The 2 pitchers Dodgers send, 1 his coming from a Tommy Jones surgery like Tiedemann, the 2nd have awfull stats in minor, worse than Stanifer, so maybe Jake Bloss more comparable to the 27 years  old Ryan. Even if we give Keys, Tedemann and Bloss, should be far below the values of Skubal

I remember this deal...

In 2024 due due to a roster crunch LA traded Michael Busch(1.31 in 2019 draft and on BAs top 100) + to the Cubs for Zyphor Hope +

They do this quite a bit, sometimes it works out, sometimes not (see Miguel Vargas)

Hope isn't a bad prospect, but in minor prior to this year, he wasn't impressive. Also his .AVG no in the .300+ area, so in MLB, he will be a .260 with 20+ HR and 20 SB. The 2 pitchers Dodgers send will be easilly forgotten, so this package shouldn't be enough for Skubal. What make me think Dodgers give money under the table to greedy owners.

More like Nimmala or Parker, plus Bloss, Stanifer

I won't give Parker 1 vs 1 for Hope, I think Parker will become a better player, but yes, Nimmala can compare to Hope, even If I won't hesitade trade Nimmala for Hope 1 vs 1

What to do....  I think it depends on today

If they are 4.5 games back 5:00 pm today - trade everyone and aim for 2029

If they are 3.5 games back 5:00 pm today - hold steady.  Springer, Gaussman goodbye tour, end of era tour.

If they are 2.5 games back 5:00 pm today - become buyers.

You don't decide the direction of your team based on one game when there's still two months left.

I think whatever they do, they should already have their minds made up.

This coming lockout literally every fan except Dodgers fans will be rooting for the owners. Wild times.

I really wish we will have a lockout in 2027, but I am afraid owners think because this year more teams can have chance to participate in playofs, everyting is fine, and they will just increase the luxury taxes

it feels disingenuous to compare bloss to ryan. Ryan throws 2 ticks harder, has 3 really good fastballs & an elite breaking ball package. He's consistently had better command & whiff numbers throughout the minors, hes just a better prospect.

Yes he's old for a prospect but thats honestly probably a benefit for the tigers since they can cheap out and get his prime years cost-controlled and then not have to pay him when he's 33 and hits free agency.

I 100% get hating this trade because of what it represents for the game but really dont understand the stance that the return was bad. They got a fully cost controlled mlb ready mid-rotation starter, a guy who looks a lot like riley greene did at 21, and an upside arm who's K-ing the world in the minors this year. This is a good return for like 10-12 starts of skubal

It's a very good return for a rental. Dodgers maybe uniquely positioned to to make this kind of deal because a) they'll be extending Skubal after the season, b) they're positioned so well financially and talent-wise that they don't really need cheap early-career talent, c) they were already the heavy WS favourite before this trade (going from like 35-40% WS odds may be more valuable than going from 8-13?) and d) they're chasing something very very rare: a threepeat

I understand why they'd move talent like this when teams like the Rays or Brewers wouldn't

Now does Gausman become the next highly suited SP on the market?  If Bieber had a good start his last outing, I think both could have fetched us a pretty good haul for a 2-3 month rental.

No.

Detmers, Soriano, Griffin, Mize, Peralta.

Toronto is not getting a sexy return for Goose

Bieber should have been pitching today on regular rest. It would help dispel any real concerns about the last outing if he had a good one today.

That would have been the smartest play and no clue why the Jays front office wouldnt do that when you're skipping your 5th starter in this scenario.

Max should be taken behind a woodshed already unless he's onboard in trying to become the next Smoltz out of the bullpen.

I get this weird feeling we are going to be very dissappointed in this trade deadline.

The way the season has gone so far, not getting rid of the pending FAs for eve 1 or 2 useful bodies would the the diarrhea frosting on an already sh*t filled cake.

Soriano and especially Detmers might be too expensive given their controllability. I would want the Jays to go after Detmers personally.

Mize is the prize now. But there's probably an okay secondary market for Gausman, more so than Bieber methinks.

Bieber is a mess

He has played himself into $9M pillow contract territory which I guess is fine for Toronto if he comes back

Whether Bieber gets traded or not, I think a lot will be answered about him over the course of the next 2 months. I don't think anybody knows what he is right now.

Its the other 29 teams fault that the Dodgers keep getting these players.  Stop dealing with them or if you are make them extremely overpay

Its not that simple. Those 3 prospects are probably better than anyone else would offer so the Tigers would be idiots not to accept.

No it's not, it's a system that allows a team to benefit from simply being situated in a shithole city that still manages to accumulate great wealth.

I honestly think Toronto is going to do a mix of buy and sell this deadline.

I wouldn’t be shocked if we traded Hoffman, Gausman and Varsho if the returns are there and I wouldn’t be shocked if we traded for Soriano and a couple more pieces on the offensive side with control. I could see us trading, as an example not a realistic trade, with a team like Arizona and sending say Gausman for a good prospect, a couple of lottery tickets, Gurriel Jr and his full contract and eating some of Gausmans contract. You’d immediately DFA Gurriel but it frees up money for the DBacks to possibly make another few trades.

The problem is that "cash poor" teams simply over value prospects.  Has been happening for years and the return for giving up a bona fide star like Skubal is never a sure thing and rarely a good thing.

On the flip side is the reality that many of these teams, like the Tigers, choose to be "cash poor".  They simply don't reinvest their revenue into their baseball system the way the Dodgers do.

Yes I hate the Dodgers,  they are an easy target to hate; but, if the owners want parity they should start by looking in the mirror.  Not by holding the baseball world hostage with a lockout..

The Brewers have the same number of wins as the Dodgers and they also have an elite player development system and an absurdly deep farm system that is pumping out new top prospects every year.

They have zero excuses for choosing to not top this offer. They simply chose to be cheap/wimpy as they always do. What are they even hoarding these prospects for? They are ready to win right now, and with Skubal in their rotation they absolutely could have beaten the Dodgers. This notion that none of these teams can even contend with the Dodgers so why even try is moronic. The 2025 Jays had half the talent on paper and SHOULD have beaten them.

This was a missed opportunity by the Brewers. Who gives a s*** if Skubal won't re-sign long term? At some point you need to push some of your chips in and play for the win. Given their player development system, the loss of prospects is a non-issue.

I can`t believe Yankees, Cubs, Phillies, Mariners, won't have make similar offer Dodgers did, or at least increased the price of Skubal offering better offert to make Dodgers overpaid. It`s why I think Dodgers bribe greedy owners, sending money under the table. The last MLB teams should do, is to help the Dodgers become better, unless they overpaid. But it's no first time they get star players for almost giving nothing in return.

I don't think its just being "wimpy". I'm sure they've had a lot of internal discussion about making an addition like Skubal, but believe that the way for them to maximize their chances at a WS is to be a very, very good team every year vs. moving pieces that they think will help them compete for the next 5+ years to increase their chances at a 2026 title from 9 to 14% or whatever.

I think this is defensible. You don't necessarily need a super-team to win. The Braves weren't in 2021. The Rangers weren't in 2023. The Jays weren't last year. You do need to make the playoffs though.

I think there are also financial reasons that make sense as well. The Brewers are legitimately a small market team. The ideal model for them in the current format is to be competitive every year. This becomes a lot harder to accomplish if they're cashing blue chip pieces for rentals.
