Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2025 Posted January 26, 2025 The Tigers, Houston Astros, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox are in the hunt to sign Bregman, who has a six-year, $156 million offer from the Astros on the table. The Astros have been trying to shed payroll to keep Bregman, will any other teams step up and beat their offer? https://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2025/01/26/detroit-tigers-alex-bregman-rumors-tarik-skubal-jack-flaherty/77957308007/ View full rumor
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2025 Author Posted January 26, 2025 Going to guess the Astros freeing up money by trading Pressly is a precursor to bringing him back? Then they'll also need to trade Peredes most likely.

Stop being the post police because clearly no one gives a cares about your whining dude, the news cycle continue in the off-season.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted January 26, 2025 Posted January 26, 2025 If the Jays got Alonso tonight, I wonder if they'd still be in on Bregman... That'd be awesome. I don't give a s*** how much money they spend. Spanky99 1

No one wants to be a full time DH at that age when still trying to seek big dollars.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted January 26, 2025 Posted January 26, 2025 1. Bo SS 2. Vlad 1B 3. Alonso DH 4. Santander LF 5. Bregman 3B 6. Springer LF 7. Kirk C 8. Giminez 2B 9. Varsho CF Yes please Spanky99 1
Chappy Community Moderator Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 No way we get both Alonso and Bregman. Right now 1 would be lucky considering Bregman has multiple options and Pete wants to stay in NY. If we can get Pete then pivot and grab the best SP who will sign with us. Gen.Disarray, Blue balls and Jays24 3

Alonso and Max are still a possibility which would be great! My hopes are way up. I'm kinda used to being disappointed though at this point.

Id we can get one of Bregman or Alonso and a capable SP I'll take back all the bad things I've said about Dannon and the Roki debacle. Giminez Santandar Alonso or Bregman Flaherty, Max or Pivetta Hoffman and Sandlin Is a pretty good haul. He really needs to improve the development/drafting but this off-season is already miles ahead of last off-season Jays24 1

The pen looks solid as of now and I’m not sure they are done with it yet. It’s been a solid offseason as is but we need another bat or SP at the minimum for us to realistically be a threat.

Picking up another big bat could go a long way to convincing some of those that the team is legit next year.

Signing a starter adds Rodriguez to the bullpen depth and I think that should be good enough, assuming Hoffman is ready to become our closer.

I agree and if not Scherzer, my first realistic choice all off season has Flaherty and would help bridge the gap as we lose guys like Bassit next winter. Spanky99 1

Houston has natural advantages over us, of course. So we probably have to beat their offer by a good bit. Nightengale says 6 for 180 makes him think but with no state income tax and it being the only team he's played for it might take 7 years which starts to get pretty damn scary if you map it out. Age 31: 4 WAR Age 32: 3.5 3 2.5 2 1.5 Age 37: 1

Jays should just go 4 years to get Alonso than 7 years for Bregman. Spanky99 and Terminator 2

Gen.Disarray Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2025 Posted January 29, 2025 Would you guys prefer Alonso 3 for $90mil or Bregman 6 for $180mil?

I would be happy with either just because the Jays become MUCH better in the immediatate short term. Bregman is the better fit because of his defense at 3B but i'm much more confident in Alonso being good throughout his contract while I expect Bregman to fall off in his last 2 years. Funky 1
Rimar Verified Member Posted January 30, 2025 Posted January 30, 2025 I will choose Bregman, because we need a 3B who can hit and bring good defensive, also it's clear that Alonso only use the Jays to get a better offer from the Mets. But on other hands, if Atkins really offered 6/180M to Bregman and he didn't signed yet, main he probably wait for a better offer from the Astros or Red Sox. Ideally we should sign Bregman and Flaherty., With Bregman at 3B, can use Clement at 2B or SS when trading Bichette, without the need find replacement to play SS. In fact, can even trade Bichette for prospects, and use these prospects to acquire Robert Jr. Springer VLAD Robert jr Santander Bregman Clement Kirk Varsho Gimenez
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
