MLB Insider and Broadcaster Mike Rodriguez is reporting that the Toronto Blue Jays and Vladimir Guerrero Jr are "very close to finalizing a $500-million plus extension".

It's been a roller coaster of an offseason for the Jays and their star corner infielder, but it looks like the ride is about to come to an end in the form of an extension.

In his first seven games of the season, the slugger is slashing .222/.290/.333 with no home runs, three runs scored, and three runs batted in.

Sure I guess

Could be $350m actual value but $501m on paper to make Vlad happy

I mean that matters a lot

I don’t care what Rogers has to pay, I care about the numbers the payroll guy has to crunch

I didn’t anticipate liking the Santander deal but isn’t his luxury tax hit like 14M?

ClubRoss should be on the edge of their seat to see what sort of magic he worked

It's going to be some 14 year deal where in 4 years from now, we are going to be who the fk was stupid enough to give him that contract and there are still like 10 years left. Then we will all be like, oh ya, it was Shatkins.

And funnily enough, I don't think it will be their fault. There's just no way they would give out that type of contract to a player like Vlad. They aren't stupid.

This has transcended team president level, and is likely being handled by ownership at this point.

Vladdy will be this franchise's big "Arte Moreno" moment.

They must think it’ll do irreparable damage to the “casual” market if he walked. There’s no way this FO believes he’s worth 500M.

definitely believe this is the work of ownership

Or it's just not true. Dominican media have been leaking stuff like this for months.

Outcome Matrix

1. It's not even true 😀

2. It's true but the value is way lower 🫡

3. It's true and it's $500m real dollars 🤢🤮

Yeah if this happens then it's all Rogers. No chance Shatkins values Vlad as a $500M player when he can't field the lowest position on the defensive totem pole on top of being the worst baserunner in the league at age 25 and only having 2 great offensive seasons in 6 years. This contract will age like milk left outside on a hot day. One thing Shapiro said weeks ago during his post-Vlad deadline press conference was that ownership was involved in this deal, and he mentioned Ed and Staffieri by name. This goes beyond Shapiro, which is unfortunate because he could have been the logic in the room, but if this is actually happening, then logic was clearly pushed aside.

Rumors were Vlad wanted 500M at least with 0 deferrals.  If that's the deal we sign for a guy who is replacement level half the time then it'll be franchise crippling considering the length it'll be.

X translation: "I've received information through various channels that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a $500 million, 14-year deal. It seems an official announcement will be made any moment now. Congratulations to Vladi."

Man, it's really happening, isn't it?

If 500/14 is the best deal the Jays can get then might as well wait until free agency and hope to match the best offer.  There is 0 discount on that deal to do it now.

Could have had him for 300M last year if the Jays wanted to jump the gun.  Putting up great numbers once all the pressure was off last year shouldn't change your opinion to increase the offer by 200M..
