philly30 Verified Member Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Here is crazy thought, at least 80% of the team should actually be from that country

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 USA barely scrapes by the group stage, barely gets passed Canada, barely scrapes by DR to secure their spot in the finals. I hate it lol Jays24, jaysblue and spats 2 1
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Why did they decide not to do ABS in the World Baseball Classic despite it being prominent in Spring.. Were some of the international venues just not equipped for it? Seems like something that could have been fixed if they were able to install into every Spring venue in Florida and Arizona. It does suck seeing games end on terrible strike calls. Stangstag 1

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 16 Posted March 16 One of the biggest goals of the WBC is to grow baseball internationally. The tournament clearly does that in countries where baseball is already established. For most teams it feels like a do or die event, unlike the US and Canada. But growing the game also means generating interest in non-baseball countries. Most of the teams are real. The only ones that aren't are Italy, Great Britain, and Israel but including them in the tournament still helps IMO. Baseball rarely makes headlines in Italy, but it does during the WBC, and that's a good thing. philly30 and Stangstag 2

Israel is the biggest fake team though. Their citizenship rules are extremely broad and WBC rules say anyone who "could" become a citizen of the country can compete. Basically means anyone with Jewish heritage within like 3 generations back or who is married to a Jewish person can compete. Stangstag and philly30 2

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Also, I think the WBC shouldn't always be hosted in the US mainly, but I understand why it is. Money and to get more MLB players to play. In terms of fairness, why can't the WBC Semis and Finals be held in Tokyo one year? A lot of Asian teams like Japan are at a disadvantage when they have to come to the US after in terms of time difference/jet-lag. Like the US team played all their games in Houston and Miami. Not fair or equitable. I would like to see the USA have to play in Japan and win a WBC Championship. Japan has 3 times on American soil. Pretty much team USA has the easiest schedule always in terms of always playing in the US, where other teams have to travel across different time zones or play in different countries. Brownie19 1
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Good point Next time the finals should be somewhere else Manfred can whine about the travel but he's sent MLB teams to f***ing Japan for regular season games before has he not Stangstag and jaysblue 2

Japan or Dominican or Australia or Mexico should host the WBC Finals including quarters and semis. Shouldn't always be the US.
