Curious to see the return on this one.

It will be a win for the Phillies if they don't include Painter.

As much as it would be nice adding a Starter and another Bullpen piece. Can't be forgetting about a bat.

Orioles gave us a firm reminder how much slugging helps.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that those two prospects are catcher Eduardo Tait and right-handed pitcher Mick Abel.

If that's true, WTaF is Minnesota doing

They are getting Duran for a single 45 FV prospect that is like 4 years away and their equivalent of Bowden Francis? That's awfully cheap.

I'm not sanguine that Houser will be a good fit for us.  Hopefully Ross has something better in mind.

Yeah that seems pretty light for Duran. I was expecting it to be a massive overpay. Obviously it depends on how Tait develops, but an 18 year old catcher could be like 5 years away.

lol the Twins

Surely we could have easily beat the Phillies offer

With prospects... everything is in the eye of the acquiring GM. They might have wildly different valuations on guys, but... while I agree the catching prospect is highly regarded... he's still far away and the pitching prospect seems underwhelming.

Tait is basically catching Nimmala (they are ranked very similar, for example BA has NImmala at #42 and Tait at #50) and Mick Abel has way more pedigree than someone like Francis considering that he was a Top 100 prospect.

Absolutely

Just venting after seeing the return and I really thought our top prospects were on the table for exactly this kind of reliever - we won't know for sure

Getting Kirk, Springer and Varsho back is a massive boost though. Even Giminez.

If you can get a bat without giving much of anything up, sure but they desperately need pitching.

I just don’t understand why you do this deal today if you’re the Twins. Why not wait til tomorrow morning and see if you get a better offer? Just a weird trade

Morosi on MLB network talking up this deal and saying its a huge haul for Minny lolll. “Its definitely a major sellers market”

How close is Shane Beiber to pitching this year

He’s pitching rehab starts already, so maybe a couple weeks?

Fangraphs ranks Nimmala similarly, but they aren't nearly as high on Tait, as he's unranked with a 45+ FV.

I don't really see the appeal of Abel, given his age, poor performance, and extreme control problems. He looks like a reliever to me.

I think we could have beaten this.

Maybe we're saving our chips for another piece. Right now a frontline starter is more valuable than a reliever since we just grabbed a reliever. I still would like another reliever, a lefty would be nice, but the priority now is a starter.

Helsley is apparently being traded to the Mets

6:14pm: There’s an agreement in place sending Helsley to Queens for infield prospect Jesus Baez and two additional minor leaguers, reports Anthony DiComo of MLB.comNate Dohm and Frank Elissalt are also in the deal, Heyman reports.

Gotta be a cool feeling to know that the centerpiece of the trade for you is Jesus.

Abel is only 23 so there's definitely upside there but you just never know is a 2/3 or a 4/5.  Currently his K's per 9 isn't that great @7.x (which is the first thing I look at)

I’m gonna be pretty pissed if we don’t acquire anyone of note. We need to be adding at least 1 of the highly-touted guys.

I don’t think there’s a single team that had a good playoff run that didn’t acquire a major piece at the deadline.

Helsley to the Mets.

So we're looking at Bednar, and maybe Fairbanks left as high end relief arms.
