  1. I have no idea if it's true or not, but people do incredibly stupid things all the time. Players stealing stuff out of teammates lockers for example. Just because it doesn't make sense to a rationally thinking person doesn't mean it didn't happen. Anyhow, my point is that if he was actively participating in encouraging or helping others to cheat as well, then MLB should absolutely nail him with everything they possibly can. If he was just a regular user like the others appear to be, then Selig needs to just give him the same fine and stop being an idiot.
  2. I think something like 4/40 would be fair. That would still make him a FA at age 31 for a big payday if his numbers stabilize nicely, and the team could presumably backload the contract to help for this year and next year's payroll issues. Maybe something like 5,5,15,15
  3. He made 4.675M last year and is coming off a 4.8 WAR season. He'll get a hell of a lot more than 5M in arbitration.
  4. No kidding!
  5. For me, it depends on exactly what A-Rod's involvement with the clinic was. If he really was some kind of partner and was actively recruiting players to the clinic (which I think I recall was suggested at one point) after MLB's policy was in effect, then I don't blame them one bit for trying to get him banned for as long a period as possible. If they're just trying to make an example of him and his level of involvement is the same as the other guys who got 50 to 65 games, then I hope A-Rod wins the appeal. Not to mention, I love the idea of the Yankees having to pay him as much of his salary as possible
  6. Looks like some more fun in the A-Rod case. Looks like they're afraid of having him testify or he could get an even longer suspension... http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/9978742/alex-rodriguez-flu-not-interview-mlb-friday
  7. Regarding Hanigan :
  8. a few more:
  9. one regarding Stroman (kind of interesting since KLAW doesn't like him as a starter overly):
  10. Here's another good one:
  11. Keith Law chat going on right now. Some highlights:
  12. Actually, I quite like this signing. Literally no downside since it's a minor league deal.
  13. Izzy should be easy to trade at 3M. He's basically a 1 to 2 WAR player with average to slightly above average defense when not on the carpet. We shouldn't have to eat any salary.
  14. Really no reason to keep Izzy either. I'm sure he'll bounce back some, but he never did look comfortable defensively on the carpet. Just sign Kawasaki again and save the extra 2M. I'm sure there's quite a few teams that would give us something for him.
  15. I think a lot of us weren't comfortable with the idea of Gio. I seem to recall a lot of people being upset we didn't get Latos though.
  16. BTS is basically saying that we should be shipping off guys like Bautista for good young talent as they near the end of their contracts, rather than trying to acquire guys near the end of their contracts.
  17. I don't think they'd do it. Remember also that they'll be paying out a pretty good amount soon for the new team complex in Florida too.
  18. I'm not sure the Yankees have much in the way of young assets to drive up any costs via trade. If they did manage to get someone, it would probably empty what's left of their system.
  19. He can't leave no trace though. It would be a piece of cake to get some balls from each year off the internet and analyze them to see if anything is different.
  20. This tweet is a little disturbing
  21. Then he'll strike out on a pitch in the dirt, and get an even bigger one.
  22. No one can figure out why the Yankees didn't pony up for Martin either. Either there's something we don't know about, or a lot of teams screwed the pooch on that one.
  23. Overall it really is an interesting issue we have. Considering the years of control several of our highly desirable guys have, we really could blow it up and end up with a massive haul of guys all basically major league ready. I'm not sure how realistic some of these are (and I know we aren't going to blow it up), but Reyes + Rasmus + 1/2 salary to Cards for Tavares and Miller. Bautista and reliever to Texas for Profar and Ogando. Edwin + ? to Seattle for Franklin + Walker. Janssen + Santos + Cecil to Tigers for Castellanos. That would still leave quite a few players (Morrow, Dickey, Buehrle, etc, but I'm not too sure where the specific fits might be for them other than the Angels and their horrid farm). Could see a rotation with Miller, Ogando, Walker, Stroman, Sanchez along with lawrie, Profar, Franklin + 1b + c + Taveras, Castellanos, Gose.
  24. There are a few interesting points that Davidi talked about in his latest report (didn't see all of them posted here): Shi seems to feel we're definitely interested in Hanigan, and feels we will make a run at Samardzija. Trade market extremely slow right now, and likely won't pick up until the winter meetings. Feels there's zero chance of Halladay or Tanaka. Feels the Jays will be aggressive on the trade market first, and then fall back to the free agent market if they can't get what they need.
  25. Sanchez looks almost like he's playing a casual game of catch. So free and effortless.
