This is a must win after losing 2 in a row to the Mariners.

Astros lost a close one yesterday to the Padres. Their lineup isn't anything good outside of Altuve, Alvarez and Walker. Cam Smith is an intriguing guy though. Yainer Diaz has struggled heavily in the early going. Hopefully the Jays pitchers could carve up their lineup!

I know it would be a s.hitty thing to do, but I'm surprised that we didn't option Schultz for a fresh arm.

There's not much depth in the 40-man remaining due to the injuries. The last 40-man pitchers we have in AAA are Bloss, Macko (injured) and Josh Walker who doesn't provide much length. Schultz is likely sticking around until one of the injured RPs come back.

Or Easton Lucas...

Lucas has now given us the full Jekyll and Hyde performance with two excellent starts followed by two awful ones. His next one will be crucial for him to determine if he can stick. The one silver lining in this Saturday start is the strikeouts were still there. If he blows up again I could see Jake Bloss getting the call with Lucas being optioned.

Off days Thursday and Monday

Less pressure to HAVE to use Lucas or expect 5+ IP if they do

Those off days are going to help

Lucas currently lines up to face the Yankees on Saturday in NY. We might need to treat that as more of a bullpen game.

Yeah the Yankees lead the league in HR's and wRC+, the latter by a significant margin. Lucas most likely is going to get crushed at Yankee Stadium. Do some kind of piggyback with him and Schultz and hope for the best.

A win today would be huge

A lot of pressure on Gausman unfortunately

Handling the pressure is why Gausman is being paid the big bucks. He can and should be able to give us a good start here when we need it.

Oh boy.  Just throw in the white towel and save everyone the pain.  The over/under for IP by Lucas that say might be 1 2/3's

  1. Gausman vs. Brown
  2. Bassitt vs. Blanco
  3. Francis vs. Gusto
  • The pitching matchups are pretty even. Today is probably the only one that I'd tilt their way.
  • Our pen is more rested than theirs. All of their top guys have thrown 2 out of the past 3 days.
  • Their offense is scuffling badly to start the year. They rank toward the bottom in most categories.

Going to be a really close series. Coinflips for all 3 games.

If we can survive this 6 game road trip we should be in good shape as the schedule finally softens up a little.

I think I'd be happy if we go 2-4 on this road trip.  These won't be easy and we're playing some embarrassingly bad baseball right now.

2-4 wouldn't be the end of the world so long as we don't get swept by the Yanks.

3-3 is a good, realistic goal though.

Looks like we will be getting Carlos Carrasco for one of the Yankee games but they'll be facing Easton Lucas in the other. Hopefully we can split those and then it comes down to Gausman vs. Schmidt for the rubber match.

Is this your thing where you become insufferable for a week to prove a point about the other insufferable posters? The Jays just went 3-3 the last week, and one of those games could have easily gone their way with some more timely hitting. Let's not add to the pile of annoying posters that come with the gloom and doom as the team sits firmly in second place in the ALE.

Yes - 100% it's my thing.  My optimism is gone for a bit and you should expect lots of sharp, belligerent posts from me in the future.  This team is f*cking useless and I can literally see it draining the enjoyment/fandom out of my 9 year old.

What do you think the probability of the Jays going 3-3 or better over the next 6 road games?  I think we'd be ecstatic with a 3-3 record.

I see the Jays taking 2 of 3 from the Astros.

Like Term said, Astros pen isn't as rested as the Jays. As well, their lineup has underachieved greatly so far.

They did, they optioned Easton Lucas and called up Walker. 2 off days the next 2 weeks, they don't need a 5th starter ATM.

I got 3 responses saying that 🤣. The news hasn't been announced at the time that I made the post.
