The_DH Verified Member Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 Is the next move maybe to trade Berrios for a closer?
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 Love this signing! A whole lot of Cease to exist ABs coming for hitters! Spanky__99 1
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 I drink coors light when I go out and I'm driving. Lower alcohol content. Don't want to drink and drive. The Jays might be Dodger light. Like i wouldn't be surprised if our payroll is 310 or 320. We're going to flex this off season..lol. Fans are going to hate us for buying a team. I love it!

bronson44 Verified Member Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 It`s just so cool that we are here. It was so frustrating for years with all the well we have only 18 million to spend this offseason to fit into our mid payroll parameters (remember passing the hat lol). They were sitting on a goldmine and I was longing for them to at least get up to the first luxury tax threshold but they would not. It`s very satisfying that we finally put on our big boy pants. Don`t stop now. L54, BatFlip and Woocash 3
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 Holy s*** Wanted Cease and Bo more than anyone else If they can afford it then do it Yankees and Red Sox can suck a dick L54 1
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 So they're going over the next tier luxury tax for a year So be it This is awesome BatFlip 1
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 Cease, Goose, Biebs, Savage, Lauerios is wild
Ray Verified Member Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 So it’s actually closer to $182M over 7 years with the deferrals? Thats basically what he was projected to get Massive W by Boss Atkins to get the best pitcher on the board this early in the offseason for basically what he was projected to get. L54, Jays24, Orgfiller and 2 others 5

The more I think about, Cease is clearly the most desirable arm on the market factoring in age/durability/skill/not being an ******* who deliberately crosses up your catcher Spanky__99, Gen.Disarray, Orgfiller and 2 others 3 2

It's a major f'ing statement, that's what it is. It clearly defines Toronto as a place to be. So Bo or Tucker and some moves for the bullpen. Jays24 and L54 2

You mean Bieber wasn't something to talk about. Look around the MLB, this is easily the biggest news of the off-season so far. Bieber opting in is also up there! Don't worry, be happy! These two deals are a fantastic start to the Jays off-season! Jays24, Spanky__99, Orgfiller and 2 others 5
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 fWAR since 2021... Cease and Gausman rank #3 and #4 in MLB. Jays24, Spanky__99, Pinkfloid and 1 other 4

thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 One thing going under the radar here for Cease is that he going from below average framing (SD) to one of the best in all of MLB in Kirk. Obviously the ABS system will devalue it a bit, but you can’t challenge every call.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 27, 2025 Author Posted November 27, 2025 Gray and Cease coming off the board the last two days while Baltimore is sitting on like 2 MLB starters BatFlip, Woocash, Terminator and 4 others 1 4 2

I see people saying he is up and down but if you look at his FIP by year it is remarkably consistent: 2021.....3.46 2022.....3.15 2023......3.62 2024.......3.25 2025......3.52 The guy is money. Bob_Gratton Verified Member Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 Great move from Atkins👍 So next steps, trade Berrios for a good reliever and prospects , then sign Tatsuya Imai. About Bichette, need to be careful and be 100% sure he's healthy. Tucker seem to be a safer gambling. Marte? Will cost too much. Arizona will want Barger or Clement + prospects like King, Parker.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 So still not even close to the Dodgers' deferral ******** on this one.

Can you breakdown FIP by inning? Obviously you would expect an increase deeper into the ballgame, but a couple of Padres fans I've been talking to say it is disproportionately true with Cease.

They are overreacting to his ERA this year Fangraphs has FIP etc splits for second and third time through the order
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 This honestly reminds me of Zack Wheeler to PHI. Who remembers when Zack Wheeler was kind of an enigma? Woocash, Orgfiller, Eat My Shatkins and 3 others 6

I think the front office has been more than willing to splash this kind of cash going all the way back to the 2020 offseason, they've just had a bit of difficulty in convincing the cream of the crop/upper tier free agents to take their money most years.
