  1. I think any time is too soon for something like that.
  2. There, that seems a lot more familiar with what we saw with Farrell.
  3. For anyone interested, Rogers released the 3rd quarter financials today http://www.rogers.com/cms/pdf/en/IR/QuarterlyReport/2013-Q3_Results-Release.pdf Unfortunately they don't break down the Jays specifically, but the media division showed 10% higher profit over the last 3 months (would have been even higher without them buying The Score).
  4. Looks like more complaints about Boston pitchers and foreign substances: http://espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2013/story/_/id/9874484/2013-world-series-boston-red-sox-manager-john-farrell-says-jon-lester-doctoring-ball
  5. No kidding. I'd gladly take Hudson @ 9 million too.
  6. It likely doesn't matter anyway, since nothing true ever seems to leak since AA took over. He's probably inquired about every single catcher in the league.
  7. Then they should sign Halladay at a hell of a lot less cost, rather than give up THAT much for 1 year of Scherzer and a horrifically bad contract in Fielder.
  8. Why the hell would the Jays do that?
  9. No kidding. I definitely didn't want him at 17.5 per.
  10. Alternatively when he starts you could move Bautista to 3rd and go with a 5 man infield with Gose and Rasmus in the outfield. Would be an interesting experiment, especially if Porcello keeps the high gb rate with 7+ k's.
  11. I don't get it either, and reports from this year seemed to indicate that he's made good mental improvements. His walk rate during rehab this year was fantastic.
  12. Those are some very interesting points. I wonder if they could also be interested in Izzy returning, especially if they were considering trading Kendrick (whether to us or elsewhere). Perhaps a Romero and Blanton swap as well could be interesting for both sides. The best part would be if JPA went the other way. It would be amusing to see which of the wills would win between JPA and Scioscia.
  13. It's back a few posts
  14. If we're going to trade with Detroit for a pitcher, I'd rather nab Smyly over Porcello
  15. Maybe this will spur Detroit on to trade for a few of our relievers ...
  16. Avila was about 2 inches away from a broken hand on that foul tip.
  17. Fielder looks terrible at the plate (looks a little heavier to me too)
  18. Interesting to see the lack of success for the Rays since 2007.
  19. AA seemed to be pretty clear about wanting to upgrade the defense. When he makes these little hints, it always seems to be his focus. I don't think we'll see him pick someone up who isn't plus defense at 2nd.
  20. Well, I didn't mean JPA back there for the next 6 or 7 years. McCann at the end of that contract is going to look every bit as bad as some of the other monster deals signed recently. JPA can be cut and replaced at will.
  21. I'd be happy with 4/60 plus an option, but that's about it. I'd rather have JPA back there at 2M than McCann at 20M for 6 or 7 years, and that's saying something.
  22. One thing that could be worth noting is that the Canadian dollar is expected to fall into the .90 range vs the USD next year. Since we pay salary in USD and take in CAD, that difference might also affect the payroll number a little.
  23. It's actually interesting seeing the difference in runs scored / allowed between then and now. Back in '07, only 4 teams gave up less than 700 runs and only 2 scored less than that. Last year, 20 teams gave up less than 700 runs (5 with less than 600), and 19 scored less than 700 (2 less than 600).
  24. Does anyone know of any studies available relating injury rates in Japan where they pitch once a week with higher pitch counts to here where they pitch more frequently with (usually) lower pitch counts?
