  1. Meh, you can change the page settings in your profile. 2012 posts baby!
  2. Cool! You should add a section that gives what the win increases would be for the Jays specifically with a few of the free agents and rumored trade targets (like shark)
  3. If I remember right, earlier drafts said something about a fine if no agreement is reached.
  4. They could change it up a bit and have a lottery with the max bidding teams. Lower placed teams in the standings get higher chance, but everyone has a reasonable chance.
  5. That is interesting. We know that AA wants someone who can make 30+ starts and doesn't have injury questions. Shark pretty much has to be one. Assuming Iwakuma is out of play (we know AA likes him), maybe Lynn or Chacin, or even Gio. Never know if the Giants are having second thoughts about Cain either.
  6. It would probably be the equivalent of saying that the third baseman blowing at the ball as it travels to the plate would cause it to move more horizontally.
  7. The difference in gravity between the two release points is so small you probably couldn't input it on a calculator. To give you an idea, the acceleration due to gravity at Coors field is about 9.798 m/s2, and at Yankee Stadium is about 9.802 m/s2. Coors field is ~1300 meters higher in elevation. The difference between a 7' pitcher and a 6' pitcher is 0.3 meters (plus possibly some additional arm length). It's not worth even considering.
  8. The difference in gravity due to height really has nothing to do with it (in fact it would have the opposite effect, in that the taller pitcher's pitches would have very slightly less pull on them, although this is far too small a difference to consider). It simply has to do with the angle that the ball is released at. A taller pitcher (usually) releases the ball at a higher point, and therefore the ball has to travel downward at a sharper angle in order to cross the plate in the strike zone.
  9. For the blog, having it worded and structured well is very important to add legitimacy to it. They are trying to help, not be asses. If I decide to write a few pieces for the blog in the future, I know I'd appreciate someone pointing out those kind of mistakes.
  10. That's correct. He basically exceeded his numbers in the minors (some of which was inflated by a .392 babip in Vegas) at the major league level on both offense and defense. I expect the league to adapt to him, as well as his numbers across the board to regress. Most players who come onto the major league stage with the kind of impact Gomes did seem to struggle the next year a bit. I'd still take him back in a heartbeat over anyone we have.
  11. I highly doubt either come close to that. I would be surprised if Gomes is over 2 WAR and D'Arnaud breaks 1.5 WAR. Have to wait and see though, just my opinion.
  12. People aren't looking to cherry pick stats to suit their vision (at least not serious people). All of this work that JFaS and others are doing help us to better understand the numbers. I do however think that in general we are too fast to attempt to apply them without considering where they may fail.
  13. I'd say Rasmussen may replace Cecil, or is at least insurance if we decide to.
  14. I actually like this trade, although I'm not sure Kratz has any options left which could make things interesting. Rasmussen looks like an ideal candidate to move into a relief role if we trade some other guys. Good slider, can't maintain velocity past a few innings.
  15. It's actually kind of surprising, but Ellsbury only has 4 home runs in 33 games in new yankee stadium.
  16. I think the Yankees overpaid, but he should produce for them at least for the first few years (minus one or two on the dl).
  17. If we hadn't traded for Happ we would have likely had to trade for someone else. We had a LOT of players that would have had to be added to the 40 man (same with the trades last off-season). We can complain about a few of the players who were included or who we got back, but we had to trade a good volume of prospects one way or another. Honestly, when everything is considered, I'm really only upset about losing Syndergaard. I wanted to keep Gomes as bench depth since he could also cover 3rd, but at the time like most others I didn't view it as a massive issue. His breakout surprised pretty much everyone. I'm not high on d'Arnaud at all.
  18. I like that it's the Yankees giving him that deal (although he's a perfect fit for that park).
  19. The Yankees must have given up on getting under the cap, unless they know A-Rod has no chance of playing next year.
  20. Wow, I didn't realize just how little money the Mariners have tied up this year right now. King Felix is taking up like 2/3 of their total team salary.
  21. I'll go with Daniel Hudson or John Axford ... but my crystal ball sucks
  22. Not enough! We're giving away a top 10 catcher who at the moment is free! We have to be getting Zunino too!
  23. Dombrowski must be getting kickbacks from Boras or something. You'd think he'd learn his lesson after Prince.
  24. so ... what's the over/under on how many days (past the May deadline) until the Marlins move him to some team that loses their catcher?
  25. Sit 10 guys down in the bar, get them plastered, and tell them to each make a trade in their fantasy league and the results would make more sense than half of what we've seen and heard the last 2 days...
