What are his options? Varland was the right choice, just not pitching that well. Pitch selection could be an issue too.

Yea I think he needs to go to 70% FB 30% k-curve. His FB is really good

Every win, ugly or not is a GREAT win!! What a relief. That was one of those where if you lose, you feel like the death spiral is coming. If you win, you get to keep chuggin' along toward that pennant. Of course that probably isn't reality, but that's how it was feeling. :)  Go Jays!!

I don’t think he should be coming into a game with runners on base. Similar to little. Dont trust those guys with inherited runners.

A pitcher like Varland needs to use his upper 90's fastball early in order to set up his off speed, not come in and throw four straight off speed pitches to scrubs who don't even really know him well. Bottom of the order hitters won't respect your fastball until they see it. You're just speeding up their bats by going off speed right out of the pen.

You do what you gotta do to win the game. You would just rather your closer secure it so you don't have to use your entire Bullpen to win.

Can't even put into words or vital this victory was. Red Sox who are coming off their World Series by sweeping the Yankees are still 5 games back and have barely moved in the Standings.

Oh yea I forgot it was a 4 game series. Today feel's more like Sunday to me because my work schedule this week. It would actually be more helpful for the Yankees to actually win one tomorrow than lol.
