jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Tonight's game will likely be the most challenging with Ryan on the mound. If the Jays can take Game 1, they have a great chance at a sweep. Jays should be good taking Game 2. Ober has been awful this season and Bassitt is pitching at home. Game 3: Lauer vs TBD. Stangstag and Gen.Disarray 2
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Nice to be back home. 18 home games left, only 13 road games. Jays have had some sloppy or bad road series in the last few weeks and it's amazing they are still out in front by this much. sloppy Miami series, lucky to win 2 lost 2 of 3 in Pitt got lucky to win 1 in LA dummied at BAL 2 game sweep to Oakland limp final game loss to CHW Really just the two solid road series since the start of July - Colorado and Detroit. Stangstag, Gen.Disarray and Jays24 2 1

Home field during the Postseason is going to be really important. Jays most likely to get the #2 seed, though getting the #1 seed in the AL would be nice guaranteeing home field right through to the ALCS. Gen.Disarray 1

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 The Yankees' schedule is so cake from here on out. Hopefully Baltimore shows up for the 7 games against them. They've been playing better and probably hate the Yankees as much as anyone so they should be motivated. Gen.Disarray 1
Gen.Disarray Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Over/under 15.5 on Jays wins for the rest if the season? I say over, but barely, like 16-17 games. How many wins do you think will it take to win the division? I think 93 gets it done for sure, maybe 92.

This MIN series is probably the easiest but they start it off against Joe Ryan. Every other series is a playoff team or hopeful, or Baltimore / Tampa which won't be easy games. CIN and KCR will not be easy series. The Yankees still get CHW TWICE!!!! and MIN and WSH Red Sox still get PIT, CLE, ARI, and Oakland TWICE!!!

Fangraphs (who considers the schedule) is projecting the Yankees to finish with 89 wins and the Red Sox to finish with 87. Since we own the tiebreakers, I do think 89 wins could realistically take the division but that would be cutting it close. 90 and up and we have a great shot. Like you said 93 or even 92 probably gets it done for sure. Gen.Disarray 1

That series against Boston was a lol. Terrible defense still plagues them Spanky__99 and Terminator 2

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Here's an example of where things stand. If we go 15-16 the rest of the way, that gives us 91 wins. In order to get to 92, the Yanks would need to go 22-10 the rest of the way. Their schedule is cake, but even so they do have to play us, the Astros, the Tigers and the Red Sox. If we go 16-15, the Yanks have to go 23-9, etc..... Gen.Disarray and Stangstag 2
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 In other words, today is a must-win game Stangstag, Waylanderz, Gen.Disarray and 1 other 4
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Just keep winning series and we'll be fine, tbh, I'm looking forward to beating the Brewers on the weekend. Gen.Disarray and Stangstag 1 1
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Jays are sitting comfortably ahead of both Boston and New York. Avoid a losing streak of 5-6 games in September, and the Jays should be fine. Even still, Boston or New York would have to make up ground over those games, which likely amounts to 2 or 3 games. Yes makes it closer for comfort, but doubt either team surpasses Toronto. More worried about the #1 and #2 seeds. It's so important to grab one in order to avoid a WC matchup and to at least get home field in the DS. Stangstag and Gen.Disarray 2
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Just keep taking it one game and one series at a time and less looking ahead, you can't change a schedule but winning games solves everything. Why are we looking to go 15-16 or 16-15? Spanky__99 1
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Jays stumbling and fumbling a bit of late but still somehow hold 5 game lead in the division. Time to lock in and drive it home.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Unsurprising to see the struggling Barger get a day off to reset mentally, but seeing Ernie at 3B with how brutal he's been at the plate lately sucks even more lol. Since his little 3-game HR surge, he's gone 3-40 with 1BB, including going 0-17 in his last 4 games. Governator and Barrelsandbombs 2

Clement has a 67 wRC+ in his last 51 games, and his numbers against LHP haven't even been good over that span (72 wRC+). That stretch makes up about 46% of his total season PA's, so he hasn't been good for a while. Not sure why a day off for him is once in a lifetime, but guys like Barger, DS, etc, can get extra rest and/or be platooned. I know this team values defense heavily, and Clement is great defensively, but at some point you might want to mix things up a bit.
harvey16 Verified Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Jays basically need to play .500 ball the rest of the way to win the division. Having the tiebreaker against both the Yankees and Red Sox is huge. That being said we need to make sure we get the #1 or #2 seed to avoid playing in the WC round. As we all know we don't have a good history in WC games (1-6). Also playing a 3 game series is such a crap shoot.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 I agree with everyone on the #1 or 2 seed but the calculus doesn't change a whole lot compared to winning the AL East. 80.5% chance to win the East and 72.5% chance to secure a bye. The Astros and Mariners fading a lot, with the Tigers not doing a whole lot to run away with things has really helped. Gen.Disarray 1
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Are the Jays really stumbling and bumbling? They're 6-4 in their last 10 games (.600) which is a better win percentage than they've put up this entire season so far (.585) where they are in 3rd place in all of MLB. If that's stumbling and bumbling I hope they keep stumbling and bumbling for the rest of the season and playoffs. John_Havok, Spanky__99 and Gen.Disarray 2 1
