  1. That might be my favorite Law quote ever!
  2. I love this! As I said earlier, hopefully this extends to the draft rather than just throwing away those picks meant to free up draft budget.
  3. This doesn't change the sport in any negative way that matters. In fact, in some ways the enforcement of it improves things. I hated how catchers would set up in front of the plate without the ball, or at least without having the ball in a position where they could tag the runner, blocking any possible avenue the runner had. That's just as dangerous for the runner to try to slide through all that equipment to have a chance at the plate they're supposed to have anyway. They have two options, slide into the equipment and risk injury, or bowl over the catcher and risk injury. BTW, for the record I think they should make it a rule that players can not intentionally make contact with a fielder (such as at second) unless the fielder is blocking their path. (Ie, no going out of their way to get a piece of the fielder, especially after they're already technically out)
  4. Nice, I forgot about those 5 games of Ducey.
  5. Does this mean Ohka becomes the first and only player to ever play for the Expos once and Jays twice? No harm from this signing though, and makes perfect sense to sign where a knuckleballer can actually help him. I'd love for the Jays to do their 5k-freeing-up-draft-slot-bonus signing on a college guy with great pitchability but subpar stuff, with the express purpose of turning him into a knuckleballer.
  6. The courts disagree.
  7. There were more rumors, yes. And apparently they were all false ones. I'd rather hear what we have this year (which has seemed plausible regarding Jays related stuff), than have every journalist play us to pad their status.
  8. Goins is the backup SS
  9. Probably, but I doubt the Mariners would give up that much.
  10. The trend is rather amusing. GM gets a big park. Clearly the rational thing to do is sign guys who can't field...
  11. Well, I think two things are certain: The Mariners offense has improved dramatically, and they may set some kind of record for poor defense next year.
  12. No idea (Jack Z is insane). Both could be fully expendable though, especially if the Mariners land Choo.
  13. LoMo seems like a decent buy for the price, and Hart as well. I think I'd prefer Smoak over LoMo, but both have some upside.
  14. Man would I love us to nab Franklin + Saunders (I'm assuming one or both of LoMo and Hart will play in the outfield, not that they SHOULD). Saunders would nicely fill the LF hole that opens up in 2015 for us, and I still believe is ready to break out if he can get out of Safeco.
  15. I love that move for the A's. Burns has zero power, but he's a walk, hit, and stolen base machine. Appears that's he's plus defensively too in center field. It'll be interesting to see if his ability to hit for average and walk translate to AAA and the majors, but if it does he has big time lead off hitter written all over him.
  16. Hard to get too excited about Montero right now. I think Smoak would be somewhat intriguing, but not a great fit atm for us.
  17. That would be nice, but he's definitely not signing here as a platoon guy, so unless we feel he can play the outfield still ... Swapping Hart and Lind would probably be a wash in money (might even save us a little). If we can also fix 2nd base at the same time, it seems like a no-brainer. I would be sad to lose Lind, but I think it would be worth it.
  18. I could get on-board with this. Sign Hart, trade Lind to the Mariners for Franklin+
  19. IF we feel we'll be trading several relievers, I wouldn't mind seeing us take Kahnle.
  20. He was very clearly referring to the trade not being terrible at the time it was made, not in hindsight.
  21. This is too funny:
  22. I don't remember seeing that (maybe it was when I wasn't feeling well), but yes, especially focusing on the pitchers.
  23. I still think one of you should do a blog post listing the various talked about targets (FA and trade) and what each would do to our projections.
