I think the Jays have succeeded in keeping the big league pitchers healthy because they haven't gone as slider crazy as other team. They've gone splitter crazy.

I'm not really sure it will be a massive joke if we don't land Sasaki.  The fact that we are one of the last two teams standing for a 23 year old Japanese phenom where money doesn't appear to be an issue.  Maybe the Jays are more impressive of a destination than some think.  

Don't get me wrong it will suck if we lose him to the Dodgers but its not the egg in the face you make it out to be.  And if we don't get him, we have $10M to spend in IFA which isn't nothing either.

Gauseman is really the only one who is splitter crazy. Bassit throws one but less than 5% of the time. Berrios doesn't throw one and Kikuchi didn't either.

Nah it's because they've targeted pitchers with a history of durability at the big league level.

Whereas in the minors it's just a massive crapshoot, and we've been unlucky.

Imagine if Sasaki told the Dodgers and Jays they'd have to max out on the bonus pool allotment to get him to sign and no team would deal with the Dodgers and we end up getting him because of that.

Francis and Swanson/Sandlin in relief

And I believe both Bassitt and Francis didn't start throwing the splitter until recently so it does point to an organization that is starting to value the splitter and is investing in its development

I would agree if we didn't make any additional transactions as part of this pursuit.  Fans won't give 2 shits if we got additional IFA space if it means we have less budget to improve the team in 2025.  This is something that would be good for a REBUILDING team, not a team that has so much at stake with their 2 best players about to hit free agency.

I really don't care what the casual fans think, tbh.  Granted this FOs player development has been shite so maybe taking on some dead money to increase the bonus pool is a lose lose.  Either way, I suspect the budget may not be as tight as we previously thought if we are taking on Straw who should be an OK 4OF type but if we are still planning on signing a LF then we are going to have a crowded outfield, Straw does have options though.  

And if we miss out on Sasaki and the contract talk with Vlad don't go well then we are more then likely staring down barrel at a rebuild anyway.

Bichette is the real wildcard here.  I suspect if they do land Sasaki and get an extension with Vlad, they'll probably just play it out with Bo but if they can get a bidding war going for him it may be best to move him even if they plan on competing.

Well my point was in response to pitcher health and specially the rotation. Bassit and Francis recently throwing splitters has nothing to do with the rotation being healthy the last few years.
