The Guardians are either getting WC3 or their division while the Jays saved them $38M in 2026 salary with the Gimenez, Straw, and Bieber trades. They eating good.

White sox 1/2 game up.  Houston not too far ahead of Texas as well.  Every day there are new opportunities opening up where we can back into the playoffs.  We are going to need to just win 1/3 from Baltimore though.  If Texas falters down the stretch we might make due with 1/3 in that series as well.

The orioles have the mets and the brewers after this series so we can assume we will only need 1/3 to win next time we play Baltimore.

So yea, 350-.450% ball gets us that wildcard.

Nothing against Gimenez, Straw or Bieber individually, but this is where the difference between organizations like Cleveland and Toronto really stands out.

Cleveland seems to churn out these types of players internally all the time: glove-first middle infielders, 4th/5th outfielders and solid mid-rotation arms. Meanwhile, the Jays are the team paying significant salaries to acquire players like Gimenez, Straw and Bieber.

Brayan Rocchio has already put up 3.1 WAR this season, they seemingly always have another Straw-type outfielder available somewhere in the organization, and they continue to develop young starters who can step into the rotation, like Messick and Cantillo.

That’s really the frustrating part. Cleveland can replace these types of players internally for close to the minimum, while Toronto often has to spend money or prospect capital to fill the exact same roles.

Agreed. Objectively the Jays are not really a well run organization. Their biggest success came from an era where they had two star players in years 0-7 of service time and a high payroll to add free agents around them. Now one of those “stars” is a $35M a year albatross, the other is gone, and they don’t have a single young position player that projects to be significant surplus value going forward. Every time they need to fill a hole it’s either throwing money at it or trading prospects. Eventually that model is going to catch up to you unless there’s some positive player development mixed in.

There was absolutely zero reason to believe Gimenez was a $100M player. I’m still floored by that trade.

Due to good vibes and smart budgeting, they also managed to sign their franchise third baseman to a VERY reasonable 7 year, $175,000,000 contract extension. Somehow our first baseman cost about triple that.

I don't think the Guardians would have enjoyed a chance to sign Ramirez long term had he not been willing to accept a well below market value extension contract. Contrast that with Vlad who essentially held the organization hostage through bad faith "negotiating" through the media, set a ridiculous contract demand value and refused to budge an inch before Edward Rogers blinked.

We f***ing lost the Varsho/Moreno trade. We lost it the day we made it. Hated it from day one.

They expected Varsho to grow into something he never did. Moreno has.

Sir this is the playoff thread.    Though that being said.  Varsho led to Spaghetti guy.  Spaghetti guy is not being a great help to our playoff hopes, though we will see what the next 2 weeks bring.  He will likely get 6 innings in the middle of important games and hopefully not implode.

Crazy but Guardians could get the 2 seed.  Then we have to get ahead of the White Sox.  It can be done because IF Guardians get 2 seed, that is likely 2 losses for Sox next 3 days, so we have to take care of business with the Tigers.

either Houston or Texas can lose us into the playoffs

f***ers are becoming really annoying. Although at this point if they pass us it just means we've lost touch with the Central Division teams anyway, so I guess we can't worry about what's behind us too much.

That garbage opposite field wall scraping home run was a real gut punch. 

I think the Guardians are the better team at this point and probably win the division, but it's hard to make up three games on a team that you don't face anymore with only 12 games left to go and that's what we would have to do against Chicago.

That home run really hurt.

I don't think they expected him to grow. 

But he got worse. Slightly worse, but his last year with Arizona was the most dynamic full season of his career. He tried to become a more complete player, repeatedly, with Toronto and it backfired every year. 

All I ever wanted was the guy who pulled 25 tanks, bunted for a hilarious number of hits, and played gold glove defense. 

We got a half season of that guy, really. 

I cringe to think about how he or Toronto tried to get him to hit oppo groundballs and go the other way at least two different springs

White Sox winning 2 is also acceptable.
