  1. Get your maple boners ready, would replacing the $15 million Melky with the $3 million Saunders be a good move, and what would it take to land him.... From mlbtr: In a lengthy and interesting piece, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times looks at the potentially fractured relationship between the Mariners and Michael Saunders following some comments made by GM Jack Zduriencik at an end-of-season press conference. Asked at the time what he felt about Saunders’ future with the team, Zduriencik said, “…It’s up to Michael. … He was playing well, got hurt, came back, got sick, came back again and did some nice things. But I think what Michael has to do and has to answer this to himself, is ‘how do I prepare myself to play as many games through the course of 162 that I can possibly play without being setback by injury.’ … some of these things need to be handled from a maintenance standpoint where he put himself in a position where he’s able to compete through the course of the season.” Divish spoke to Saunders himself, who declined to comment on the situation. Saunders’ agent, Michael McCann, said it was both “shocking” and “very disappointing.” Said McCann: “These comments don’t reflect Michael Saunders’ work habits. They imply that that he’s lackadaisical.” Part of the trouble, Divish writes, is that Saunders had never before had his work ethic or preparation questioned by the Mariners, and to have that done in a public forum was hurtful. Zduriencik clarified that the comments he made could be applied to any player, and he was adamant to Divish that the organization is not planning on moving on from Saunders. However, he has previously identified corner outfield as a potential area to add some offense. Divish speculates on an offseason trade, though he also notes that even if Saunders is pushed to the role of fourth outfielder, his low salary (he should earn less than $3MM via arbitration) would be an acceptable price for that role, especially given his upside. Over the past three seasons, the former top prospect has batted .248/.320/.423 with 39 homers and 38 steals. I should note that Divish’s entire piece is well worth the read, as this brief write-up doesn’t capture nearly all of the quotes and information he compiled.
  2. He also said he is here for as long as Rogers wants him here. Sigh.
  3. 1.Max Scherzer (Houston) 2.Jon Lester (Cubs) 3.James Shields (Red Sox) 4.Hanley Ramirez (Dodgers) 5.Pablo Sandoval (Yankees) 6.Victor Martinez (Tigers) 7.Yasmani Tomas (Yankees) 8.Melky Cabrera (Mets) 9.Russell Martin (Pirates) 10.Nelson Cruz (Orioles)
  4. I'd rather not waste 2 positions on a platoon DH when the position can be used to give players a rest from the turf.
  5. My top 3 reasons: 1)Shockingly bad defence at the most important defensive position on the field, SS. 2) shockingly bad defence at the 2nd and 3rd most important positions on the field, cf Colby and catcher. 3) making up for shockingly bad defence with all defense no bat players like Gose and Goins which somehow still improved the team in my opinion. Reasons we will fail in 2015: 1) see above 2)see above regarding catcher 3)see above. Go for 22 years next year?
  6. I thought that was fake Wilner, but nope, the real deal. Also, I'm certain one of you posters is fake Wilner, right?
  7. Cito got two runs at manager, so did gibbons. LETS BRING BUCK FOR A SECOND GO!
  8. Until the last two weeks I liked his decisions, but I'm starting to wonder about the behind the scenes stuff in the clubhouse. I feel he has had his chances now, time to move on.
  9. I'd add that to the poll, but pretty sure it would get 100% of the vote....though I do care at this point cause I'm now counting down to the offseason.
  10. I'm curious if this will be unanimous. I feel he should be fired the day the season ends. And I know you're all going to say fire AA and beeston...but let's just vote on Gibbons in this thread.
  11. Close it, burn it, and pretend it never existed. I'm glad the players will most likely get to watch the O's celebrate to. Hopefully it will make their terrible August burn a little deeper all off season when they see what could have been.
  12. I think it's safe to stop watching the scoreboards.
  13. I'm hoping melky just takes the qualifying offer. A long term deal scares me. Let him play year to year.
  14. I think I got to disagree with you on this one eh. This team acts like they're the best in the world and in my opinion could use a player who teaches them to shut their mouths and save the celebrations for when they actually accomplish something. And as for defence and walks don't win you games...after reading that I realized you are likely trolling and I just got suckered.
  15. KC is our best shot at the wild card, we need to take 3 of 4 minimum against Seattle and let KC implode. Detroit can win the central.
  16. I fnd this hard to believe but if true then Colby Rasmus is a serious waste. Wasted talent already and doesn't realize how good he has it. His only excuse is if his wife is due immenintly, even then part of playing mlb and making millions is making family sacrifices, suck it up and take 3 days off for paternity leave then spend the offseason with family, then move your family to whatever team is dumb enough to sign him.
  17. I wonder if a deal of Sanchez or Norris could be made for one of the cubs hitting prospects. Unlikely.
  18. I can kind of see the resemblance, I was thinking halladay with the way his pitches were moving in multiple directions last night.
  19. I pvr most jays games and can rarely watch live...with mlbtv it would flag scoring plays on the bottom, correct? For me this would drive me nuts as i wouldn't want to know when runs are going to score, it would ruin every game.
  20. Wtf! Thanks
  21. When did this happen?
  22. Completely agree. I'll take a one year 14 mil deal or the pick. A 4-5 year deal is crazy talk.
  23. I have given up as well...however, if they can jump over New York and cleavland who they're half a game back of in the next few days I might gain some hope back. 4.5 games back is doable, but the amount of teams in front is the problem. A 10 game winning streak would do wonders right now.
  24. Love baseball, watched a lot of s***** blue jays baseball for the last twenty years...but the last 2 years are breaking me. I only managed to miss about 1 weeks worth of games though...and I'll be back watching tomorrow.
  25. Surprised Drabek isn't given a chance to see if he's an option for the pen next year. Also, I wonder if Nolin will be given more then one inning to show his stuff. With these call ups I guess I might have to start watching again, f***in jays always pull me back.
