I feel like if Bo didn't have a history here nobody would want to add him. His athleticism has fallen off a cliff and he might not even be an above-average hitter anymore. We should just be happy we dodged a bullet by letting him go to New York.

Bo Bichette chooses to accept his 42MM player option to stay with the Mets

If Bichette opted out of $42M (and another $42M player option the following year) in order to hit the free agent market a month before a lockout, then firing his agent would have been mandatory. Although if there’s one thing Bo is better at than making contact, it seems to be money, or at least maximizing it. He had no issues backing out of an (apparent) agreement with the Phillies to take the bigger AAV in New York. No way he was ever opting out of this contract with the season he had.

I think the Jays washed their hands of Bo a long time ago. I doubt bringing him back is even a thought in their minds, without even factoring the $42M option for 2028 (which makes him practically unmovable unless to Mets agree to eat up a chunk of next year’s money too).

Tough not to agree.

If the front office truly viewed Bo as part of the long-term core, I think they would’ve done everything they could to keep him in a Blue Jays uniform after the 2025 season.

As fans, myself included, there’s definitely some recent nostalgia attached to the idea of bringing him back. After the run they had in 2025, it’s easy to think that putting Bo and Vladdy back in the same lineup might somehow recreate some of that magic.

But at some point, you have to move forward. The Jays need to find another elite bat to pair with Vladdy, and I think that should be one of the biggest priorities of the offseason.

Bo can rot on the Mets for all I care.

Baseball needs more JRam's and less Bo Bichette's IMO

Wow... Bo did nothing wrong? JRAM's are a dying breed bro.

Yeah, I know he didn't but as fan it'd be nice to see some loyalty once in a while from the players rather than them just chasing a massive pay day all the time.

JRam could have made a lot more money too.

I don’t think the Jays front office even attempted to sign him so hard to put all the blame on Bo.

Padres declined a 14M team option on Pivetta. His elbow must be cooked

Weird, especially since he came back in September and didn't pitch all that bad.

Michael King opted out of his deal. Had a 28M player option for 2027 with a 5M buyout and a 30M player option for 2028 after next season.

I guess mildly surprising that he took a 5M buyout instead of the 2/58 guarantee? He hasn't been great the last couple of years

I just read this today, that does not seem very wise?

Yeah, I know. Owners are worst, what can you do.

After checking out this year's Gold Glovers and looking at the defensive stats , it seems they weigh DRS way more over Statcast numbers, OAA and FRV specifically.

Most players were a slam dunk, but a few of them puzzled me especially, Walls and Young, their Statcast numbers blow. I'm going to stick with Tom Tango on using OAA/FRV over DRS. Bobby Witt Jr and to a much lesser extent, Chase Meidroth and Masyn Winn were stiffed in my opinion.

What do you folks think?

I never know what to believe for defensive stats. I take them all with a grain of salt, unless of course I need to make a point on here, in which case, they are gospel.

I do remember seeing something that by some stats, Walls was the next Ozzie Smith and by others, he was just average.

Yeah his DRS is exceptional but his OAA and FRV blow, this is what I'm talking about...

Take them for what they are. DRS is heavily influenced by the amount of plays a guy makes. A high DRS with a low OAA can simply mean he is always in a good position to make routine plays, and he had a really high number of routine plays.

OAA is more about range and speed and getting to balls other guys don't get to.

That can't be good man, it's a huge red flag.

His reputation around the league must be terrible. He's a 3-4 win player, and not only did the Yankees not want him back at 1/24 or whatever the QO is, they thought there was a real chance he'd accept it. This is the weirdest QO decision in recent memory.

It's insane to me that Jazz Chisolm didn't get a QO

Yanks overcorrecting to the Trent Grisham scenario. I think that's it.

Yes, it's nuts.

I really hope he wants a one year pillow deal and Toronto gets him. Could realistically get a 3+ WAR season for like $22M or less?

Posted

Yeah it might just be that they got screwed with the Grisham QO last year thinking he'd decline it and didn't want to revisit that. Hal isn't george. That $20M+ they gave to Grisham could not be spent elsewhere last year. I think that's the main reason. They didn't want Jazz to accept it. If they were certain he would decline it then I think they would have offered it. But who knows the real answer. The Yankees also have their golden boy Volpe available for 2B, so they might have just wanted a clear path to go that route.

Not sure I saw this, but a few days ago, Heston Kjerstad cleared waivers and was outrighted.  He's now a FA.

He was supposed to be a core piece of the Orioles dynasty
