker or Zobrist for fair value.
  5. In terms of comparing Happ and Estrada's contracts to the market, we saw a bit of the low end of the SP market today too with Pelfrey getting 2/$16. The remaining SP to watch are: Kazmir (obviously better than Happ/Estrada so should get more) Iwakuma (obviously better) Kennedy (slightly better or the same) Latos (slightly worse than both?) Fister (worse)
  6. Rumours are that Loria hates Ozuna and he will be traded this offseason
  7. Especially those poor minor leaguers...
  8. Overarching Mandate - leave Stanton alone Assignment #1 - unlock that Yelich power
  9. Revenues have reportedly increased a lot more than player salaries in the last couple of decades.
  10. They also lose pick #13, which has substantial value (over $15M).
  11. Rough value ^^^
  12. His chin regressed in on itself and created a singularity, absorbing him from the Earth and erasing him from existence along all dimensions of space and time. You can say that he busted.
  13. Yeah Arizona turned things around pretty fast. They used to look really good and headed in the right direction, then Kevin Towers kind of steered the ship straight downwards with a series of dogshit moves. But the emergence of guys like Pollock and David Peralta have helped them float back up quickly. And Enciarte and they have an entire outfield that kind of came out of nowhere. I also personally like Lamb and Castillo and I see the usefulness of Ahmed. That right there + Goldy is 7 positions filled. (Tomas/2B suck). On the pitching side, Corbin is obviously good and healthy again and I am personally partial to all three of Ray, Anderson, and De La Rosa. Greinke gives them a classic SP1->SP5. And they always seem to be dripping with good controllable bullpen arms. They will be good!
  14. I'm getting there. I don't like to ignore people just because I think they are kind of dumb and I disagree with them a lot. I will ignore anyone who is dumb and exceedingly indignant, though. I mean, I thought Greenwood was dumb and I disagreed with him a lot for like, years. Now he's the board MVP.
  15. His OPSBI on Saturday day games was terribad
  16. Stop posting.
  17. No, it's not. When your sample size is limited you don't just accept it as truth because that's all you have - you regress to the mean heavily.
  18. sample size of 85 plate appearances lol that article needs to DIAF it's only possible use is as inspiration for doing a proper WOWY on whether or not Dickey actually makes his catchers suck at hitting. Even if he does, it strikes me as more likely to be a timing thing than an injury thing. Catching the knuckleball could maybe mess up your timing for hitting. And if that's the case then you still might as well throw Martin out there because he's your best defensive catcher.
  19. When you're paying $82M for the services of a catcher in his mid 30's, you f***ing ride him into the ground. Russell Martin should be begging for retirement and reaching for a cane at the end of 2019. And hopefully with a smile on his face, since he'll have a bunch of rings by then.
  20. 1) I don't really care about Martin possibly jamming his thumb. Catching is a tough job, period. Martin is a thick, hairy Canadian dude. He can manage. 2) Even if Dickey does significantly increase Martin's injury risk, the sensible solution to that problem would be to get rid of Dickey. Categorically benching an $82M investment for a bag of s*** like Thole is retarded.
  21. I don't even really think framing numbers would have much to do with being able to handle Dickey. It's not the same skill. Only a small influence since you probably need soft hands to do both things very well. Personally, I think Martin is fine catching Dickey. Sure you want a backup that can probably handle Dickey so they can share the knuckleball load, but you don't need a backup who can be a personal caddy to RA and catch 33 games. Martin's offensive numbers in a 21 game split catching Dickey are virtually meaningless, by the way.
  22. Well someone like Terry Ryan would probably fire you if you mentioned WAR. They may not all use VORP or WAR or WARP or whatever they call it but those concepts are still exactly what every team is trying to buy, even if they don't explicitly think about it that way.
