If Ponce is already in the rotation no matter what then are we moving Berrios to the pen after Beiber is ready?

Guess we'll cross that bridge when we need to but also sucks for Lauer knowing he has no shot at the rotation due to contractual obligations.  Feels like he might be pushing for a trade soon.

Lol I would love to see journeyman Eric Lauer demand a trade

Absolutely. Who cares about Lauer. We signed better players so suck it up and take whatever role you can earn. I doubt he could repeat last years performance anyways

Yeah, that was in reference to Jays24, last year he never shut-up about Yarbrough, when the Jays had Lauer to replace him. Now he's crying from the rooftops over Lauer, guy's a dingleberry, man.

It would be poetic justice to see him traded to a team like the Rockies or White Sox. It'd be like "enjoy playing on a last place team instead of a potential world series contender so you can potentially earn a few extra million bucks in free agency". Lauer was highly effective last season but he beat his FIP and xERA by over half a run each and remove him from pitching in front of an elite defense and his numbers would look a lot worse.

It takes a "special" breed of person to whine about the batting order in the first few weeks of spring training.

Brendon Little appears to have new pitches.

Last year he was almost exclusively sinker slider. I few cutters at the same velo as his sinker.

Today per Gameday he has thrown some four seamers which are noticeably harder than his sinker (up to 98.1!) and some cutters that are more differentiated in velo (90 and 91)

His existing sinker/slider combo was nasty as f*** and his only issue was strikes. What if he can zone the 4 seamer or cutter? What if the four seamer is a plus pitch? Is he the best reliever on the team?

lol

by slider I mean knuckle curve, whatever it is

I know the Jays are going to stash him, but Yariel's been really bad here from the get-go.

DFA candidate sadly

Or wait. Can he be optioned to AAA since he went through waivers and all that in December?

No, he's depth. Hopefully he can turn it around. He's already been designated, an easy stash.

Yeah I just realized after I posted

Stash in AAA until he proves himself and we need him

Okay so it's not good shape on the Little 4 seamer (expected) but it is gas.

He doesn't need a third plus pitch. He might just need something he can surprise people with 15 to 20% of the time. And maybe land for strikes the odd time. Perhaps the 4 seamer or cutter can do that. Another tool to set up the life stealing knuckle curve.

Transcribing Ken Rosenthal on Foul Territory this morning:

"(Lauer) has talked about possibly being traded, or at least that would be his desire, if the Blue Jays could not create a spot for him in the rotation. Perhaps a trade of Lauer is coming now."

Feel free to send your "im sorry for doubting you" gift baskets :)

lol... have you listened to the podcast, it's all conjecture from his colleague Mitch Bannon.

Nice job spiking that football... 😅

Lauer should just shut the f*ck up and do his job.

This whole board is conjecture.  Me mentioning Lauer may want to get moved was treated like it was something earth shattering.  Its just common sense to connect the dots.

I hope Lauer does what Eat my Shatkins says by shutting up and performing whatever role a world series contender asks of him.  Its always good to have depth during a long season.

He was already DFA in December. Then went unclaimed, so he was outrighted to AAA. There's no option process involved. He's in AAA until his contract is either purchased again by the Jays again or traded.

The way the Jays did this with timing was pretty smart. They DFA'd him a few days before the Rule 5 draft when teams were purging roster spots instead of adding. Plus, if they took him then, they'd be taking his entire salary commitment.

If they are trading Lauer they better get a legit return for him. Not just doing him a favor.
