  2. It's really an interesting question. Do you consider the higher prospect to be the guy with the higher ceiling if everything clicks, or the guy who will likely produce best over their career? Stroman's good stuff combined with his makeup and especially command are tough to ignore, but so is the elite stuff of Sanchez if he can harness it.
  3. No harm in claiming him. Let him and Thole catch Dickey in the spring. If he can handle it, DFA Thole. If not, he can be reclaimed by the Astros.
  4. I'd take him in a heat beat for secondary prospects or a reliever. I wouldn't give up Sanchez or Stroman though.
  5. I'd just like to say that some kind of live blog of the event on the BB site would be kind of cool. Are you taking those pictures yourself, or getting them from somewhere?
  6. Buehrle's contract may in fact be looking half decent, forget moveable.
  7. Personally I much prefer the CFL style game, but there's no question there's more talent in the NFL. I'm not a big football fan either way though.
  8. I think you're overvaluing Marisnick, but time will tell. Alvarez hurt to lose, but I got a sense that he was refusing to make any adjustments and the coaching staff had it with him (don't know for sure, just my observations). We all know Yunel was traded for other reasons, and may very well have been released otherwise.
  9. It would be easier to determine if you knew what you could get for those players separately. I'm guessing some of those players might get you decent returns by themselves that combined could be more valuable than Fernandez who you'd be buying astronomically high on.
  10. Not only that, but national rights (which hopefully ends this blackout bs)
  11. Steamer is also projecting him to start 146 games next year... Dump him down to a more reasonable 120 and you probably get about 2.4 WAR projection. Without calculating the exact amount, it looks like Steamer is projecting Salty and JPA to be roughly equal defensively per game, but Salty to be slightly better with the bat (but still below average).
  12. I'm a bit surprised that Tim Wheeler cleared waivers. Seems like he'd be a good option for some team as a cheap 4th outfielder that is still young enough to possibly be fixed.
  13. Yeah, I've got a number of things I'd love to flesh out and submit too, but I'm just too busy atm. Maybe come spring I'll be able to. Sounds like there's quite a few people in the same position.
  14. Can you imagine if he now got in an accident driving in the rough conditions? He'd never live it down. (not that I'd ever wish an accident on someone)
  15. If Rasmus still had 3 years of control left or something, then it might be different. He's a free agent after next season though, and with almost everyone looking for starting pitching it just wouldn't happen. Someone would offer far more than that. In fact, I don't even know if Rasmus would get Phillips (guess it depends on how eager they are to move the salary). Cecil is been suggested quite a bit around here as the likely price for Hanigan. That still leaves Shark, who certainly wouldn't be thrown in as a freebie.
  16. Their "baseball card" numbers should improve. Lind and Cecil wouldn't get us Chacin though. Here's a link to his home/away career numbers: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=chacijh01&year=Career&t=p#hmvis
  17. Well, they did need a backup catcher with Navarro leaving. However with where they're at in a rebuild, Castillo may net them more value towards that rebuild by trading him now. They could always take JPA as part of the return (which is only 1 year different in control anyhow). Like I said, for where they're at, JPA + good prospects may be better than Castillo without. So here's a question. Let's say AA was able to get Samardzija + Castillo + Castro. Would people be upset to lose Sanchez + Stroman ++ in the deal if that was the return?
  18. Rasmus and a reliever aren't going to get us those 3. We'd need to be sending a lot more.
  19. So in other words you're saying there's a handful of GM's that might?
  20. Just ignore him and apply that stylish fix I posted a long time ago (unless you're one of the unlucky ones it doesn't work for). The only time you see them is if someone quotes them to complain about what idiots they are...
  21. Few interesting ones in there. Thanks.
  22. I'm not really interested in this, but you can find out how many are online at http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/online.php . As of writing, there were 109 people currently online (which is pretty awesome), and our peak from earlier in the year had 377.
