He is going to be the next Daulton Varsho I bet.  I think he is a big pop-up guy like Varsho.

Varsho .296 .365 .519 minors, .229 .297 .423 majors

Even the guys that suck hit for higher averages then you'd think in the minors.

Nimmala is going to be awesome, because he hits the ball 110 mph, his .230 average will get way higher in double and triple a.  He is going to be a +20 short stop.  And he hits the ball 420 feet oppo regularly (I've seen him do it in the minors).  That's the positive story.

The risk is he should be smashing balls through minor league defenses and he isn't which could indicate a swing path or popup issue or something.

Put the two together and 40 seems about right.

I dunno. My sense is that his hit tool risk is still immense.

Carter Kieboom possibility.

But if he's a legit MLB SS glove it will be fine. He will be something

I mean of course he could totally bust, that's a risk on all of them. At least to me there's positive trend with the contact rate and K rate improving slightly year to year, despite him generally not repeating a level. I'm just saying that his progression, the seeming ability to stick at SS, and legit power, makes him more intriguing than publications like fangraphs have him at. TJStats has him as #22 and a 55 FV for what it's worth, while Rainer is #40 and a 50 FV. But he's just a guy - who might have Jays bias - and the public industry consensus is to flip these two guys. That's all I'm saying.

I’ve slept on it and woken up with a refreshed view on Nimmala. I think the industry is arguably overrating him, the contact ability is very concerning and the power hasn’t even been showing up recently. Do we even know he’s actually a good SS or is that just scouts as usual not having any idea? You were right Olerud.

I think the industry continually reports he has the ability to stick at SS and be above average.

The best thing about Nimmala has always been his age v level.  He's held his own offensively v kids who are on average 2-3 years older - which is historically a big indicator of future success.

I wonder if the Angels will move Neto now.  Lots of rumours of that.

He has 2 doubles tonight (and a walk), but yes, his power was kind of in a rut in NH before he got traded, and off the top of my head his wRC+ had dropped to like ~114 prior to the trade. His zone contact rate is still fairly pedestrian at 79.6%, so I do think that there is still real risk with him. As someone mentioned: his age is really his best quality.

Perry is back and threw 3 hitless innings with 4 k's

His numbers certainly better this year. A 2.92 ERA and 0.983 WHIP over three different levels.

His stuff has ticked up after Tommy John surgery and that's a big part of the improved results.

Shortstop JoJo Parker was promoted to the high-A Vancouver Canadians, Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling reported on Saturday.

The Blue Jays' eighth-overall selection in the 2025 MLB Draft, Parker has torn up the Florida State League with the single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, slashing .259/.389/.471 with 13 home runs and 66 RBIs over 87 games.

After a slow start, Parker has been particularly impressive since the start of June, hitting 10 homers and posting a .973 OPS.

The left-handed hitter's 114.2 m.p.h. max exit velocity ranks in the 97th percentile

Tucker Toman up to AA a few games back. Still just 22 and having a pretty good season for a kid about 80% of the way to being written off a year ago. 12 HRs this year when he'd only hit 15 total over the previous 4 seasons.

Virtually every metric across the board is trending the right way. Avg, walk rate, ISO all up without a higher K rate or wildly weird babip. He's been playing mostly 3b but also getting reps at 2b and a couple at 1st. Left handed hitter.

Pretty sure he's rule 5 eligible too so maybe he's played himself onto the 40 man in the offseason.

Trade deadline target Ty Southsiene just hit his first professional HR for Vancouver on the first pitch of the game.

Plus power unlocked after only 3 games in the system.

Atkins is a boss.

It was also to the deepest part of the park lol

Slightly to the right of center field over a 35 foot high Chick Filet sign.

Interesting that Dasan Hill and Ty Southsiene have many similarities

1.  Both drafted in 2024 and get million dollar + bonuses (Hill 1.9, Southsiene 1.0 million or so)

2. Both have .380 on base percentage, .325 slugging in their stat line (Hill's against).

3. Both have tremendous peak athleticism that they haven't fully taken advantage of (Hill throws 100 but doesn't know where it's going, Southsiene is very fast and has 420 foot to center power.

I joke about the 3rd.  Probably Myles Straw could do that too if he connected just right.  Or maybe not??

Now they've got Stanifer, Perry, King and Guerra all at AA. Nice

and Danny Thompson Jr. The depth for next year should be dramatically different.

Hopefully. I was thinking Stanifer would make a push for MLB this season after making it to AA last season and looking solid there, he seems to have stalled out a little bit though.

I was looking through the stats from our Top 30 prospects just yesterday.  I think it's safe to say a lot of our prospects have stalled.  Looks like the guys in the minors are playing about as poor as the big club is.

Arias, Sanchez, Stanifer, Bloss, Hechavarria, Schreck, Barrriera, Piasentin, Duran, Cook, Coffey, etc.  All steps back - in some cases, massive ones.  It happens, and there have been some nice surprises like Perry and Harry, but the farms looks pretty barren these days.

Honest question - how much concern is there that his BB/9 remains 5+ with only marginal improvement over last year?  Does that matter as much in the lower minors, or is it a reason to slow the promotions?  Or do teams not care about that too much until AA/AAA?

For a team that seems to target big time arms with control issues, it's a tad concerning we've seen little to no improvement from King or Stanifer this year.  Stanifer has been awful.

Drafting and development remains our achilles heel.

Does Colorado or Kansas City have anyone better to use playing time on then Toman.   Does Toronto have anyone better to protect ?

If the command was that big of a concern to them then he wouldn't be promoted; I think it's that simple honestly. The Yankees for example were pretty slow in moving Spencer Jones, so it's all about them showing that they're ready for the next developmental step.

High walk rate guys can make it work, and if the stuff is good enough then teams can still treat them as legit prospects and promote accordingly. Robbie Ray, Dylan Cease come to mind as guys who have succeeded despite high walk rates in the minors and majors. Obviously I'm sure they still think King can iron out some of these walks into a more manageable rate.

King just having turned 20 makes me think the walks aren't particularly concerning just yet, it might be a different story if he was a college guy who was supposed to be more polished. He's gonna be in AA at a younger age than the best college pitchers in next year's draft become professionals.

No offense, but the Jays choosing to promote him, doesn't give me any assurance that it's the right thing for his development.  I posed the question because our development has been so abysmal under Pete Walker.

That said, I do believe I've seen other teams use a similar strategy with some success - which is why I was asking the smart people of this board what they thought.

When will the high walks be a red flag - which I assume comes with a increased risk he's a future relief pitcher...

I don't think Walker is responsible for minor league pitching development in any real capacity.

Then who is?  It's been brutal across multiple GM's now and Pete's one of the few common denominators.

Walker must have some role in it.  I appreciate Walker is traveling around to work with those coaches and minor league players during the season, but I would imagine he sets the organizational strategies and would be a resource for minor league coaches?  I'd imagine he has a hand in choosing who's hired to develop/manage pitchers in the minors too?

Prospect development is one of the most valuable tools an organization has.  Home grown, controllable, affordable talent is essential for long term success.  Someone is deciding what type of arms we're going to target/draft/trade for, how they're going to be developed in terms of usage, workload, etc.  The Jays have been using the piggyback system dating back to the Sanchez/Snydergaard/Nicolino days I believe.  I would be shocked if Pete isn't directly involved in these strategies/philosophies.

Maybe I'm wrong and this is why our development has been brutal.
