Every time I hear Bob Uecker's name I think of when Norm Macondald and Artie Lange went on Howard Stern and told stories. Had me pissing my pants laughing listening to Norm's impression.

AJ Minter to the Mets. 2/$22M

Same AAV as Heff Joffman despite Minter coming off a -0.1 fWAR season, projecting for 0.5 WAR (Jeff is 1.3) and a big stuff/velo dropoff.

Half of MLBTR readers are apparently stupid. Which isn't surprising really.

I am curious, which half are you referring to?  Personally, I wouldn’t trade a season for a cap.  Even with a cap (or capped salaries) players will still choose the allure and sunshine of LA over other locations.  So now other teams will have to pay a larger percentage of their cap to attract players essentially still giving the LA and NY teams an advantage.

The half that would trade an entire season for a cap. I wouldn't want a cap if it cost 0 games, let alone if it wiped out a season.

Brian Giles was a f*cking beast back in the day.

Dude had a 21% BB / 11.5% K rate, with a .622 SLG% in 2002.  Dude could mash.  If he started earlier, or could just have sustained it a hair longer, he's in the HOF

I think he means Soto was Giles. He was a freak back then.

I mean you just posted a tweet about Tim Anderson signing a minor league deal with the Angels, what exactly do you want people to talk about?

Guardians signed RHP Paul Sewald to a one-year, $7 million contract with a $10 million mutual option for 2026.

It will be interesting to see if Sewald can return to previous form, or if his smoke and mirror show has come to an end.

FanSided’s Robert Murray reports the Cubs and Jon Berti are in agreement on a one-year contract.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand adds that the deal is for $2 million and includes $1.3 million in performance based incentives.

That seems like a solid deal for a utility infielder.

Guardians designated RHP Pedro Avila for assignment.
Avila gets the boot from Cleveland’s 40-man roster to free up a spot for veteran high-leverage relief arm Paul Sewald. The 28-year-old righty was a revelation last year for the Guardians, posting a strong 3.25 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 73/30 K/BB ratio across 74 2/3 innings (50 appearances). He’s a virtual lock to be claimed off waivers in the coming days.

That's a pretty crazy move by the Guardians.  They must know last year was a mirage.  Dude was pitching for them in the playoffs last year.

Stuff+ doesn't love Avila but he would be a good long-man for anybody.

Has five distinct pitches including two different fastballs.

I think I would prefer him on the roster over someone like Nance or Pop, since he could cover innings or even be a 3 inning opener. Some pseudo SP depth like Richards provided.

He could also perhaps be better by just being even more of a junkballer. His CH and SL have okay Stuff+ grades, it's the fastballs that are the real issue.

$7M isn’t much but it doesn’t seem like the best use of resources for Cleveland on a decent not great reliever when they crank those guys out like it’s nothing. You’d think they would be putting the savings from Gimenez and Straw into a little more firepower than this.

Does Yariel have late inning potential? If so, we could move him up the ladder by acquiring a guy like Avila

It would not be his ideal role since he has enough pitches to be a SP

Avila is basically a poor man's Y Rod

Fan rejects Pirates' offer for rare Skenes card

https://thescore.com/mlb/news/319951

The 11 year old who pulled that Skenes 1 of 1 card is rejecting Pirates offer and putting it up for sale.  Season tickets for life don't mean anything when you live in Cali...

I'm hoping I could make it down to a Pirates game this summer. Really want to see Skenes pitch in person. Heard Pittsburgh is a pretty cool city as well.
