I'd probably say this is the most aligned I've seen the board in terms of what this team needs to do in order to be relevant next season. Most of us also agree that if we can't achieve most of what's required then this team needs to trade Vlad/Bo to begin the rebuild ASAP.

So what exactly does the team need to do to avoid a rebuild in your eyes? I understand the list might sound unreasonable but that's usually the case for a team coming off 74 wins.

Personally, the team would need to:

- Trade for Helsley/Matz

- Sign Teo

- Sign Bregman

- Re-sign Vlad

- Trade Bo for the best package of MLB ready players

- Sign the best cheapest backup catcher possible

To me the above just seems very unrealistic but those would be the terms where I could get behind the team next season. If you can't come close to it then please start the rebuild so our next contention window won't take forever to get to.

I'm fine with most of what you've said, except Bregman, I don't want him. Sign Burnes or forget the whole thing in my mind. We need a front line arm at the front of the rotation.

All these things are very unlikely to happen together, but at least there would be hope for next year if we really must.

I think our team needs big bats and a true closer more than a number 1 starter. I also don't trust Bregman on any deal more than 5 years but that's the price you pay for plugging holes through free agency.

Sign and/or trade for two big bats, a backend starter, a backup catcher, and another decent reliever or two. Obviously I'd prefer more, but that would make it successful imo.

I concur. The two BIG bats in addition to what is currently on the roster is a must!!! It can't be trade Bo for specs and sign a big bat. It needs to be Vlad, Bo, Springer performing at expectations, plus 2 big bats!

Agreed

But I've nearly given up hope of that happening

I wanted a higher end backup catcher but now I'm pretty sure that ship is sailed. Heinemann and Sanchez are both passable enough defensive backups to actually give us decent depth as the 2/3 guys. As long as Kirk is up to taking on a bigger workload, there won't be enough innings to lose too much value at the backup catcher spot. Better to spend on the more pressing needs at this point.

The disappointment and anger is going to be unbearable here shortly. Full on Facebook rage as there's almost no chance all the video games moves you guys want are going to happen. Some people may just want to take a year off until they blow this thing up.

The Jays have needed two big bats for two seasons now, coming into the third. Nothing video game when you consider the Jays had at least two opportunities for Teo the last three years and to date have decided not to go that route.

Maybe not good value, but a needed reality in totality. The Jay’s FO created this situation on their own and we have every right to critize them without saying it is hyperbole.

I think most people at this point expect to be disappointed, the surprise would be if we weren't. Maybe casuals will flip out, I don't know, but people here understand the reality is likely to be disappointing.

But I think the time to decide on a concrete path is before the season.

No concerns with being disappointed in results and/or FO over the past 4-5 years. But expecting them to pull a magical rabbit out of their hat in the current situation is unrealistic and unreasonable. You may also be horrified at the cost and long term impacts required to pull that all off.

Incoming insult in 3, 2, 1...

Successful offseason would be trading everybody and accumulating prospects at this point

The Jays have showed no signs of rebuilding and that story started last year at the deadline when they only moved pending FA's, and now with the players they've been linked to this offseason while acquiring Yimi and Gimenez, it ain't happening. If they only have 23M as BNS and Zwelling suggest, it's going to be a long painful year. Hopefully this isn't true.

Unfortunately, I suspect it's going to be.

A huge part of this regimes failures are due to the fact they pretty much staited that they would need to have cost controlled talent making progress at this point. The last 5 drafts ha had minimal impact on the mlb roster.

Rogers have spent a lot of money, man.

Rogers unfortunately has no vision when it comes to the ball club and its overall construction. They just like their corporate types that spew political vocabulary. Caring only about the bottom line is their downfall. They're not baseball club owners anymore after Ted's passing.

I don't there many people more upset than myself on what has happened to the ball club during this current regime. I'm as diehard as they come, watching 99% of the games no matter what. It's ****ing frustrating watching something that is so engrained in your life being run by these ****ing cucks, which I knew that's all they were 3-4 years ago. I know you know how long I've been complaining about Shatkins to the point where I was making myself and everybody else sick and tired of hearing about it. I seriously thought after last season that it spelled the end of at least Ross, but it sadly appears that Shatkins comes in a package. The renovations bought Shapiro more time, as I have to say he did a good job overseeing. Shapiro has decent presidential skills but building a quality ball club not so much. If he could just hire a GM that first and foremost is respected around the league and allow him to be autonomous, would be the best thing for everyone involved. Unfortunately, Shapiro is a stubborn **** who has to be involved in roster construction. He'll never come to accepting that he's not very good at it, as his resume would suggest. He had his chance this off season, but he decided to stick with Ross. Inexcusable and they both need to go, otherwise this club will be a hard watch.

He had his chance last offseason, nevermind this season.

Sign Vlad long term convincing him agree for deferral money. Get Helsley and Arenado, Burnes and Santander or Teoscar. If we sign Vlad, Burnes, Teoscar or Santander, chances increasing that Arenado agree for a trade to Toronto. And if he agree, should sign Alonso with deferral money too, so he can play DH.

Arenado rejected Houston. Why would he go to Toronto?
