  1. Well, he let one go. Gotta maintain the quota!
  2. I think everyone was told at the time that Cooper's injuries would end his career.
  3. Neither is obviously ideal, but Choo strikes me as a complete disaster waiting to happen - possibly worse than the A-Rod / Pujols / Hamilton / Fielder deals when all is said and done. Jimenez I think is under-rated (but won't be underpaid).
  4. I don't know how anyone else feels, but I suspect Choo is going to get paid a LOT more for a LOT longer than any team should be comfortable giving him. I'd much rather give 16-17M / year for 5 years to Jimenez than 20+M / year for 7 years to Choo.
  5. I can't believe he's apparently getting a major league deal.
  6. How can anyone immediately assume this will happen? People do both around here, including me on occasion. From a personal perspective, I have a hard time believing AA would put that big a dent in the offense to try to help the pitching unless he has another move lined up as well (like signing Hart perhaps). Regardless, until a more concrete rumor comes along, I'll chalk this up to a bored journalist.
  7. Yeah, 300 wins today is probably unrealistic, but I agree that Halladay "feels" like a HOF. As much as my heart wants him in the hall, I question if the lack of longevity in the game makes him deserve it. Does him being one of the game's elite pitchers over the last 10 years make up for it? Another way of looking at this though could be that Halladay has more career fWAR than Alomar. B-R lists him as 136th overall in career WAR.
  8. Interesting. Won't be a trade though imo, or we'd probably see at least some kind of sign. Has to be some kind of free agent signing or extension (or possibly something about the new ST complex?)
  9. I bet Friedman could have some real fun with an Ouija board and a camera on April fool's day...
  10. Might have been smarter to say you over-performed, otherwise they probably told you that you were grounded until you starter working hard enough to realize your true talent...
  11. No, it isn't. It's an evaluation tool to help us see past personal bias to determine what a given team should be able to attain all things being equal. It can't account for things like freak injuries (or freak good health), or trades that haven't happened yet for example. Using them in hindsight is a misapplication of them, as is believing that they are designed as some sort of absolute predictor of the future.
  12. I don't follow the nba that closely other than watching some of the Raptor's games when I'm bored, but that return seems terrible.
  13. Well, Delmon does hit lefties well. He can't possibly be any worse at 1st as he is in the outfield, can he? In all seriousness, we could probably do worse than him as a motivated bench platoon guy with some pop.

Thornton said that it wasn't his intention. Which part exactly? It seemed pretty hard to mistake that for an accident...
  15. Even better would be to trade them a reliever for Gardner ourselves and extend him, then trade Rasmus to Seattle to fix 2nd base (and get good young controllable talent to boot).
  16. Yeah, if everything goes right they could be deadly, but that's asking a lot especially of aging guys. I also don't like their rotation very much.
  17. It would be so hilarious if they skimped the rest of the offseason to just squeak in under the cap, then had someone trigger a forgotten about bonus at the end of the season...
  18. Yeah, it would be tough. I don't know what I'd think of it either, but that seems like the kind of return it might take - especially with 1st base bats flying off the FA list. I think it would be worth it.
  19. Again, I didn't say that Butler had a better year last year, I said that I would take Butler over Lind in a heartbeat (which is what Havok said before you decided to get snarky).
  20. I suspect the cost would be rather high (and likely won't matter since he'll probably go to TB anyhow). Still really nice to dream about. (I kept trying to find something that he might ask for, but closest I can think of might be Gose + Lind for Franklin and Smoak.
  21. We probably would have with the arms if it wasn't for a few really poorly timed TJS.
  22. To get impact position players from the farm, it kind of helps to DRAFT impact position players ...
  23. I didn't say that, you said that Lind was better than Butler in almost every way last year, which is what I was responding to. I would easily take Butler over Lind, but I wouldn't give up a haul to do so.
  24. Very nice analysis. I love the depth and thought you guys are putting into these.
  25. I would take Butler over Lind in a heartbeat, especially if he never sees the field. And this comes from someone who likes Lind.
