  1. Castro would be fantastic (although incredibly unlikely).
  2. If we are in on him, I could definitely see the deal expanding.
  3. Let's all thank the Rockies for making the Yankees pay more!
  4. could be 5/80 plus some options
  5. In many ways, they'd probably be better off going after Russell Martin next off-season.
  6. A catcher like McCann hitting in that stadium is just unfair lol. I wonder how it will affect the Yankees getting under the cap?
  7. We don't need any spots filled in Buffalo (for once). More generally though, I do think that teams should take a shot on some guy late in the draft who has excellent pitchability but without major league stuff, and develop them strictly as a knuckleballer.
  8. Nah, they link to blogs and stuff all the time. This is one of their latest: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/baseball-blogs-weigh-in-fielder-tigers-kinsler-miller.html
  9. Yeah, got confused on how that was set up. You quoted me before I could delete the post lol
  10. Cool! The tables should be converted to html though to make them visible to the search engines and easier to read. You should submit the links for these things to MLBTR as they're published. That would increase the number of visitors to the site by a ton.
  11. The team dramatically underperformed last year, so it's reasonable to assume that a fair amount of those wins are made up with average performances across the board (JFaS posted in another thread what the projections for our team are for next season with replacement level players at 2nd, catcher, and SP, and I believe it was something like 86 games). Replacing JPA with Hanigan should be a cheap improvement at catcher and wouldn't likely cost a top prospect. There's been some talk that Porcello might be easily obtainable (Detroit needs bullpen help and we're overloaded there). He'd provide us with solid innings and definitely has some big upside if things click. That would leave us with 2b and one SP. There's a number of trade candidates for 2b that should come fairly cheap, and we should have enough money remaining to fill the final SP slot from FA.
  12. That sounds about right, but probably closer to 8 WAR over the 4 years. I have no idea if Reyes would fetch a pitcher or not, but it would certainly be a good way to cover two holes at no extra cost.
  13. He's been all over the place in batting average, but he's probably worth it (at least at 4/52). You have to wonder about something like signing Peralta, then trading Reyes to the Cards for a pitcher + Wong or something.
  14. Can we also get a button to ignore a thread? j/k
  15. I don't like thread title modifying unless it's to fix a spelling error or remove something offensive (or if the OP asks for it to be). I do like the thread merging though.
  16. I think the biggest issue is no real way to tell the reason why a player had a down year. Was it due to a lingering injury that will completely clear up in the off-season, or was it due to age or chronic injury? For example, if a pitcher breaks his leg, I'm not going to worry about it affecting his stuff the next year or suddenly suggest that he'll only throw 150 innings instead of 200 the next year. If he has shoulder problems, I definitely am. Since many injuries are never reported to the public (and sometimes not even to the trainers!), it's impossible to really include that data.
  17. I meant that I think Jay is underrated as a player, not specifically as a center fielder or with the Cards. Someone will trade for him and move him into left field and get a very nice player out of the deal.
  18. Maybe it's just me, but Jay seems very underrated.
  19. I don't know, Dietrich could be rather interesting (especially if the Marlins would have let him properly bake in the minors instead of promoting him after a handful of games in AA).
  20. You have to find the right fit for both teams though, which is why it worked for the Rangers and Tigers. If we wanted to do this with Buehrle, the analogy would probably have to be with the Angels for Pujols or Hamilton or something (and I'd rather have two more years of Buehrle than either of them).
  21. I know Halladay had/has a knuckle curve, but I'm not 100% sure if he was the guy who abandoned it because he couldn't throw strikes with it or not.
  22. I haven't looked at the numbers, but I would think it would have been more from swings. In the MLB Halladay originally had that big knuckle curve, which if I remember right he overhauled because it was so hard to throw for strikes that people were just laying off it. I kind of doubt that minor leaguers would have laid off it.
  23. If that's true, the equivalent of 18M / year for Prince is a hell of a lot better than 24M. They'll probably get reasonable value on that. On the flip side, Detroit paying the equivalent of 22M / year for Kinsler isn't quite as favorable.
  24. Wow, didn't expect THAT. In other news, Miggy's defensive value just went up.
  25. Well, among qualified 1st baseman last year, there was only one (Napoli at 0.3)
