This is old, but it's a good one. Phillips understood the assignment. He played the game full of joy. The way it was meant to be played. Love this sh*t jaysblue and Spanky__99 2
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Drake Baldwin: new BCIB? The defense is nothing impressive, but the offense might be getting better from last season, and the projections are buying it. Gen-Z Will Smith? Brownie19 1

Elite defense combined with 99th percentile xwOBA? The hitting doesn't seem sustainable though, his top end exit velo is not elite and the projections don't love him, so how long can he keep pummeling the baseball with like 50 grade power? Is the hit tool better than advertised? Brownie19 1

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted April 24 Posted April 24 The Mets I picked up tickets to see them against the Jays at the end of June. Thought I would be watching an elite team. jaysblue 1

Thought I would be watching an elite team. Should have waited. Tickets will probably be cheaper on StubHub or SeatGeek closer to the games. I never buy that far in advance. Always wait day off if I'm travelling on the road to see a ballgame. Especially Yankees/Mets tickets are usually cheaper resale than from the box office.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Phillies are 8-18 with a -53 run differential. Currently on a 10 game losing streak. Doubling down on that aging core and then just adding Adolis Garcia to the outfield thinking that would fix everything certainly hasn’t aged well. Losing the World Series in 2022 and then losing in the NLCS to the most mediocre team imaginable looks like their only shot with that group. Not sure how they fix it. There’s still a lot of time to turns things around this season and maybe they do but sure feels like the end of the road for that core group. Lots of money and years left on most of those players as well.

Lots of money and years left on most of those players as well. The Phillies have been really disappointing. I thought their pitching would make them the team to beat in that division, especially with Atlanta’s rotation already depleted by injuries to start the season. I still expect them to turn it around, but they need to start doing that soon. There’s too much talent on that roster for them to be irrelevant, unless all of their stars regress at the same time. Long term, though, the bigger issue is that they have an aging and expensive core. Their window is probably only another year or two - maybe even less if these early-season struggles turn out to be more than just a rough start.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted April 27 Posted April 27 The A's really seem to have a knack for finding bats out of nowhere. Soon to be 29 year old career minor leaguer Carlos Cortes, with just 99 career PA (all last season) coming into the year, has been on absolute fire. He's slashing .377/.433/.689 with just four strikeouts in 67 PA, almost entirely going against righties. It will be interesting to see how he's deployed now that Rooker ( who had been struggling) is back from injury Spanky__99 and jaysblue 2
