There's no way the Jays plan to use Gimenez 5th and Kirk 8th simply because of being a lefty/righty correct?

Haven't they mostly been doing 5th and 6th?

Springer/Gimenez have been batting 4th/5th and 5th/6th.

Kirk has batted balls of 107.7 and 109.5 mph today. He's scorching the baseball in ST.

Ya that's why I've been saying to move him right after our big 3.  Would be a huge boost to the lineup if he can regain his allstar form again.

Hope Schneider isn't stuck on the idea of splitting our lefties to the detriment of the overall lineup.

I believe he's talked about batting Kirk after Gimenez - primarily because Gimenez can steal bases and help keep Kirk out of double plays.  It would also allow better L/R splits.  We'll soon see what his plan is.

While those things are true, i think its also flawed.  Gimenez would need to be a high OBP guy to actually make that scenario practical.

I prefer having Kirk up to bat in run driving positions that would come with batting right after the big 3.  I see Gimenez more likely being a rally killer than a guy who will keep it going and be on base for Kirk based on his performance the past 2 seasons.

Sure - I get that.  If we end up with 2024 Gimenez and 2022 Kirk - then I suspect you'd see Kirk moved up and this plan abandoned.  But if we get 2024 Kirk, there's really no need to push him higher in the lineup.

I don't have an issue with them starting out with that configuration until we see how they are performing.  That said, the way Kirk's been hitting the ball in the spring, I'd have a short leash.

Springer is causing my eyes to bleed.  Let's hope he's getting his "slow start" out of the way this spring.

Crazy how quickly he’s seemingly declined. After that collision with Bo in the playoffs his stats have taken an absolute nosedive

No kidding. Normally I don't care one iota about spring performance unless I'm huffing hopium but he's been so damn bad I can't help but be a little alarmed.

I think there is a very good chance Springer is released sometime mid season. This front office has a reputation of treating veteran players really well, so I would imagine they will give him a ton of rope and undeserved time higher in the batting order, but enough will be enough at some point, especially if Roden is killing it in AAA. It just sucks that we will probably have to wait until Springer has a 58 wRC+ in his first 200 PA before we see a move. I'm still holding out hope on the 2% chance he's traded (with the Jays kicking in damn near all of his money) to the Astros before the start of the season.

It's only spring so it doesn't matter, but Guerrero has been putting up a very mediocre camp. Lots of singles, groundballs, hasn't been driving the ball in the air often, .140 ISO. Whatever, as long as he gets it together for the start of the regular season.

I think I saw a tweet from Chris Black the other day, he's batting below .200 since he hurt his wrist on a swing, and it had the clip. He certainly shot pain through the wrist when I watched it. *sighs*

Toronto doesn't have a lot of spring training sadness on the hitting side. Lots of Spring Training Heroes with an OPS over .900:

Roden, Barger, Schneider, Varsho, Bichette, Straw, Clement, Gimenez

Kirk doing well on both sides of the ball.

Even guys like Lukes/Wagner/Loperfido with .700s OPS numbers have decent K and BB rates.

The only real Spring Training Bums are Springer and maybe Clase and Leo Jimenez.

Pitching side... is not as rosy. Some concerning springs. Bit of a mixed bag. One guy looks good, the guy beside him has been hit hard.

Doesn't matter, because like you said Guerrero doesn't miss any games and has no injury concerns!

lol... it's still true he's durable, the clip is speculative. You're too much man, and I said he doesn't have injury history. All athletes carry injury concern to some degree.

If he’s “durable” but has a bunch of nagging injuries (wrist and knee) that keep him from playing at an elite level, how is that a good thing?
