  1. Keith Law chat going on right now. Some highlights:
  2. Actually, I quite like this signing. Literally no downside since it's a minor league deal.
  3. Izzy should be easy to trade at 3M. He's basically a 1 to 2 WAR player with average to slightly above average defense when not on the carpet. We shouldn't have to eat any salary.
  4. Really no reason to keep Izzy either. I'm sure he'll bounce back some, but he never did look comfortable defensively on the carpet. Just sign Kawasaki again and save the extra 2M. I'm sure there's quite a few teams that would give us something for him.
  5. I think a lot of us weren't comfortable with the idea of Gio. I seem to recall a lot of people being upset we didn't get Latos though.
  6. BTS is basically saying that we should be shipping off guys like Bautista for good young talent as they near the end of their contracts, rather than trying to acquire guys near the end of their contracts.
  7. I don't think they'd do it. Remember also that they'll be paying out a pretty good amount soon for the new team complex in Florida too.
  8. I'm not sure the Yankees have much in the way of young assets to drive up any costs via trade. If they did manage to get someone, it would probably empty what's left of their system.
  9. He can't leave no trace though. It would be a piece of cake to get some balls from each year off the internet and analyze them to see if anything is different.
  10. This tweet is a little disturbing
  11. Then he'll strike out on a pitch in the dirt, and get an even bigger one.
  12. No one can figure out why the Yankees didn't pony up for Martin either. Either there's something we don't know about, or a lot of teams screwed the pooch on that one.
  13. Overall it really is an interesting issue we have. Considering the years of control several of our highly desirable guys have, we really could blow it up and end up with a massive haul of guys all basically major league ready. I'm not sure how realistic some of these are (and I know we aren't going to blow it up), but Reyes + Rasmus + 1/2 salary to Cards for Tavares and Miller. Bautista and reliever to Texas for Profar and Ogando. Edwin + ? to Seattle for Franklin + Walker. Janssen + Santos + Cecil to Tigers for Castellanos. That would still leave quite a few players (Morrow, Dickey, Buehrle, etc, but I'm not too sure where the specific fits might be for them other than the Angels and their horrid farm). Could see a rotation with Miller, Ogando, Walker, Stroman, Sanchez along with lawrie, Profar, Franklin + 1b + c + Taveras, Castellanos, Gose.
  14. There are a few interesting points that Davidi talked about in his latest report (didn't see all of them posted here): Shi seems to feel we're definitely interested in Hanigan, and feels we will make a run at Samardzija. Trade market extremely slow right now, and likely won't pick up until the winter meetings. Feels there's zero chance of Halladay or Tanaka. Feels the Jays will be aggressive on the trade market first, and then fall back to the free agent market if they can't get what they need.
  15. Sanchez looks almost like he's playing a casual game of catch. So free and effortless.
  16. Doesn't matter. The Jays would control him for 4 years. They can simply pay him the min next year, then take him to arbitration for the following 3 years if Boras wants to be an idiot.
  17. That would be rather intriguing wouldn't it, especially if Buehrle has quietly asked for a trade. Brown + Lee would be a good fit (even better if we could pawn Brown off for something good like a young starter from the Cards).
  18. Rosenthal is guessing, suggesting simply that it makes sense for Boston.
  19. Says the person who earlier posted breaking news tweets that came from a fake account...
  20. There's no question Sanchez has higher upside, but I think Stroman is far more likely to reach his potential. I also like the fact he's had to constantly prove himself. Sanchez may also fetch a higher return.
  21. How did Jose Molina do, since he often seems to be one of the leaders?
  22. I'm not so sure he is overall (or at least wouldn't be with a full time instructor on the staff). Regardless, his stubbornness with the bat and especially the antics when people criticized him this year make me want him gone.
  23. Some interesting tidbits from AA (more than just Cano) http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-wont-budge-club-policy-for-cano/ In particular, that affordability of any free agents isn't a question, but rather if they like the player at that price. Also, that demand for their relievers has been high (inquiries on at least 10 relievers). Kawasaki is weighing offers from several Japanese teams, but AA is hopeful of retaining him.
  24. I'd say the fact that no one knows who made the offer is a really good sign that it might BE us.
  25. It doesn't make much difference for us regardless. Cano would be nice, but it just isn't happening. The Yankees will blow everyone out of the water on Tanaka assuming they still want to get under the luxury tax threshhold this year. It's basically a no brainer for them to bid high on him. Ellsbury isn't a need for us and will likely get a contract someone regrets sooner rather than later. Garza isn't the pitcher we need right now, and Santana is a bad fit in our division.
