They should shoot hard for Alcantara

Yeah a few on the board have mentioned him.  I say go for broke and try for Peralta cause you know the Yankees will.

Trout looks kinda washed. What a waste that we never got to see prime Trout do anything in the playoffs.

It's really sad

Meanwhile Ohtani moves across town and wins titles

Milwaukee would need to go on a pretty bad stretch to want to trade away Peralta. Theyre firmly in a WC spot and still in striking distance of the division.

They may not be top-shelf buyers, but i highly doubt they're sellers.

They dumped Burnes so they aren't afraid to move a valuable expiring asset and with his contract expiring after 2026 he may be able to get.  All off season his name was bandied about so there's that.

The Brewers are in a playoff spot and Peralta makes a very reasonable salary, so I don't think they move him at the deadline. In the winter seems more likely.

Alcantara seems like more of a possibility, although his ERA is above 7.00 now, so not the best time to trade him if you're the Marlins. A 7.01 ERA and 4.56 FIP....Jays defense can fix him.

Sure that all makes sense but I want to Win.  Even though he had a good June I'm not convinced.  We will have to defer to Ross.

Other than FB velocity, Sandy's statcast page is ocean blue right now, so it would definitely be a risk for 2025 as he'd be bumping Lauer out of the rotation, but the mix of upside and cost certainty (2026 + team option for 2027) is very enticing, especially if there's a chance you can get him for a little bit less due to his performance. But yeah we will see what Ross has in mind.

Imagine you’re Sam Backman

Former first round pick who has dealt with injuries and finally made the league

You’ve been working on your craft for years and are throwing 99 out of the pen

Come into a tie game in the 10th with the ghost runner on 2nd

You know you suck at fielding and look over and see the tomato-faced manager of the blue jays with a s*** eating grin on his face

Jays have 4 slap hitting bunters coming up and the fastest guy in baseball on 2nd

Sam Backman had ZERO chance of getting that game to the 11th lmao

Oh yeah, #1 in wRC+ at home.

I don't understand how these types of stats took off... who really cares how they would have done if it was in another ballpark. lol They either get a hit or they don't, drive in a run or they don't, etc.

And John Schneider is terrorizing this league with an onslaught of bunts, the likes of which haven’t been seen since the 1970s

The league is shook and this team is incredible

No more "chicks dig the long ball." John Schneider is going to change that phrase to "chicks dig the bunt."

Yeah I don't see them moving Peralta given their position in the standings. He still has one more year of control anyways and they could trade him during the offseason, which they most likely will as we saw what they did with Burnes, Devin Williams etc.

This is Toronto you're talking about, they would never call a woman a "chick" and certainly not assume she is attracted to men.

I've seen it suggested in various online venues that Edward Cabrera of the Marlins may be available in trade. I think he's a more realistic get than Peralta given how mediocre the Marlins have been this season. I had a look at his pitch mix in Statcast and he features an interesting blend. Oddly enough his upper 90's 4 seamer and sinker are by far his worse pitches as they are each hit very hard. Based on the heat maps it appears as this is largely due to poor command with too many center cut fastballs.

Cabrera features two elite secondary pitches in his slider and curveball which have garnered 45% and 40% whiff rates respectively. One thing that stood out was that Statcast has him throwing a 94 MPH changeup which has been far more effective than either of his fastballs, so he could be better off largely shelving the fastballs in favor of a slider/curveball/changeup mix.

Chad Green is pounding on the door to enter the circle of trust.

As bad as he's been for much of the season Green came up huge in the Yankees series and in last night's game. I'd still prefer him to be the last leverage option in the bullpen who is primarily used when better options are unavailable, but it is a bonus that he has been justifying his continued employment in recent outings.

4.56 fip is nothing to lead a rotation though. Yeah there's a history of better stuff, but ... when I'm in a playoff push i want much more certainty in what im getting.

Not saying he wouldn't be a worthy trade target with the 2 more years after this one, but who is he better than in the rotation even right now? His FIP is only better than Scherzer, but unless he gets hurt again... he's gonna be in the rotation. Lauer has earned his spot, and the top 3 aren't going anywhere.

I think if you target SP, it's gotta be a near-ace or better, with much more certainty than Alcantara brings, IMO
