Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Skubal is pumping gas approaching 100 pitches. He needs to stay in this game. BTS 1
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 99 pitches for Skubal. I'm leaving him out there for the 7th if I'm Hinch
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Broadcast is right. The other option was to walk Carpenter and let Kirby continue. Risk in that as well though - putting the go ahead run on base. I think bringing in the lefty is he right move. He's been so good and Carpenter is awful v. LHPing. Sometimes even the best (correct?) decision just don't work out. That's baseball. Perfect Game and Orgfiller 2

I’d be genuinely disappointed if he doesn’t get the chance to get through the 7th barring some trouble on the bases. The guy is still pumping triple digits and completely overwhelmed Raleigh. I just let him go at least until someone makes it to second base.
SeranthonySantander Verified Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Let’s do 120 pitches on skubal, he barely ever does more than 100. They won’t use him short rest
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 At 99 pitches I don’t think there’s any chance he’s not coming back out. Only question really is if you let him finish the inning at 115-120 pitches. I say the answer is still yes. I only consider taking him out if he allows a base runner around the 115th pitch.

It’s not like Gleyber Torres and Riley Greene coming up, again for a third look against Kirby, are good matchups for him. And you run the risk the reliever shits the bed. Go with the hot hand in Kirby, or the unknown in Speier? Speier has had blow ups. I put Carpenter on 1st and continue with the hot hand.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 I'm not sure I care which team wins, but I'd love to see it go 20 innings :) Waylanderz and Jimcanuck 2

BTS Community Moderator Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Looks like Skubal is done. Tigers deserve to lose if so philly30 1

Kirby’s numbers are historically MUCH worse a third time through the lineup. At that point you’re risking the game getting out of hand by leaving him out there. Just because the reliever coming in blew it doesn’t mean it wasn’t the right move to make. The odds of that homer happening are much lower than one of the other guys beating Kirby.
Alejandro Murphy Verified Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 FWIW about pitcher vs batter duel like Vlad owned Rodon against Skubal Vlad batting 600 .714 OBP 1.20 SLG% 1.9 OPS owned him in a small sample size (5 AB)
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 I can't believe people are talking about walking Carpenter with nobody out in the 6th inning of a 1-run game Orgfiller and Omar 1 1
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Hinch should let Skubal pitch the 7th and roll with a well rested Will Vest for 2 innings. Nobody but your very best should pitch in a game like this.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Would be nice if the Ms could tie this up and then have the game go about 20 innings or so. Waylanderz 1

Leave him in or take him out, either decision can be defended. I'm in the leave him in camp, because of his performance up to that point. Same reason I thought taking Berrios out was wrong.
Doubleplay21 Verified Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Detroit batters really cannot hit sliders and off spreed as the broadcast have said

The Blue Jays scored zero runs that game, and the pitchers only gave up 2! It wasn’t even the wrong call by the results.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 If the M's end up losing, Dan Wilson is going to get skewered for pulling Kirby.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Pulling Skubal is f***ing crazy. If I am the Tigers GM he better hopes the bullpen holds this. Because if this backfires Hinch not taking the team charter home.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Pulling Skubal with less 100 pitches could go down in Tigers lore as a pretty bad decision. Finnegan looks shaky.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Like either way Skubal isn’t pitching Sunday or Monday. Why not ride him for one more inning? Perfect Game 1

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Also if Dan Wilson leaves Kirby in. Lets him face a guy who is 6-6 off him and goes deep. He never hears the end of it either. He made statistically the right move. BTS 1
