  1. That is an incredibly cringe-worth lineup.
  2. I think word was that he has a problem with his knees, and it's not treatable. My suspicion is that he's overcompensating with his arm, and that's causing him to lose command.
  3. I'm not sure where to get wRC+ for minor league splits, but I find this interesting: (numbers from 2010->2013, vs righties / lefties) 2010: .285, .346, .385 / .217, .296, .261 2011: .290, .338, .424 / .266, .346, .351 2012: .299, .349, .412 / .265, .326, .381 2013: .287, .342, .399 / .205, .237, .295 Goins numbers vs righties during the last 4 years are incredibly consistent. Maybe he'll hit lefties well enough, maybe he won't, but his bat would appear to be a legit play vs righties. Maybe you play Izzy vs lefties and end up with an effective platoon at a decent price.
  4. I think most of us expect him to bomb, but he's untradeable right now so we might as well hope for a miracle. Not like these remaining games really mean a lot for us anyway.
  5. He doesn't have options left. He'll be on this team next year, but whether it's as a starter, long man, or regular reliever who knows. If we do in fact decide to fill that 5th starter spot from within and Dustin is healthy coming out of spring, why not give it to him. If he goes down you call up someone else (Stroman, Drabek, etc). We should have decent depth next year. It's very important to get a high end arm for the top of the rotation if we do this however.
  6. I don't think anyone (or almost anyone) is saying anything about him deserving to be here next year based on his bat in the first 9 games. They're saying he deserves to be considered based on his glove if we can't get a clear upgrade to Izzy (to what Izzy should be doing) in the off-season, and are hoping he can hit enough not to be a liability (perhaps in the 80 to 85 wRC+ range, with the major league average this year for 2nd baseman 90). Really, his only issue this year in AAA was poor results against lefties, and he handled them okay in 2012 and 2011 so there's some hope there. If worse comes to worse, play Izzy against lefties and Goins against righties. As for age, I don't care one little bit if he's 25. I care only about whether he can help the team or not. With all that said, I want a clear upgrade at 2nd with Goins starting the season in the minors.
  7. I really have no issue going with a glove first guy at second, as long as we address starting pitching and catcher. If we don't, we had better get someone at 2nd who can also hit.
  8. It's a VERY good thing. Guys with his stuff shouldn't be trying to nibble or paint the black anyway imo.
  9. Could always do something like a significant bonus for getting the first home run correct, or perhaps all home runs after the first are only worth 1 point. The nice thing is that you still have something extra to cheer for throughout the season rather than someone hitting one in the first and you're done.
  10. I like how Goins charges the ball and doesn't sit back risking a bad hop.
  11. And no Lind or JPA today also really leaves too little power lol.
  12. The problem is, who is this available upgrade (assuming we can't realistically afford Cano)? Infante is really the only other name that sticks out to me from the free agent list. Maybe Ellis or Punto, but I'm not sure either would out perform what would be reasonable to expect from Izzy (ie, not what he's done this year). The trade front isn't wonderful either unless the Rays decided to promote Beckham or Hak-Ju Lee and trade Zobrist. Howie Kendrick perhaps would also be in play. Aside from that, you're basically looking at either Ackley or Espinoza.
  13. On the bubble would be an improvement for me!
  14. You need to tone it down a little. If someone doesn't understand a stat (and isn't just trying to stir up trouble), try explaining it to them so they learn something.
  15. I guess it's possible, but we'd basically be substituting one guy who can't hit lefties for another (and pay more to do so).
  16. I THINK in league 3 the deadline was 3am est, but it may be different for you.
  17. Alomar with 3 and Sandberg with 2 in that first one. Rough game to be an elite 2nd baseman.
  18. This lack of ability to bunt is getting stupid.
  19. He kind of reminds me of Orlando Hudson as well on defense, and definitely more like Alomar on turning the DP. It's especially impressive since he basically hasn't played on the turf before and has only played a handful of games at 2nd in the minors.
  20. I think it's all about command right now for JJ. His HR/FB rate is just stupid right now and probably a bit unlucky, but one number that really jumps out for me is the drop in percentage of pitches thrown for strikes the last two years.
  21. JFaS, I think Thole is 1.25M next year, and Kawasaki is 750k. Kirksaw, yeah I don't know if Garza at 12M is a possibility or not, but it's 2 years in a row now where he's had some injury issues and I think that could weigh down his salary a little. If not him, could go with JJ there.
