  1. Doesn't matter. The Jays would control him for 4 years. They can simply pay him the min next year, then take him to arbitration for the following 3 years if Boras wants to be an idiot.
  2. That would be rather intriguing wouldn't it, especially if Buehrle has quietly asked for a trade. Brown + Lee would be a good fit (even better if we could pawn Brown off for something good like a young starter from the Cards).
  3. Rosenthal is guessing, suggesting simply that it makes sense for Boston.
  4. Says the person who earlier posted breaking news tweets that came from a fake account...
  5. There's no question Sanchez has higher upside, but I think Stroman is far more likely to reach his potential. I also like the fact he's had to constantly prove himself. Sanchez may also fetch a higher return.
  6. How did Jose Molina do, since he often seems to be one of the leaders?
  7. I'm not so sure he is overall (or at least wouldn't be with a full time instructor on the staff). Regardless, his stubbornness with the bat and especially the antics when people criticized him this year make me want him gone.
  8. Some interesting tidbits from AA (more than just Cano) http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-wont-budge-club-policy-for-cano/ In particular, that affordability of any free agents isn't a question, but rather if they like the player at that price. Also, that demand for their relievers has been high (inquiries on at least 10 relievers). Kawasaki is weighing offers from several Japanese teams, but AA is hopeful of retaining him.
  9. I'd say the fact that no one knows who made the offer is a really good sign that it might BE us.
  10. It doesn't make much difference for us regardless. Cano would be nice, but it just isn't happening. The Yankees will blow everyone out of the water on Tanaka assuming they still want to get under the luxury tax threshhold this year. It's basically a no brainer for them to bid high on him. Ellsbury isn't a need for us and will likely get a contract someone regrets sooner rather than later. Garza isn't the pitcher we need right now, and Santana is a bad fit in our division.
  11. I have to wonder if catcher might be the fix via trade (maybe someone like Jason Castro?)
  12. Yeah, I was thinking more like 2/16. He's probably worth it, but still... I wonder what this will do to inflate what McCann gets?
  13. I like Law's take on this deal:

Try to trade him before they realize he's injured lol
  15. I think he actually has more value than that (which I've said for a while now). He alone certainly isn't going to land us a good starting pitcher or anything, but I could see him being a non-trivial piece in a deal for one.
  16. 5th paragraph
  17. Even better might be that there was trade interest from other teams regarding JPA.
  18. His velocity has dropped slightly, but he also started throwing cutters the last 2 years which are likely impacting his average fastball velocity (pitchfx etc has difficulty differentiating between the two for most pitchers). He's still hitting 96, so it's not like his velocity is hurting that bad. I agree that he doesn't go as deep as he should, but at least he is durable.
  19. I wonder exactly how that spam detection software works anyhow.
  20. He's posted an xFIP of 3.71 or under in 4 of the last 5 years and an ERA under 3.5 in 3 of the last 5 years. He's posted 3.2 WAR or higher in 5 of the last 6 years. I think he has a chance to be a lot better than you're giving him credit for. It's a risky move, and he certainly isn't an ace, but I'd be quite happy with 4 years at 12 to 14 per.

Horrible to see that happen, but it'll sure help me in my matchup against Cat's Asses this week.
  22. Even more than that I'd say it's a good thing. Any rumors we hear involving the Jays at this stage are probably bogus. No rumors leaked probably speaks more to AA being busy than anything.
  23. It's all SSS, but last year vs lefties Lind had a -56 wRC+ at home and a 131 wRC+ on the road. In all reality though, it seemed to me that most of Lind's struggles against lefties came with the relievers more so than the starters.
  24. It'll be very interesting to see what they do on a few players. Lind, Rasmus, Melky, possibly Morrow, Happ are all guys who I could see possibly being moved if some money needed to be freed up. Maybe if they're taking back a bigger salary they can even offload Romero.
  25. the 21st century version of coal... With our luck, Boni will probably put up 3+ war next year and everyone will be crying about how we let him go.
