Lol. I didn't even know he was out. Just followed the score online and radio. Probably just easing him in. Varland blew the game. Bats didn't get the job done and stranded too many RISP.
bronson44 Verified Member Posted June 13 Posted June 13 A lot of competition but that might have been the worst loss of the year. Top 3 at least.

However we can't say much, it would be a very Canada thing to lose to Qatar. We have no aerial ability and we have very little finish. I think they will dominate Qatar. 2 or 3-0 at least. Swiss coasted after the first half. I do agree with Canada being struggle to finish. But I don't think Qatar is going to be able to compete with Canada's speed. I don't think they score unless its on a crazy mistake.

Asking Ernie to bunt was ridiculous. Sitting Kirk who had played 3 days in a row at AAA but cant even do back to backs as a DH for the club that matters. Its only against the Yankees ffs.

I'm sure they will dominate almost every aspect of the game, but being Canada it doesn't mean they won't f*** it up. Outside of qualification for the last World Cup, it's mostly disappointment and self-inflicted wounds. Jays24 1

Kirk 3 for 3 yesterday and not DHing. I guess easing him in since he just returned and since the Jays likely don't want to use two catchers in the same game. Vlad has lower back tightness. Not playing because he's injured. Stangstag 1

He was far better in Lille.

Varland still blew this game no matter how his season has gone up until that point. I hated the Clement bunt as well as the pitcher was having trouble throwing strikes and was on the ropes. It was counterproductive to hand him a free out even if Clement managed to get the bunt down. Jays24, Stangstag and Smokinitup420 3
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 14 Posted June 14 I miss 2025 when JS would make these boneheaded decisions and they would almost always work out. Like if this was 2025, that Clement bunt would have found a hole and 2 runs would have scored somehow. The magic is gone.

I just finished watching the highlights... to say that bunt decision was questionable is being extremely generous. Clement is a guy who gets the bat on virtually everything so theres a pretty decent chance he gets the runners moved over as one of his higher percentile outcomes, while keeping the chances that he knocks in a run himself. Calling for the bunt eliminates all of the run scoring outcomes(except for errors) while keeping all the s***** contact outcomes, for an increased chance at moving the runners at the cost of one of your last remaining outs. That said, if you get called on to bunt, popping it up like that is also inexcuseable. Do better Ernie Stangstag 1

Like thats exactly the type of skill you’d practice day in and day out as a speedy contact guy. Not excusing the stupid decision to call for a bunt but Ernie needs to be able to handle the bat there
