Varland pitched 2 innings yesterday,  so normal he wasn't good today

4 games in 5 days. Two of those appearances with a 4 run lead, 1 with a 3 run lead, and the one day he didn't pitch in that stretch was when the Jays were up 2 in the 9th and ended up blowing it.

You're right.  It seems like a fine line to walk with Hoffman. The more worked he is the better he seems to be.  You saw how long layoffs have impacted him this year.
