All we heard was how desperate they were and ready to spend their way out of this mess. They've been putting cold water on almost everything to the point I feel it must be deliberate. Who knows lol. There's absolutely some truth to this but I don't think Shi and BNS are necessarily in on it. When Boras is breastfeeding Heyman, Morosi and other dipshit journos a bunch of false info that gets immediately tweeted out, the team will probably feed BNS and Shi a little bit of info to try and balance the scales. With the Jays in on both, Boras isn’t going to let one of Bregman or Alonso sign with us until he’s got the deal ready for the other. So either way they should both sign pretty close together no matter where they end up. Maaan Boras seems like a nightmare to deal with. I can totally believe this is true Terminator 1

Any offer you give him he'll take and parade around the league for weeks on end trying to get someone to beat it lol. On the flipside, if you have the biggest offer he probably advises his client to take it and they usually do unless someone's wife overrules him (Corbin Burnes). Yesterday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today said that the Jays are "still interested" in Pete Alonso. Now, Héctor Gómez is reporting that they have a three-year offer out to him and a six-year offer out to Alex Bregman. The fit would be interesting if both players were to accept. Adding Alonso would push Vladimir Guerrero Jr over to the hot corner. Alex Bregman has stated that he is open to playing second base, but the Jays have newly acquired Andrés Giménez at the Keystone. As of now, Will Wagner is penciled in as the teams designed hitter, but he projects to be more of a bench bat than a full-time player. If Alonso and Bregman were to accept their respective deals, they could theoretically play a game of musical chairs at DH. While it would be interesting to see how that works out, it's a no brainer to add both if the Jays can pull that off. View full rumor Do you suppose there is a chance that one of them has accepted already and they are doing Boras a favour of holding off on announcing so it doesn’t take them out as a suited for his other client?

We can only hope but I doubt anyone would take the chance to not formally sign if they had the chance. Literally anything can happen to cause an injury that would make the team pull an offer.

Atkins didn't get Soto, Burnes, or Sasaki, but at least their pivot was Santander, Scherzer and Hoffman as free agents thus far, and they traded for Gimenez. I'm sure Bassitt and other players definitely feel better about this team heading into the 2025 season than they did a month ago or last March/April. This was a much better offseason than last! This season featured a much better overall crop of hitters compared to the 2023/2024 offseason. Bassitt himself mentioned how there really wasn't a very effective pivot once you moved past Ohtani. The next best options were guys like Teoscar, Chapman, Bellinger and not much else. This crop was much deeper and after Soto and presented a lot more options for team building in free agency. Bassett should just keep his mouth shut and pitch. Everytime the guy opens his mouth people act like he's Yoda talking. He's a mediocre journeyman pitcher who doesn't have a single great pitch so he relies on six different ones. He is lucky to be employed in the majors.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 Very harsh. Bassit is a solid league average kitchen sink arm. However, I do agree that people tend to overvalue his statements/opinions. Not sure why. The perception that he is smart because he is a crafty pitcher? Is he actually smart? I dunno. Maybe. He is lucky to be employed in the majors. That's a pretty rough assessment. Bassitt was a late bloomer who carved out a nice career as a number 3 pitcher in his 30's. I have plenty of respect for guys like Bassitt who carve out successful careers based on effectively mixing their pitches and using a more cerebral approach vs simply overpowering hitters with top end stuff. I think he got himself in a bit of hot water by being too forthcoming on a podcast but that's a pretty small complaint. Gen.Disarray and Orgfiller 2

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 We can start the year without another big bat. It's not ideal (as it limits out options to trades only), but it's also not the end of the world IMO.

For me, the ceiling of the team being a World Series contender is dependent upon adding another massive bat. We can still be a contender for a low wild card spot but the excitement level would be different for that. Especially since we're heavily rumored on Alonso and I've already gotten my heart set on seeing him or Bregman here lol
